    Wait, why were the Mariners only allowed to challenge one out when Clint Hurdle was allowed to challenge two different outs on a potential DP against the Cubs earlier this season? Doesn't look like that was true. The ump pointed to both bases and called them out after the review. And the guy at 3B wasn't removed from base before the review, which would have made sense if they could only challenge 1 and chose to challenge at 2B.

    Eickoff is pretty run of the mill. He has shutout 2 teams for 7 innings each, but they happen to be the worst 2 offenses in the NL (Padres, Braves). In 6 of his 9 starts, he has given up at least 3 runs in 6 innings. He gets a lot of balls put in play against him, and has been a little lucky with BABIP against, especially for a guy who doesn't particularly get a lot of ground balls. He doesn't walk many, but he'll succumb to the dong at times. With the Cubs looking like they're heating up and hitting for more power, and with the wind blowing out, I'd expect a decent offensive showing. If Hendricks pitches like he has most of this year and most of his career at Wrigley, the Cubs should win this game.

    wrong shaq I could swear it said Shaq Lawson when I read it. My bad. What's the odds that 2 professional football players would be involved in the same accident in different cars, without knowing each other?

    Not really a "heckle", but I was heard once before by a player. In spring training, I think it was Angel Echevarria, hit a towering HR. So when he comes out to play LF defensively in the next inning, I yell "hey, that was 800 feet" and he turns around and gives me a smile and a thumbs up. I guess the funniest heckle I've heard was this guy at the Pirates game in the LF corner heckling Soriano when he was with the Cubs. He kept prefacing everything he said with "I'm just throwing it out there....." Stuff like, "I'm just throwing it out there.....your mother is a whore". At one point, Soriano was laughing a little. Game was also a laugher in the Cubs favor, IIRC.

    I'm guessing once Heyward is back, the Cubs will send down Fedorowicz and bring up another bullpen arm. My guess is Edwards. Federowicz was probably going to go down when Szczur came back, but the fact that Szczur probably came back a few days early and replaced an OF that can't play right now saved Tim's job for now.

    Eh. I know he's not electric, but throwing strikes always plays in the ML. Mainly throwing strikes where you want them to. I figured he'd be more mediocre, but I figured he'd be able to hang around the majors for a while.

    Didn't he ask for a trade last year? That's why I thought it was odd. Yeah, I meant more of a perceived bad fit. He's a 4-3 DE by trade, has stated he prefers that scheme, and has been involved in trade/cut rumors the last 12 months. I personally think he's a fine fit. He's a pass rusher. You can do that in any defense.

    There might not be as many, but there have to be some. The season is just too long for there not to be periods of slump and sadness. I think I naively hoped that a lineup with at least 7 good hitters in it every day would at least have 2-3 guys not all playing terrible at the same time at any point. I mean, it's probably actually the case now, but I figured they'd be a hard team to shutdown.

    The thing I thought the moves would do is make it so there wouldn't be very many dead offensive slumps like this.

    It's a surprise because Young will be 31 in Week 2 and a 2 year extension takes him thru his age 33 season, for a team that has gotten rid of almost everyone that has either been 30+ or an odd fit....Young is both.

    Not surprising they are. They see a ton of pitches just like the Cubs. It will be interesting because Lackey mostly throws strikes. Or tries to, at least. That's what makes Lackey so good, he tries to throw strikes unlike every other pitcher in the history of baseball.

    He was flagged for a shoulder issue at the combine. Had to go back for a medical re-check based on the concerns of 1 team (Jags, IIRC). He was cleared on the re-check. Obviously, there was an existing issue there with the shoulder because that would have to be one hell of a swim move to tear up his shoulder.
