Despite all the incompetence the Bulls find themselves at a pivotal fork in the road moment. If they hire a good VP/GM and get a little lotto luck, they could really turn this thing around quickly.
I know it's the Bulls but one good hire (like the Bears getting Ben Johnson) can really lock things into place. They don't have a Caleb Williams on their roster but the job is desirable enough as is. This could be a transformative offseason.
I'm not saying he's going to be great, but he was mocked to be drafted anywhere from 9 to 15 so not a reach. Might suck, may have been a bad decision, whatever. But he wasn't a reach. He looked pretty good in the summer league despite that funny picture of him getting dunked on.
I look at the Bulls kind of like the Bears. Ownership is pretty clueless about the sport but they seem to acknowledge that. I also think they're willing to spend money and want to be good. They just don't know how to hire the right people, which is a huge problem.
The Bears got the right people because they landed the #1 pick and have a star QB. They're going to have possibly two top-15 picks in this draft and ~$65 million in cap space. A good GM could turn this around quickly. Will they be able to find one?
It's amazing how much my mood will be altered by losing to a conference opponent. I felt no stress for Houston but was sick before the Iowa game. Similarly I am confident and excited for UConn but if we win and match up against Michigan I'll really be going through it.
Indeed, although I'll be watching between my fingers considering how the last month has gone. Penn shoots the 3-ball well, if they start off hot I hope we don't get into chucker mode. We have such a size advantage, can't get suckered in by a smart team who knows who they are.
We'll still need to draft a S but I'd take Brisker back on something reasonable. Has to be 1- year deal, can't hurt to have a guy who will go kamikaze when necessary.
That's unfortunately correct, although he did ok in his first draft getting Brisker and Kylerman. Hopefully having a better coaching staff puts us on a better trajectory.
Fair enough. I know the cap isn't considered "real" but I'm still glad we didn't hand over big money for questionable talent. A lot of these guys will be free agents again next year and will be looking for another payday. Free agency should supplement strong drafting and that's what I'm hoping for this year as it is supposedly a good one for DL/LB/S, which aligns nicely with the Bears needs.
I was being cheeky, but I still like how they addressed so many holes without breaking the bank. No longer term deals for marginal player.
If they draft as well on defense as they did on offense last year, then we're looking at a Super Bowl contender that is built to last (as much as one can be in the NFL).
I think addressing every hole before the draft allows them to draft for upside and talent. I know everyone likes the splash FA but the Bears have so many needs I loved how they shared the sugar.
Really like what the Bears did today. They have more info on Braxton than anyone.
Can go bpa for basically all of their draft picks. 2 DL, 1 LB, 1 DB, 1 OL, 1 WR 1 Whatever in the draft.
I like all the lower cost/short term hole plugging they're doing. I think this draft lines up with their needs pretty well, too.
Still interested to see how they address LT, though.
