  1. I think this is why he'll get another shot to pick a QB if this Trubisky thing doesn't work out. Many tied his fate to Trubisky when he was drafted 3 years ago, but the rest of his moves have been pretty phenomenal. And while QB is the most important position to get right, you also have to remember he made the pick with John Fox as HC, maybe even without Fox knowing about it happening. I think he'll get another chance to work with Nagy in picking the next QB, if necessary. I could be mis-remembering, but around the time Nagy was hired wasn't there a narrative that he had been just as enamored with Trubisky as the bears were before the draft? I even remember shots of him with a looney toons-esque face staring at Mitch like a t-bone at the combine or a pro day workout when he was with KC You remember correctly. But regardless, he would have said that about any QB, and he was on the team that ended up trading up for Mahomes (and picked him ahead of Watson).

  3. Rewatched some plays from the game, and boy is Kyle Long a shadow of his former self. He apparently aggravated his hip and is questionable for Sunday, but I don't think he should ever play again. He is really bad. Granted, nobody on the line has been all that good, but Long just has 0 ability left in his oft-injured body. I don't want anyone to get hurt, but he probably should be IR'd and bring up Alex Bars.
  4. Blasphemy, I know, but I kinda wanted the Packers to win last night. The Packers are obviously the biggest obstacle in the division, but I feel the Eagles are the most talented team in the NFC. If they had gone to 1-3, their season would have been on life support. They still have a 3-game road trip at MIN, DAL, and BUF followed by 3 home games vs. the Bears, Patriots and Seahawks (w/ a bye mixed in). The Eagles are going to get healthy and just like last year, be a force down the stretch where they have an easy last 5-6 weeks. GB win would have potentially meant 1 less team the Bears had to worry about in the NFC wildcard race if they don't win the division.
  5. IDK if my faith in a Bears win this game has more to do with the Bears or the fact that Cousins sucks against teams with a winning record through a rather sizeable sample size.
  6. Two-point conversion is from the 2. PAT from like the 15 or something like that. So, when they got the offsides they decided to go for 2 from half the distance to the goalline (AKA the 1), instead of the PAT from the 10. Not that it would make a huge difference, but seems like it should be at the 2 and not the 1. 2 or 15. - 5 penalty. 7 or 20. + 5 yard penalty 2 or 15. Ah ok. I didn't realize the Broncos got a penalty on the PAT first. My stream died on 4th and 2, and came back when the Broncos had the lead.

So, when they got the offsides they decided to go for 2 from half the distance to the goalline (AKA the 1), instead of the PAT from the 10. It still doesn’t make sense to me. The 2 point conversion attempt would have been from the 7 after the Broncos penalty or 20 if they go for one. The Bears commit a 5 yard penalty, so that would mean either a 2 point try from the 2 again, or if it’s half the distance to the goal since the penalty occurred inside the 10 yard line than it would be a try from 3.5 yards out. Not sure why regular football rules wouldn’t apply here even if it’s a special play Where are you getting 7?

  19. I was done talking about this game, but damn was the OL bad last week. Trubisky was hit 11 times on Thursday, more than any other QB in Week 1 (does not include times he ran). Trubisky had the 7th fastest time from snap to throw of 2.51 seconds. Granted he passed 53 times, but this is atrocious OL play. Maybe this is the group that needed preseason.
  20. It wasn't about just running it more. Many of the pass plays that were called were of basically the same concept. Look 10 yards down the field. If that pass isn't available, force it anyway or dump it. There was no attempt to spread the field in the entire first half. The safeties were leaning forward on every play call because every play that was called was in front of them. You brag about having all of this amazing speed (Cohen, Gabriel, Patterson) and you do absolutely nothing with it. Maybe the coach knows more about Trubisky than we do, and that spreading the field is just not an option with this QB. If that's the case, it's going to be a long season. If that's the case.......you need to run more.
  21. Nagy definitely was the worst, considering it was his idea NOT to play the starters at all. And he had 8 months and 2 games of film vs. the GB defense (albeit different players) against his offense to look at for the last 8 months and comes out and leads a team that puts up 3 points. The OL didn't look cohesive or prepared enough. The QB obviously didn't. I re-tweeted someone's tweet last night that said Nagy called 30 straight drop backs last night to end the game. Three handoffs after halftime. Montgomery for no gain, first play of the half. Next drive, Davis had an 8 yard run on the first play, 1 yard on the 2nd. Then tried to throw on 3rd and less than a full yard, and never called another run play the rest of the game, down by no more than 1 score and never threatened with time until the final drive with under a minute left.
  22. Plus a 96 passer rating in the favorable sample side split is pretty average in today's NFL. Half of those games are in John Fox's offense as a rookie though. Not really trying to make an excuse for Mitch, but I would take those non-primetime numbers over a full season in a heartbeat. "Pretty average" is better than bottom 1/4 QB.
  23. Yeah, it's a pretty interesting decision if Mitch is bad, but the rest of the team is good....as it's basically all Pace's doing. I honestly think both Pace and Nagy stay and they work together to pick another QB. Because remember, this was just a Pace move under John Fox, who was rumored to not even know they were picking him. That being said, it's going to be pretty hard to be 9-7 a few times with bad QB play. Defense will regress a little and will suffer injuries and cap casualties. And I think we're all in on Mitch for at least the next 3 years. Obviously this year, but still on rookie deal next year. They are going to pick up the 5th year option, unless they luck into another QB (like a vet being traded/cut) and trade Mitch....5th year options of QBs who aren't complete disasters always get picked up. I mean, Bortles had his option picked up. Winston and Mariota did. Guys like Dalton and Tannehill got extensions in lieu of the 5th year. I was hoping Mitch was more Goff than Bortles, but Bortles did have 1 pretty good year and in another led his team to a 4th quarter lead in the conference championship. Mitch has the talent around him to have both of these things happen. But as of right now, I no longer feel that he can be a guy they give a 2nd contract to.
  24. I was watching Miller a bit, after I realized he didn't have a touch or target midway thru the game. He wasn't healthy at all. He wasn't running at normal speed. He didn't have his typical agility. Probably shouldn't have been out there.
