  1. Off topic, but I'd hate to start a new topic for this :) who wants to take a day off work with me Tuesday and dedicate it to alcoholism and destruction of the Cardinals for a doubleheader? :) just a thought Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Anyone headed to the game today? I'm traveling solo.. My friends daughter is having an emergency brain surgery up in Minneapolis (prayers). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Would it be fair to say that the Giants and Mets are the only two teams that are currently a threat from keeping the Cubs outta the Wild Card game? If that game comes up and was tomorrow a do you start a playoff experienced Lester or Arietta who has been lights out at times this year? This is if the Cubs get the opportunity to choose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Also looking for Friday's game - either bleachers or dugout box- however if there's only 2 - give them to the guy above me - I can figure something out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. True.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I heard Steve Phillips the other day on the Kaplan show say when he was GM of the Mets his owner told him that making the playoffs was $30 million swing of profit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. This forum is too cool for new topics! Shouldn't we rename it a blog? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I would think that in the slang term "OWN" meaning dominate, beat, and continuously prove to be a better team - I would have to say this would be a logical statement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I think Samardjiza's stuff is good, but I don't know if he's learned how to use it or will learn how to use it. He doesn't strike me as a big game pitcher. When I see a guy like Scherzer, Kershaw, Felix Hernandez or Cueto, I can say with a good amount of confidence they are going to have a good or great game on a regular basis. When I see Samardjiza's name for probable starters, the same confidence isn't instilled in me - but that could also just be my perception. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I think a lot of sports fans tend to think they have the solution (myself included) to a team's woes, therefore instead of ridiculing someone's idea or thought - it can be discussed or never even acknowledged in the first place. I'm not insulting the intelligence of this forum - but more the average fan in general. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I really hope the Cubs don't ever go after Samardjiza again. I think he has good stuff at times but he seems to have quite a few real bad starts. Some pitchers have really good, good, and battle to get through 6 or 7.. I feel like I've seen Samardjiza's stat line be real ugly too many times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Agreed. I'm relatively new here and I feel like my baseball knowledge is definitely above average but it's not as good as some of you, but the one thing I've noticed is that there's a handful of people who post who will jump at any opportunity they can to be a dick.. It's like hey, buddy..this isn't college initiation or high school football practice.. If you don't want to acknowledge what I'm saying, scroll on by. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I also find it very ridiculous that it's a taboo to start new topics.. I mean isn't that the point of the forum? I'm sorry the Cubs owning the mets doesn't really have anything to do with Kyle Schwarber, very little to do with Starlin Castro, so why wouldn't I start a thread if I would like to address the Cubs being 5-0 against the Mets this year? Or a thread to discuss Schwarbers trade value? Or the 2 spot in the lineup? Those are all different TOPICS, therefore I started a new TOPIC. I think we have several people on this message board who think they are way more intelligent than they really are and do really professional things like set standards on recreational message boards. Keep up the hard work guys!! You'll be there in no time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I think in any scenario of Hamels coming to CHC, the Cubs would ask the Phillies to pay half or more of his contract - which they have said they'd be willing to do in the right deal. That makes him just as valuable as Samardjiza last year, if not more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. We can only hope that: 1 - the Cubs make the wild card game 2- the Cubs play the Mets in that game 3 - we can bet the Cubs will win by 1 or 2 runs! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. If the Cubs can get Hamels and only pay him half of his contract and have to give up Schwarber - that allows them to add this fall to an already nasty rotation. To have Hamels around $10 million per year and knowing the Phillies have voiced that they are willing to eat part of his contract if that sweetens the return - that's a huge selling point for the Cubs. Hamels, Lester, Arietta, Hammel, Hendricks this year. Price, Hamels, Arietta, Lester, Hammel next year. I could also see the Phillies wanting a guy like Hendricks back in a Hamels trade, which scares me because Hendricks could be a really good #3 guy when it's all said and done but it'd be tough to turn down an ace at a discounted salary. 17. Steve Trachsel https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i7ra717ZIGo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I would very interested to see what Russell could do in the 2 hole in front of Rizzo and Bryant - it could excel his approach. He's already a good player but I think putting a young player like him with a good approach in the 2 spot could really make his development come quick. Another scenario would be Castro - he's a great hit and run guy since he doesn't strikeout (or walk) much and hits a ton of ground balls. Your #2 hitter will get more fastballs obviously hitting in front of your best hitter. Either one of these scenarios would force the Cubs to go with the traditional hit the pitcher 9th or have someone else hit 9th instead of Russell. Hitting Rizzo/Bryant 3 and 4 would take away from the logic of getting the 9 hole guy on base in front of them however. I do like the idea of hitting either Russell or Castro 2nd though. Thoughts? 19. I think Coghlan is a lot better than his numbers show. I loved watching him hit last year. He's miserable against decent lefties, but as a platoon left fielder, he's not great but he gets the job done. Denorfia is a solid bench player but he's been more of a starter on different spots of the field with platoons (Coghlan) and the injury to Soler. So ultimately - you have either Coghlan or Denorfia starting and have 1 decent bench player right now and if they are both starting which has been the case with the current roster at times, our go-to guy is Baxter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I was addressing the guys who are injured. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I don't care who is hurt, isn't hurt - our bench sucks and that's what it is. La Stella would be a good bench piece but I think he was on Malaysian Flight 370 - pretty much haven't seen him since. All those other guys are just guys who have been decent or good in the minors but haven't done [expletive] in the majors hence the reason they are in the minors again (or hurt). 22. The Phillies aren't stupid - they'll get a top prospect or 2-3 for Hamels. I don't blame the Cubs for not doing it with the future in mind, but those who lobby for Baez, Almora, and Vogelbach - well DUH.. I'm sure we would do that trade.. It has huge upside for us and tons of risk for the Phillies. Some fans are just completely clueless. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. You have to ask yourself - why are you willing to trade Vogelbach, Baez and Almora? Because they aren't that good! Hamels is a freakin stud! You want to trade Castro because he's below average this year? If he was hitting .310 with 10 home runs, I bet you wouldn't trade him then. Why is it so hard for people to understand that people don't want your crap for their valued pieces any more than you want their crap. If we don't get Hamels, that's fine, but those same people who were saying "I wouldn't give up anything good to get Hamels" can't be bitching down the stretch run about how our pitching isn't good enough. If you're saying be patient, I can respect that, but if you're telling me the Cubs should get Hamels and give up "Baez and Almora," you're an idiot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Everyone wants to trade for Hamels, but they expect the Cubs to give up nothing big.. If you want Hamels, you're gonna have to part with something you don't necessarily want to part with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Imagine all the times the Cubs could have traded Brett Jackson and his 158 k's at AAA but they held onto him too long because he had value.. Well he sucked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
