  1. I'd love to spend a 2nd round pick on this guy.
  2. That’s Tim ? I don't think so.
  3. Here's one more kick in the balls... We could have traded for Stanton last year if we weren't going to try to sign Bryce. Yankees got him basically for nothing.
  4. I haven't been paying much attention to see how much this has been talked about, but it makes perfect sense: We had a little money left to spend this year (well, we actually had a lot to spend but the Ricketts family decided otherwise), but we have nothing for the future. Bryce was never happening. And nothing good is going to happen in the future. This team is in the process of derailing. Better hope we turn things around with some of the guys already on the roster. I miss optimistic Duke. It's like you joined the DC universe.
  5. As pissy as I feel about this, I took some solace from thinking that Cards fans should be even more pissed than us. - Their team makes almost as much money as the Cubs - They aren't even in the luxury tax - They get extra draft picks anyway, so that doesn't impact them as much - Much of their success is dependent upon pitchers who could all go *poof* at any time - They only have one year of Goldschmidt, so their window is now - Their OF could really, really suck this year
  6. Hey there, CCP - haven't seen you in a while.
  7. I'm not getting them. And as mentioned upthread, it's really hard for me to control the ads that google serves.
  8. I fully admit that my hatred for Alou is irrational. I don't care. Can't stand the guy.
  9. I assumed that he wasn't Boras client, and it looks like he dumped him in 2015. Many Cubs fans think this gives us hope of extending Bryant, but is there any history of Boras arbitration-level guys extending instead of hitting free agency? Yes. Strasburg leaps to mind, but I think there's been one or two other lower profile guys.
  10. All my favorite recent HR are accounted for. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for Bob Dernier leading off the 1984 NLCS with a dong, though. Not to mention Sutcliffe hitting one to lead off the third a couple innings later.
  11. Also, Dylan Maples is fixed!
  12. Good thing they were on the road instead of subjecting Bote to Gryzlo.
  13. Absolutely. However, if you believe Ricketts, it may mean running a loss for 2019.
  14. I made the mistake of verbalizing it instead. Now he's trying to claim we never had that conversation.
  15. I was told that Rodon / Lopez / Giolito / Fulmer were going to destroy AL hitters. No, really. A white sox fan I know said that to me. He was being serious.
  16. Who is saying that? Each P&L has line items to calculate annual finances. We don't know the details of the Cubs finances but we have a team's actual P&L! And we know generally how much horsefeathers/less popular/less spendy they were than the Cubs are now! When we're talking about cashflow and profitability, costs have to be discussed -- seems like the focus here is mostly on revenues. We went through fairly detailed cost discussions earlier in the offseason, too.
  17. I think they're low on the middle infield. Baez + Zobrist + Russell: 2018: 10.3; 2017: 4.2; 2016: 9.6 The pure average of those three years is around 8.0. Usage should be about the same. Hopefully Zobrist won't have a gimpy wrist
  18. Fair enough. Usually when people talk about someone being on the spectrum, they are talking about the autistic spectrum. The two people (prior to you) who referred to him being on the spectrum have specifically mentioned autism. Elaborate, please... Mainly just being flippant with that last one. Didn't really put a lot of thought into it. Pretty much any attribute you care to name is a spectrum as opposed to a yes/no, though. So if I have to name a few, I'll say he's pretty far towards the horsefeathers, sociopath and misogynist ends of those particular completely arbitrary and unofficial spectrums (spectra?).
  19. There are a lot more than one spectrum. Bauer is on a bunch of them.
  20. Awesome...But to compare apples to apples, what is the Padres' commitment beyond 2022? It's a hell of a lot higher than $8M, but that's a purposefully overstated difference.
  21. Oh, and great move by the Padres.
  22. I approve of the headline.
  23. I grow bored. Can't we get some games so I can obsessively over analyze small sample results?
