  1. Now that's blech. Low trade or value not, Patterson's got to go in order for the organization to start its renewal process. Why? I don't understand this thought process. Why does Corey have to leave for this team to be good? That sounds an awful lot like last year's "get rid of the bad apples" strategy that failed oh so miserably. If you want Corey replaced with somebody who is guaranteed to be much better, fine. If you're looking for more CF production, I can't argue. But the "he has to go before this team can win" theory doesn't add up. I think if you can get the necessary improvements elsewhere, they'd be justified in giving Corey another year to make something of his skills. Because he's awful and Baker will still try to bat him #1 because of his "speed".
  2. Thank god, I thought this was more bad news about the Cubs.
  3. I don't want them to trade Wood. I guess that makes me a yahoo huh? And Wood and C-Patt aren't even comparable. When healthy, Wood is a dominating ace (yes I know he hasn't been since Baker burned him out in 2003). When healthy, C-Patt is still just downright awful. And who would you get for C-Patt? A bag of balls? I'd rather try and get him back to some place of value and then trade him, rather than just giving him up for nothing.
  4. If they're not, please ship him to Chicago ASAP. I'll personally pay for Dusty's plane ticket out and Scioscia's ticket in.
  5. I think fans like Scioscia alot.
  6. You sure like name calling. You've done it all year. Do you even know what the word gutless means? Yes. It means Kyle Farnsworth. Somehow, I have the feeling if you said that to Farnsworth's face you would discover he's anything but "gutless." Probably so, but he'd still choke on the field when you need him most. Which is my point. Maybe, but he's no more gutless than a person willing to throw around unfounded insults anonymously on a website.
  7. his K/9 and BB/9 don't show nastiness. Not compared to the top closers.
  8. Ummm... stay healthy for a full season? After reading through the first page, I thought that the thread had made it past the "OMG NOMAR CAN'T STAY HEALTHY!1!111!" stage, but I guess I was wrong. Who IS that babe in your AVatar?
  9. Dude you really gotta come up with some new baseless, juvenile, insults. You're lack of creativity reflects poorly on your intelligence.
  10. Or a true conservative these days.
  11. sign him. 4 million + 5-6 miliion in incentives. Extra million for less than 15 errors.
  12. Hasn't that been the problem? I guess we could have the age old argument about how Prior's injuries were flukes... :? You disagree with this? You think most of them weren't flukes? He's had 3 real injuries, 2 have caused a great deal of missed time IIRC. 1) Running into Giles. How is this NOT fluke? 2) Getting struck on the elbow with a ball travelling over 100 mph. How is this NOT fluke? 3) Achilles. The only one that could be considered not fluke. Nothing irritates me more than people suggesting Prior is "injury prone".
  13. You sure like name calling. You've done it all year. Do you even know what the word gutless means?
  14. His K/9 ratio is nowhere near the top closers in the game and his BB/9 is a little high. That worries me. I do like that he didn't give up a lot of XBH, but the jury is still out for me. Maybe he gets even better? That's not what I care about though for the next 3 years. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. Giles. If I say it enough times will it come true?
  15. Tim McCarver still has the Cardinals to root for. As does Joe Buck.
  16. I guess then the question is... Why? Head case. See yesterday and Mitch Williams for more. Judging a pitcher on one outing and not the overall numbers is a very ridiculous thing to do. If you read the thread, you'll see I go by more than one outing. If you actually did, and looked at his numbers as a whole, you can't really do anything but come to the conclusion that he would be the best reliever on the Cubs. Bar none. He had a bad 2004, and that's it.
  17. Geez, did you even WATCH Farnsworth with the Cubs the last six years? Sometimes he was great. Sometimes he was a gas can. There were way too many times he was the gas can to be worth sticking with him. I can think of a half-dozen times against the Cardinals alone that Farnsworth completely blew it. Couldn't throw strikes for the life of him. Then grooves a fastball that gets clubbed to death 450 feet. Next. Agreed. I guess the games that I was watching were he was the pticher walking people and giving up hits in big games didnt happen. How many times to pitchers get big moments in playoff games? Every time he has been needed to get BIG outs in playoffs games he has failed. Worse than that...he's given up a lot of runs and walks. What we saw yesterday was what we saw a lot with Farnsowrth. Or else he'd still be on the team. The stat I care about is WINS. Especially in playoff games. He failed. I could care less about the "off field" stuff. He killed us....OFTEN! And helped us WAY MORE OFTEN. But people only remember the bad things. Speaking of myopia.
  18. Two horses cut it for the D-backs.
  19. So does EVERYONE in the world, besides Dusty and Hendry see our gaping problem with OBP? I want to run face forward into a wall.
  20. He should start the next 5 games but I know Macias will be in there at least 2 probably 3 of them. F Dusty.
  21. 05/10 - 09/25 IP H R ER BB K HR PC BB/9 K/9 HR/9 WHIP ERA Dempster 55.3 41 12 10 25 49 1 914 4.07 7.97 0.16 1.19 1.63 Those are pretty damn good numbers other than the bb/9. No BAA Fred? I don't have any need to overpay for Wagner or BJ when we can get Dempster who wants to be here for cheaper. He's proven his worth. Minus a couple Mitch Williams saves, he's made me feel very comfortable, and EVERY closer has those. (I especially like the HR/9 stat).
  22. Hall Weeks Fielder Hardy All Kids. All played, because Yost isn't a dipshi* like Dusty Clark Overbay Lee Jenkins All Solid. Their crappy players like Magruder aren't the first ones off the bench like Macias. When someone gets hurt, they play youngsters. Sheets Davis Capuano Turnbow Wise. All Solid. Ned Yost, not an idiot like Baker. And they have more than HALF, yes more than HALF our payroll. And they will finish ahead of us. I hate being a Cubs fan right now. Screw Dusty. Screw the organization. I wish I was a Brewers fan. That's type of organization I would love to support. (And no, just because my name is badger, doesn't mean I am a Brewer fan, I was raised in Chicago and went to UW) Alas, I'm stuck being a lifelong Cubs fan. :(
  23. It's this kind of thinking that caused the Alfonseca trade; look at save totals, ignore peripherals. What's Dempster's ERA as a closer, and his BAA? It should be pretty indicative of his ability since he rarely if ever comes in with runners on.
  24. I feel so much better knowing he only has a 5.54 era in the first inning. That's one way to look at it. Another is to say that in 18 of 26 starts, he's gone through the first inning unscathed. And until the last five starts, it was 17 of 21. Perhaps people are dwelling on a recent string of starts instead of something that is a persistent issue. It's much easier to sensationalize everything than use common sense and facts though.
  25. Let's sign him up.
