I understand that, but much like any negotiation - one tool that will be used will be comparable cases. Austin Jackson isn't Max Scherzer where he's at the top of the market and every single team in baseball would pay $20MM/YR for his services. Austin Jackson might have 10 teams lobbying to get him, probably 5 of which would actually entertain paying him market value and market value from him won't reach $12MM/YR. The White Sox will not need to go into a full rebuild if they do choose to claim this year a loss. Trading guys like Sale who is on an extremely team friendly contract through 2017 wouldn't make any sense at all. Quintana is another cheap pitcher for them through 2018. If and when the White Sox fold, look for them to shop guys like Alexei Ramirez, David Robertson, Samardjiza, Duke, LaRoche, Danks, Cabrera and Bonafacio. I could definitely see them finding homes for Ramirez, Duke, Robertson, Samardjiza and Bonafacio simply because their contracts aren't horrible and/or there's a demand for their services and performance. All those guys make $ and some have value and are tradable and some aren't at all (Danks) unless they eat significant salary. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree but Vogelbach has little value to the Cubs and other teams know that. Alcantara actually ranks really well with scouts, but so did Corey Patterson. Almora has the tools to be good, but his strengths are more defensive than offensive. Ultimately, you aren't giving up your big pieces/prospects. Vogelbach seems like a Jack Cust-like player, Alcantara could turn out well or could just hangout right where he's at and too many prospects have been held onto for too long only to fail. Almora would be the tough one to lose, but once again - if you want to get good players, you have to give up something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think you have to let Fowler walk unless he'll take a 2-year deal with what he's making now and that still scares me. His weapon is his speed and watching Michael Bourn lose his biggest strength as a speedster scares me off. Austin Jackson on a 2 year deal doesn't sound terrible. Will Venable is a solid defender. I just don't like the idea of ponying up money for offense at this position because the Cubs are well-served for offense at pretty much every other position. I think Russell could make a decent leadoff guy if we are pressing who is leadoff, but Coghlan did well in that role last year. Ultimately, I think we bring in a decent option that has a good defensive reputation and can hit OK or above-average, we take it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the Cubs will send Schwarber to AAA, give him split time between C and LF and explain it as a move to help them this year but then say the ultimate goal is to keep him behind the plate - which I disagree with and also think they'll move past. If Schwarber can be a serviceable LF, that allows the Cubs to have Coghlan and Soler platoon in right field, potentially platoon Schwarber and Montero at C and have an extremely versatile bench. I can see the Cubs swinging a deal for 2 of 3 of the following: Kazmir, Zobrist, Clippard. Would be awesome to see the Cubs land all 3 and essentially shore up all their weaknesses in their rotation, bench and bullpen but I'll be honest - Kazmir's asking price will scare me as I don't see him being as good as his numbers have been. Two things I see holding up this idea: A's would probably net more trading 2 of them one place and 1 somewhere else - most likely packaging Zobrist and Clipped together and trading Kazmir on his own. Secondly, Beane might be hesitant to make a deal with Theo again following last years happenings but that could also be a complete non-factor.
