  1. Can take Rutgers off that list. They have re-hired Greg Schiano. IU's Tom Allen (along with Stoops from UK) have been the hot rumored coaches for a couple of those vacant spots. Rumors are in the very early stages, but it's worth nothing that Allen is the lowest paid Power 5 coach in the country. He is in line for a huge raise at IU after the first 8 win season in over 25 years. Florida State is a very attractive job, and Missouri would allow a coach like Allen to stay in the midwest while upgrading to the SEC. But hopefully, Allen being from Indiana and not being super young means he takes a large pay increase and stays in Bloomington.
  2. The debate over Mitch' performance aside there's one undeniable outcome of today's game - Roquan Smith has awaken and is starting to play like the beast we all know he can be. Actually, his awakening may have begun with the game vs. the Rams. When he got hurt, I wanted the Bears to re-sign Trevathan. Mainly because Smith hadn't really taken that next step to show he can lead the defense, call the D, etc. Plus Trev can still play. But now, with Smith taking the next step and Kwit putting together multiple solid games, I'm all for the younger & cheaper LB pairing. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  3. We have a 37 game sample size. Of course the bar is low. Still it's hard to imagine a world where 76% completion with 2 drops, 336 yards, 3 TDs and a 119 QB rating doesn't meet whatever bar you could set. He passed the statistical and eye test other than 2 plays. Not sure if you're looking at your Thanksgiving leftovers, but that's a big ass table if he left a lot on it. He's still not good overall. But he was more than good today. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  4. Cornelius Lucas has started 2 games and been the best pass blocker in each game. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  5. Solid? I don't know how you can reasonably expect him to play better. Sure he could've ran for the first at the end of the half and the INT (against a top 5 CB) sucked, but take away those 2 plays and that game was essentially perfection. 76% complete with 2 drops. Made deep throws to both sides of the field and all the intermediate throws in the middle. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk What does solid mean for you? I meant it as a compliment. He was good. I do wonder though if his shoulder is still bothering him. Don’t know why else he would be running backwards to avoid contact like he did a couple times today. Guessing on the play before the half, he didn't realize how close he was to the 1st. The other times, it wasn't worth the extra yard or 2 to take a hit. Feels like he's been told to protect himself to some extent this year. He's a non factor running the ball after it being the best part of his game pre injury last year. 6. They might lose out, but I’ll be an optimistic and say they go 1-3. I’ll give a little credit. Mitch made some great throws down the stretch. He was solid. Not a surprise that his 2 best games this year (in terms of Y/A and QBR) are against the Lions D but whatever. Solid? I don't know how you can reasonably expect him to play better. Sure he could've ran for the first at the end of the half and the INT (against a top 5 CB) sucked, but take away those 2 plays and that game was essentially perfection. 76% complete with 2 drops. 7. It was the right call on Floyd. Dumb penalty. Obviously doesn't mean the hit to the head wasn't missed, but Floyd's is just a clear and dumb mental mistake. Technically he's allowed 2 steps after the ball is thrown. He took one. But he didn't need to push the QB. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  8. David Blough likely starting for the Lions tomorrow. Bears will be without Gabriel, Braunecker, Massie, McManis, Trevathan, and Shaheen. As far as I'm concerned, the first 4 can stay out as it likely means playing time for rookies Ridley, Horstead, Shelley, and Bars. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  9. Even the RZ INT didn't bother me that much. Like, yea it sucks, but at this point, if Mitch is being aggressive and is throwing the ball past 10 yards past the LOS or more, I'm okay with some inevitable INT. Maybe I'm giving him an unfairly low bar to cleae, but that's it for me at this juncture. It's a low bar but that's the standard he could conceivably meet at this point. I hate the drops though. I'd like to see how he'd look without those. Yeah, that's what it is. Basically, if he's not taking unnecessary sacks and missing open guys running beyond 5 yards you have to take what he gives you. Kinda always has been his thing. He doesn't throw many INTs, and Lord knows it's not because of supreme accuracy.
  10. Yeah, even though he had a rating in the 60's. I thought he looked as good as good as he has at any point in his career on Sunday. The INTs were whatever. Redzone INT can't happen, but it took a great play by the LB. The deep ball INTs never bother me. Sucked that there was a 50-yard return of it, but if you're going to throw picks, best time to do it is on a deep shot. I've seen criticism of the TD pass to Robinson for being short, but that was a layup pass (that he has missed before) and who cares that it was ugly, he scored.
  11. Yes, the one with 2 1/2 completely mediocre seasons and one championship season I mean, there's like 3 active coaches who have won a championship this century, not named Belichick. 1 championship season is an accomplishment in the Patriots dynasty era.
  12. I am really concerned with Nagy's offense at this point. i know Mitch has been bad more times than not, but the games he's been decent (AKA not a disaster), the Bears have only put up 16 vs. LAC, 20 vs. DET, and 19 today vs. NYG. Throw in the 16 scored vs. Minnesota when Daniel was decent, and Nagy's offense just isn't putting up enough points. I know they had more help from the defense last year, but the offense seemed to make the most of opportunities last year, scoring wise.
  13. I'm not sure what your conclusion is, keep Mitch or ditch mitch? I think unless you are in love with a QB that drops to you in the second round this draft, you have to use those picks to revamp the o-line.Even if Mitch continues to tank you at least have the building blocks to surround the QB who takes over after Mitch leaves, HC and GM be damned. Reaching for a QB in this draft would be a huge mistake. I think you have to ditch Mitch. While I don't think he would be as bad next year as he's been this year, he's definitely not the answer. Best case is a 2018 repeat where he figures out how to use his legs again. But I think he's lost the support of his teammates. They obviously won't say anything publicly, but you can see the body language on the field. Lackluster effort for high throws, stopping on routes when he misses them flash open, nobody moving down the field when he scrambles out of a pocket that he could have stood in. Nagy clearly can't do what he wants with the offense, and he's getting flack from the press and fans about his offense and playcalling. I just don't see Nagy being very willing to go into 2020 with his future tied to a QB that he has to dumb down his playbook for. Because after all, if Trubisky is here again and the offense struggles again with a half-filled play sheet....the offensive minded head coach is going to certainly take a lot of the heat for not having a good offense and not developing a talented QB. I don't think Pace can go to ownership after 2 bad years and say, "Hey, I built up the rest of the team, let me get 1 more shot at QB" when the QB he picked is the reason for 2 bad years. And i don't think Nagy has been good enough to survive a GM change.
  14. The 2018 Bears had too much talent to tank. The 2020 Bears? Eh. I generally don't believe in intentional tanking. If you're bad enough to need it, it takes care of itself. The Bears have a pretty good chance of taking care of it themselves. Even with the most abysmal offense in the league, the Bears are 4-6 with back-to-back games coming up against inferior teams. The 2020 Bears won't be much worse than the 2019 Bears talent-wise, and almost certainly would be better at QB by either Mitch improving or simply having more or better viable options.
  15. The Bears were a real contender last year. True, but they didn't really contend...by winning a playoff game.
  16. The Bears have too much talent to tank. They've gone over 300 yards 1 time in 10 games and have had a chance in the final 3 minutes in all but the Saints game. The problem with competition for Trubisky is that "competition" isn't good enough. You need a guy better than Trubisky, and probably clearly. Otherwise the alternative is Trubisky either winning the job or that guy getting hurt and Trubisky inheriting the job. Even if he plays like last year, we saw that wasn't good enough to be a real contender, and it's even less effective now as the defense isn't as dominant as it was back then. And I don't think Pace and Nagy want to deal with even the possibility of having this season happen again.
  17. Gonna be an interesting offseason. Obviously the 2018 coach of the year and one of the top executives of the year aren't going anywhere.....so the hot take artists on Twitter can stop with that. But I do think they will feel a TON of pressure this offseason. Not necessarily from the fans, or ownership putting them on the proverbial hot seat, but I think they will feel pressure of the window closing. I think the plan right now is to let Pace & Nagy pick a QB together, but if they have another dismal season....I don't know that either would feel very safe going into 2021. It sucks, because Mitch seems like a good kid. He's talented, likable and humble; but I feel like they have to move on from him. While his contract is guaranteed, I think they could potentially trade him or just straight up cut him. Because to have Mitch on the roster, means to be OK with him if he has to play. To be OK with him playing, means you probably don't have a clearly better option. To not have a clearly better option, means you potentially could have another dismal season. I HATE the thought of trading a high pick for a QB and paying said QB, over 20Mil. Foles? Owed big money, would likely require one of those 2nds to the Jags. Not interested. Newton? Owed 21Mil. Wouldn't necessarily cost a 2nd, but who knows if his body can even hold up. Not interested. Alex Smith? Maybe he's cut which would make him more desirable, but again can his body hold up? Not interested. Free agency you have guys that have been benched now or should be like Dalton, Winston, Eli, Keenum? Are any of them guaranteed to be better than Trubisky was in 2018? Don't know if it's worth the money to find out. Brady, Brees, Rivers, and Dak aren't going anywhere. The best options i see are that maybe Mariota takes a 1-year deal to play for Helfrich (if he's still around after this year) and potentially earn a big payday. Teddy Bridgewater is a good long-term option. He's looked good in limited action since his injury, and was a pretty highly regarded prospect before that. Both of these options would potentiallly mean weakening the all around roster that Pace has been building for 4 years, as they'd require a decent amount of money along with likely paying at least some of Trubisky's salary.. They'd stand to lose a lot of talent and don't have the draft picks necessary to replace them right away.

  20. Bad QB play = 31st ranked offense Decent QB play and only have 7 points Trubisky was statistically great last week and they only put up 20. Maybe a lot of this is on the playcalling Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
