  1. He won't be a starter for them. He's not the missing point guard or wing that they need. But I think he'll be a great rotation piece as long as he's here.
  2. Abrams, Campusano & Hassell Gore might be broken. Hassell is the only guy I’m really that interested in, in the rumored Hosmer deal. Abrams, Campusano and Gore all have some warts for the risk of taking on Hosmer/giving up KB/Kimbrel or whatever as well. Abrams has plenty of time to get stronger. I prefer Hassell, too, but I'd want both in any really major deal. All the Mets guys we've been talking about are whiffing 28%+. There are very few perfect prospects out there.
  3. Site crashed for the first 30-45 minutes when there would have been most of the comments. But yeah. Was it due to traffic? Emotional shock.

  6. Wisdom at 3B, Rivas at 1B.
  7. Rizzo's, "It's magic!", is still one of my favorite moments in baseball.
  8. Ross is very tight with Rizzo & Bryant. He could have left it up to them. We just don't know.
  9. Well horsefeathers. I like the return. Hate that we're at this point. One extra thought on this....I'm glad the Cubs are willing to pick up all the remaining salary to maximize the return. That makes the potential Bryant & Kimbrel returns much more promising. Hell, they should pick up some of the option money for Kimbrel to bring back better prospects, too
  10. If the only change that you make the past is Addison Russell: 1) not being a reprobate horsefeathers and 2) reaching close to his assumed ceiling of Barry Larkin...I'd bet the Cubs make it to at least 1-2 more World Series and we feel completely different about the past five years.
  11. Meh - a lefty with the arm strength to sit mid-90's and ability to spin the ball well enough to get 21" of vertical on the fastball is interesting. Get him in the pitch lab and work on his slider/curve and changeup. Keep in mind that Tepera cratered in performance, velocity and spin rate after the crack down on sticky stuff.
  12. now this is a great signing. theres our new hjalmarsson. Are we counting on injuries or should we go ahead and trade Mitchell, Beaudin, Kalynuk, etc.? Because I don't see any openings on the blue line for those guys.
  13. I can't speak for others, but for me this has not distracted from the sexual assault story at all. Neither did trading for Jones, Fleury or anything else. I possess the relatively common ability to focus on more than one thing at a time. I am not speaking about the individual's ability to hold two thoughts. I am speaking about the PR strategy of delay and deflect. They went a month with nothing but sexual assault stories and with all this sound and fury it's abound to take more of a back seat. Are they happy to have other things to talk about? Of course. You bet your ass they are. Is there also a built-in reason for the timing of all this? Yes - the NHL schedule of events is driving when these transactions are taking place as much as (or even much more than) anything else.

  15. Well, they got a second round pick out of someone else's albatross.
  16. K-Boom! (sorry, just wanted to be sure to get that in one last time)
  17. How long is Johnson's contract? 3 more years, same as Seabrook. So unless he preretires as well they’ve just given away usable net cap space to a little old guy. Yeah, but the LTIR stuff is only semi-usable. Getting rid of Seabrook's semi-dead space on the cap for a second rounder and Johnson is much better than the deal to get rid of Hossa's. You just hope that Johnson has a decent enough season you can flip him next year when the real cap crunch for the Hawks is looming.
  18. but they got actual cap space for it. isn't that better? the ltir stuff is very confusing to me. the problem would be that it had to be used on tyler johnson and a not-great contract. His cap hit is ~1.8m less than Seabrooks but his is actually real while Seabrooks doesn’t count. They made their cap situation worse. How long is Johnson's contract?
  19. There was nothing wrong with going there. At all. He was out by 15 feet. After a perfect play by Votto, he was out by a lot less than 15 feet. Votto was bent over a tarp with his back towards home plate when making the catch. There were two out, which is when you take that gamble. Make that send every time.

  21. I'm guessing the listed weight is...inaccurate.
  22. lol - that's awesome
  23. Okay - now I'm a big fan of the trade. High floor, upper level guy + High ceiling, big arm guy. Very nice return for a non-closer that any team could have signed for a couple mil back in January.
  24. That was a perfect ending
  25. Right thing to do to use your closer in this situation. Wrong thing to do when we're trying to trade Kimbrel.
