  1. Why anyone would want Corey back in a Cub's unifrom next year is beyond me? He was the worst player on the Cubs this year hands down. Not even Macias or Neifi were as bad. Cheap. Defense. Potential. Look, if we were able to land both Abreu AND Giles. I could play center and we'd win 95 games. Patterson would be pretty cheap, he is still a defensive stud, and he does have a pretty nice upside. Even if he falls flat on his face again, we have Abreu and Giles. Also, for those interested, this is abreu's remaining salary: 06:$13M, 07:$15M, 08:$16M club option ($2M buyout) Corey cheap? Even if he's @ league minimum, he's too expensive! Do you think Cantu had a good season for Tampa this year? Because that's just about exactly the numbers Corey was slated to put up in 2003 when he got hurt. They're not as good as the numbers Corey was putting up in 2004 at the end of August. I really don't know what happened to Corey this year. But I'm not completely ready to give up on him as a ballplayer. Unless a real upgrade such as Wilkerson can be found, I'm good with giving Corey one more shot in CF, with Hairston backing him up and Pie getting ready in AAA. But if Corey's in CF, the Cubs have to have a plan for production on both corners and in the MIF positions.
  2. I'd want Abreu and Giles, thanks. :D

Damn. And now the lead is back up to 14.2. And I'm pretty much out of at bats. I concede. Congrats to Adam!

I think it might come down to Wagner / Izzy and their respective chances for a save. Wagner's on. Here we go.

N/M. You scored 4 while my RK was frozen. :(

I can't get RK to update anymore. It hasn't even shown Barrett's RBI single yet. :(

    WOOT!! I love Barrett. Within 4.2. :D

I'm within 6.2, but I'm running low on at bats.

Chipper + Barmes + Bonderman for Tejada + Zimmerman. :D

Chipper!!!! And yes, I was very disappointed you nabbed him before me.

If I were you, I'd be worried about the Berkman/Maddux matchup.

This is horrible. Every at bat that goes by with my guys making outs (five straight now), I'm cringing a little bit more. I need to have a huge offensive day and each and every out hurts.

yeah, I dodged a bullet with Carlos there. You're up by 15.7 still.

Go Clint!!!! GHS: 466.55 NSB: 449.85
  17. Tim, Won't the problem with dealing for Abreu be the same as dealing for Manny Ramirez? Wouldn't Philly want more ML talent than that? Also, if you deal Williams and Murton, aren't you straining you budget ahead of when Zambrano and Prior enter arbitration? I'm counting on Cedeno backing up both MI positions in 2006, then taking over SS for Nomar in 2007. Pie takes over for Corey in CF in 2007, as well. The money saved there goes to the raises for Prior/Z. Not to mention the salary relief in that year from Wood + Maddux. I'm counting on at least one of those positions being filled from the farm. $100M is a lot of money to be throwing around. We can afford several top line players for that figure if we can mix in players from the farm at the same time.
  18. If Abreu really is available, wow. Trade Murton + Williams + whatever minor leaguer other than Pie for him and still sign Giles. Giles goes to LF, Abreu in RF. Leave Corey + Hairston platooning in CF and retain Nomar + Walker. That gives: Walker Nomar Giles Lee Abreu Ramirez Corey/Hairston Barrett Wow. Just wow. Best offense in baseball even if Corey doesn't recover. And if he does, then you're even better off. But you wouldn't need his offense at that point. Tell him to focus on the glove and anything he provides at the plate is a bonus. Maybe taking the pressure off like that would do the trick for him.
  19. ??? I don't know what you're talking about. Was it one of the ads from google?

Well, when he was up 39, I was trying to say that he was up overall by 21...maybe it didn't come out right.
  21. Let's count the errors. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Yep, still dumb. 1) Brewers should be capitalized. 2) It is improper usage to end the sentence with "do better". 3) Very poor form to have a compound sentence that mixes verb tenses. 4) Is he giving one "example" or two? 5) Mixing punctuated and non-punctuated items in a list is poor form.
  22. I predict the Cubs have to guarantee the 4th year to get him off the west coast. I'd do it. Without any hesitation whatsoever.
  23. I may have mentioned this once or twice, but I'd like Brian Giles for RF, please. :D

Huston nearly blew the save earlier today, too. I end the championship campaign with a 3-14 percentage of quality starts, I believe I racked up 11 losses in those starts, too. I could really use some at bats for Barry. :( BTW - I'm really looking forward to seeing what Wright will do in his age 23 season. :D blalock for wright? :D i'm up by enough that i think if i could just get a couple homers, i'd have it. but that isn't happening. this power drought i'm going through right now is crazy. i'd just take a homer from teix and one from kent tonight...then i can feel good about things going into tomorrow. thank goodness they took johnson out...i needed that QS. I was really hoping they'd leave him in for one more, myself. :D At least he should get the "L", which reduces that point advantage. I'd really like to see the ATL game come off rain delay so Chipper could get a few more AB's. I probably should have subbed in Damon for Bonds while I was taking people out of the lineup who are "done for the year".
