  1. Time to root for a school I actually went to You backed PSU through all the Paterno mess, but will abandon them because of bad play? Ugh
  2. It seems that he had more upside than most in this draft. Since it is a weak draft why not take a high upside guy? Correct Hard to criticize any thought out approach in a weak draft, really. If they had gone with Toppin, for example, with the logic of it being a weak draft, why not get a guy almost guaranteed to be a rotation player for a few years - that would have been fine, too.
  3. Yeah, definitely fit with who's on the roster doesn't matter. My angle was more of building a team. If you trade up to #2 for someone, it should be someone you can build a team around. Wiseman's really good, but he's not a guy thats going to create his own shot. You gotta have guys that can create their own shots to build around. Best case, Wiseman's the 2nd coming of Embiid and you still need help on the wing and especially at PG with a guy that can create his own shot (and shots for Wiseman). I mean, second coming of Embiid is awesome! If you think he's closer to that than Ball the second coming of whoever, then theres a good argument for it. Bulls got "lucky" in a pretty poor draft and with Donovan brought it, it doesn't look like they're headed for a tankathon. So they just gotta build a pre-made competitive roster and try and poach the next big FA wing. Without GarPax, I actually buy that they can pull it off. If Porter stays healthy this year and Donovan can coach up Coby playing point, the team could make a really big jump this year. With Otto's money coming off the books, they should be able to get a quality FA on the team next summer (whenever FA actually falls in 21). They've got players to make up a quality supporting cast. They need the star to be the focal point. No matter who they pick, I don't think that star is coming from this draft.
  4. lol - 108 yards passing on 26 attempts. And 16 completions!
  5. I see Lamar Miller is playing...but hasn't gotten a handoff yet. They've been trying to run Patterson for ages now and it just doesn't work. It didn't really work for the Patriots. Or the Vikings before that. He's not a great running back, no matter how hard teams keep trying to make him one.

    That's a hell of a win - congrats!
  7. To some extent it was groupthink amongst the writers. To some extent is was that Yu's worst start was his first one. So for a good part of the "season" his numbers didn't look as good. So he wasn't thought of as one of the front runners until close to the end of the year. Then his second worst start was next to last; the opinion at the time was that those four runs against Minn probably knocked him out of Cy contention. It's all stupid narrative driven stuff for the most part.
  8. White Sox - always the classiest organization in sports.
  9. Jim Brown couldn't gain yards on these runs today.
  10. You call a timeout after the fake punt and then...run up the middle.
  11. I've never had one. What kind of web searches do you do, anyway?
  12. Rough outline based on those projections... Trade Schwarber for ??? 1) Brantley 2/28 2) Wong 2/16 3) Ray 1/6 4) Archer 1/4 5) McGee 1/3 - Adds contact to the lineup - Adds two potential arms for the 3/4 spots in the rotation to compete with Mills & Alzolay - Dodgers unlocked something in McGee this year, seems a bargain if healthy plus the usual odds & ends relievers $35m/yr total minus Schwarber savings puts things around $27m in 2021. If Brantley & Wong can backload, it takes some of the burden off 21 when cash will be tighter. That puts us around $195m, so probably still too much. Non-tendering Martinez, Almora, Ryan & Winkler removes another $6m or so. If they could run with a ~$189m payroll, I'd like the team in this division, which should be pretty weak in 2021. I'd project them at around 88-91 wins or so. I get the feeling I'll want to blow up this plan once we see the non-tenders.
  13. yeah, this line is a problem. We really need to spend more draft capital on the line.
  14. I have to admit to being irrationally excited about Nwogu.
  15. yeah...I wish the team had a whole bunch of disposable cash right now.
  16. I like the idea of McKenzie being a throw in on that Lindor trade, but I'm not sure Cleveland goes for that. And when I say "I'm not sure Cleveland goes for that" I mean "there's no way Cleveland even considers going for that"
  17. He'd be a solid pickup for second base next year
  18. Is that before or after Harris negative value is added?
  19. Why do they keep throwing it to Harris?

yea, I would imagine that is tough. That sucks Tim. I did not know you had broken your neck - scary. Yeah, I broke three bones in my neck body surfing back in 2018

I've played once since breaking my neck and have found that having several of the bones in my neck fused together has hampered my swing. :(
  22. That was... quite a showing by the Illini against Wisconsin this weekend.
  23. I don't think I'm even going to try to put an offseason plan together until I see who gets non-tendered.
  24. i don't see a realistic way to build a cup contender with toews/kane/keith/seabrook still on the books. i think they had their chance to do the reboot over the couple years, but stan blew it. i just don't see them contending before kane is a FA and/or no longer elite, and i think he would get a hefty package right now. Its 3 years for each of those guys right? Is it not possible the tail end or the rebuild coincides with the end of those deals and then new team friendly deals negotiated as that freed up money goes elsewhere to supplement a youth movement? Seabrook is one extra year
  25. Regarding Montgomery, it may not be his fault. I picked this up from the Athletic tonight:
