I'm pretty sure Wood had it long before Marmol. What I was gonna say. Anyone remember some of the pitches THESE braves swung at in that 2003 NLDS? Sick and nasty is right.

Yea here we go. Kerry has been AWFUL this year. I think 3/4 of your posts have been chiding those for "hating" on Wood or Prior (even with a fairly innocuous comment like "here we go") nope, only half. Because woody rules. Did you SEE that pitch? :D

It's what I expect people to SAY in the heat of the moment during a game, but in a format like this, you have to actually type it out and then hit submit, which should allow even just a little restraint. Soul thinks you're an idiot. How convenient that you forgot to mention it was you who used that word first. What did you expect, an award for it? I don't expect anything for it. I simply thing the total absence of rational thought, even in game threads is [expletive]. I am perfectly capable of swearing and saying stupid things, but when typing out a response, I try to think before I do it. I guess you don't think people should. So be it.

Imagine if we were in last place instead of having the best record in baseball. Some people will bitch about the stupidest stuff no matter what. My favorite is the freaking out about Kerry Wood coming in to save a 1 run lead. You'd think he was awful. No...if we were in last place, the fans would be much more apathetic. The difference is, our expectations have been raised, and we hold the Cubs to a higher level than we did in 2005, 2006 or even 2007 at this point in the year. We want to see Geo succeed so badly, because we know his succcess is a central piece to us winning the World Series. Well then, it'd be nice of some people would show even an iota of baseball acuity and post intelligently - identifying that Soto is a ROOKIE. And most ALL rookies have to adjust their game as they develop and as the league gets to know them. Still doesn't explain the people who STILL don't want to see Woody in a one run game despite peripherals that match the best relievers in baseball. That's just idiocy, in my opinion.

He doesn't have to be your favorite, but what does he have to do for you to feel safe with him? His numbers are downright amazing. All of them. From HR's allowed to K:BB ratio, to K/9, to OPS against, to high leverage OPS, to RISP 2 outs, to close and late OPS against, to his overall control to his ERA +. What do you need from him? He's been way better than anyone expected if you look at his metics, pretty much any and all of them.

This statement is so stupid I don't even know how to respond to it. Go look up his peripherals and then get back to me. Christ. Wood has been dominant. All closers blow some saves. Marmol can't pitch every inning of every close game. Did we lose? Sham effing closer and his near sub 3 era suck. I can't stand him either.

Hopefully he does the smart thing and leaves Marmol in there after that amazing 8th inning he threw. Depends on how you define smart. Pitching him 2 innings after an inning yesterday would get the majority of people up in arms on NSBB. Doesn't everyone complain about how overused he is on a constant basis. Lose-Lose for Lou.

unless wood blows a save in the ninth inning of game seven of the world series... then we go find budhouse and tear him limb from limb Knowing our luck as Cubs fans, he'll have saved 40 in a row giving up 3 runs in 45 appearances leading up to that game 7 WS blown save.

No it's 5 BB's (2 IB) and 5 HBP. Still though, I posted some of his peripherals in today's game thread right at the end and he's been dominant anyway you slice it. Of course, non-sham closers would be better, but we can't have one of them. [/sarcasm]

Kerry's stats through today (some guestimates since everything isn't updated) 28.2 IP 19 H 1 HR 32/5 K's/BB's = 6.4 K/BB :shock: (He actually has as many HBP as he does BB's and 2 IBB's) 3.17 ERA 138 ERA+ .831 WHIP Late and Close .626 OPS against 2 outs, RISP .414 OPS against High Leverage .707 OPS against Medium Leverage .477 against Low Leverage .325 OPS against All his peripherals are pretty damn good for the Shamiest Sham of Shamcloser we've had.
