    I've made this argument several times. I very much feel that baseball should go to 32 teams. And either ditch interleague play or get rid of the DH, either one.

    How so, you willing to say that Oswalt's performance had nothing to do with his ability to pitch rather the Cards' inability to hit? Failure to score runs is a credit to the pitcher. Cubs must have faced an awful lot of good pitchers this year.

    If you don't want to say, I completely understand, but... out of curiosity, how much do you receive from them per sale? Or is it per site view? No, I don't get paid by those guys on a per view basis. At this point it is just when something is purchased through them. I'm not sure how much nilodnayr spent, but I made $0.80 on that commission. I think it's an 10% deal, IIRC.

    At this time of the winter, it is mainly prospects and Dominican veterans who didn't pan out in pro ball here in the states. Later in the season, a lot of MLB regulars will head down there and play for the teams.

    And two years late in deciding not to trade for him in the first place. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd rather he take his time and make the right decision than be hasty and miss opportunities. As long as the right decisions happen, I'm willing to wait. But that 4 year offer to Giles better be in Jim's hands when he's knocking on the door at 12:01am on the first day of the free agency period.

    I'm not criticizing his haste. I'm pointing out that some people are complaining that Hendry is moving too slowly on his offseason decisions, but one of the two quick ones that he has made has now come back to bite him in the arse. So maybe haste really does make waste is all I'm saying.

    There are a lot of players with options that haven't heard anything yet. Teams have until two weeks after the WS to declare.

Didn't he re-sign Rothschild before it came out that Mazzone was available? If he had held his cards tight, he would have been more able to jump on this. But because he did what everyone is clamoring for -- moving fast -- he missed this opportunity. Be careful what you ask for.

    Everything the pitcher does is in response to what the batter will allow. Okay, so I'm actually being argumentative here. My honest thoughts are that each plate appearance is a battle for control of the zone. Whoever can win that battle is likely, though not guaranteed, to have the outcome in his favor.

    BTW - I'm not talking about those who left the country for a time during the season the past couple of years and managed their team remotely or had someone else look in on them while gone.

    About all I have to say about that is if Baker knew how to handle a pitching staff, we'd never be having this conversation, since either Prior would have been pulled sooner in Game 2, thus giving him maybe 15-20 extra picthes in Game 6, or, failing that, Baker would have had Farnsworth up after the Pierre double, or, finally, not had him immediatly throw 4 high and outside to the first guy he faced, or decided to go with the Alfonseca v Harris matchup in Game 1, or... I guess I could go on, but I'll get even more angry. My point is, Kyle was the least of the problems in the NLCS. Yeah, but, well, he's still a choker of mad dogs or something like that.

    If the batter isn't in control of the at bat, he isn't that good. The pitcher loses control the moment the ball is released. The hitter is the one that determines what happens next. All a pitcher can do is try to keep the hitter off balance, put the ball in a tough place to hit and hope.

    I honestly see him as a Cardinal next year. I think Jocketty has accepted the benefits of statistical analysis in a way that we could only dream of as Cubs fans.

    Well, I think if you're going to make a move, now is the time so the new manager will be able to choose keepers & such. Or is the question about when teams are getting abandoned? It has happened in each of the two regular seasons that I've been a part of the league. Moreso in 2004, but somewhat this year, too.

    If that's all we do, we won't have Giles in RF for 2006. That will need to be a player option to even come close to getting it done. How about 3/39 with a vesting option based on plate appearances? what does everyone else think bout that?I have asserted for a long time now that without a guaranteed fourth year we don't get him off the west coast. I agree. It will take a guaranteed four years and at least 12 million a year to get him. Anyone who suggests less hasn't paid attention to what the guys signed for last year. There will be as many teams with money this year as there were last year and fewer quality free agents. The floor fr Giles is 4/48. I'd go 4/52 or 5/60. Vance, he's still Brian Giles, and not Babe Ruth. He'll be 35 this year and you would lock him up at 12 mill per through his 40th b-day? Unless his name is Bonds or Clemens I ain't doing that. I know the wisdom is that it will take 4 guaranteed to het him off the coast, but if its me, I offer 3yrs at 11 mill per, with an option for a fourth that includes a hefty raise. Give him the cash when you know (or have evidence to suggest) that he will be most productive. And when he signs the 4 yr deal with St. Louis this board will erupt like never before.

    This may be a touchy subject, but are we going to go with the same set of managers (with Raisin swapped in for UK, of course) next year? I believe that for the league to be its best, you really need 16 people that are willing and able to commit sufficient time to maintaining their team, making sure the people they have in the lineup are actually active, taking players off the DL when they start playing again, promote people from the minors when they are no longer eligible, respond to trade offers in a timely fashion, etc. When one or more managers fail to do this it gives unfair advantages to teams playing that manger at various parts of the year. I don't want to offend anyone (though I'm aware that I might), but do we have 16 committed people? I don't expect everyone to put in hours every day sweating over the waiver wire. But I also hate watching teams go stagnant in the middle of the year, too.
