  1. Personally, that's not true. horsefeathers, it would an insanely refreshing miracle if an abuser was actually upfront about what he did wrong and actually was sorry and wanted to be/do better and what he was actually doing/has done to be better. Not that it would absolve him, but holy horsefeathers, it WOULD make at least a bit of a difference. Dude, however, isn't even gonna sniff that, as per usual with these dudes. Hey now, Northam read a few excerpts from Roots! (Racism as opposed to DV, but you get the point)
  2. Ha - with Europe about to pass their bloody internet law, I was thinking that a forum like this won't be viable if something like that comes to the US.
  3. Man, I'm going to hate banning you.
  4. You live in a dark, dark world.
  5. 1) Last year I predicted that Javy would learn how to hit righties better and become a star. This year, he does a better job laying off pitches outside the zone (he gets to average - still not great) and takes another big step as a result. 2) Bryant is fully healthy and the NL MVP 3) Milwaukee finishes under 85 wins 4) Schwarber has better fortunes with men on base, closes some holes in the swing and makes us realize we had Bryce Harper (lite) all along 5) Almora still sucks 6) Happ still struggles 7) as a result, Heyward becomes basically the full-time CF 8) Addison recovers some performance and provides 3 WAR at SS in a shortened season - and many of us will still hate him being on the team 9) The bullpen is the weakest part of the team and has to be addressed at the deadline and finally... 10) Luke Hagerty makes MLB before the end of the year and becomes a big story
  6. So are they not releasing the dollar figures because they aren't available? Or are they just aware of the bad optics in bragging about a multi-billion dollar deal when they're claiming they can't afford $4M for Chavez?
  7. Another new change in stance for heyward? This one is the wildest yet. Cross-handed (and righty) would be a big change.
  8. I would not want to revisit that thread.
  9. Isn't the rule change basically going back to the way it was done before? I could swear I remember a bunch of two sport athletes getting mlb contracts in the past.
  10. I think it's partially that and partially how impressive he was in the AFL
  11. The Cubs won 95 games last year with way more going wrong than right. I’d ask you to pick a new schtick but I know you don’t have it in you to avoid bad faith arguments. I posted something positive and you start with the negative "schtick". All winter people have posted about the lack of transactions by the Cubs, so I'm assuming that they also thought that some roster positions could be improved even though "The Cubs won 95 games last year with way more going wrong than right." On what planet is what you wrote a positive comment? Are you so jaded that you honestly believe that writing "Yeah, the Cubs are fine as long as everything goes right, but the odds of everything going right over a long season aren't great" is positive? There's only two sentences in your post. Let's look at the second one... "Since they didn't spend the money or make any trades (yet), we have to hope the semi-injured bounce back, the old-timers stay "young" for another year, and everyone stays healthy." Yeah, still no. Please explain how you think either of the above statements is positive.
  12. Yeah, the Cubs are fine as long as everything goes right, but the odds of everything going right over a long season aren't great. Since they didn't spend the money or make any trades (yet), we have to hope the semi-injured bounce back, the old-timers stay "young" for another year, and everyone stays healthy. Well, we're in a decent position to sustain an injury or two. Montgomery did more than fine as a starter last year. The depth guys would be fine as 4/5 starters or injury fill-ins. All five starters are guys who could provide top of the rotation performance, so it's likely at least someone will. There's a fair amount of hoping involved, but they are pitchers. That's true of any pitching staff. Look at Milwaukee and go through the same exercise.
  13. It’s always depressing to see positive tweets like this and then check the profile to see that they have fewer followers than me. If I could maintain my follower to post ratio, I'd be famous.
  14. Players would be far better off asking for something like a 26 man roster instead of "asking" for the dh. They'd be best off asking for more fundamental changes that have been discussed here before (years of control, early salary process, etc.).
  15. I'm pretty excited. Not to the level of the past few years, but this is still a very good team.
  16. We signed Luke Hagerty (again). Absolutely amazing story: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25893836/inside-37-year-old-pitcher-luke-hagerty-improbable-comeback-story
  17. We'll have about right guys in Iowa that could replace kintzler at one tenth the cost.
  18. I think we should solve that dilemma by just getting Bryce.
  19. Awesome...now lets see the projected WAR from returning players.
  20. I didn't want to spoil the surprise that I had hired him for the front page of NSBB. Thanks a lot, man.
  21. All of this is true. It's also true that Bryant has reached that level in every season in which he was "fully" healthy and also was on pace to go well past 6 WAR last year before the injury. It's possible that the injury will limit the finish on his swing going forward and that his results dip as a result. But I'll take bets on the gap between his 2018 and 2019 more than offsetting the dip in Javy's, assuming KB and Javy each play in 145+ games. Any of you doom bonering people want to wager? Just set a simple fWAR over/under for Bryant, you coward. I'm responding pretty exactly to the statements you and David made with this bet. Are you not willing to back up your talk?

Any of you doom bonering people want to wager? i actually have more faith in javy not dipping *that* much than i do in Bryant getting back to 2016-17 levels of production right now I purposefully set myself up to have two ways to win that bet. Unfortunately, there are also two ways to lose.
