After qualifying Zadorov, the Hawks have pairings of: DeHaan - Jones the elder Zadorov - Murphy Jones the younger - Stillman Which leaves no room for Beaudin, Mitchell, Kalynuk, etc. I just don't understand what this organization is doing. I just don’t get the nuances of NHL roster management but this off-season feels like a late 90s MLB front office working in a 2010s MLB frontier. I was really expecting the Hawks to work to consolidate the talent through trades this offseason. So sending something like Beaudin + Mitchell + Suter to CBJ for Jones instead of Boqvist & two first round picks. They've got too many okay-to-good players and not enough good-to-great players to get over the hump. To solve that, you can take the patient approach and see what those younger players mature into (but you have to clear the roster to give them space to play and live with the losses). Or you can do some 2-for-1 and 3-for-1 trades to consolidate the talent to expedite things (but have a shorter window). I feel like Stan is trying to do half of each.
