Can any reliever really be good with the way that Dustbrain uses and abuses them. That could go for Starting pitchers too (remember 2003 and how our starters had the most pitches per start).

For Cubzfan64 and CubbieRich, I would be willing to bet my gonads that he will not waive his no-trade clause in the middle of next year, if he's pitching those numbers. 1) with Z and Prior as 1 and 2, we'll probably have a realiztic chance of making the playoffs if all 3 pitch to their potential, and I'm not worried about Z or Prior. So in THIS situation trading is not an option. My question is do you let him go without getting anything in return, or do you pick up the 2007 option - only two realistic choices if the above numbers are true.

I don't believe Walker or Nomar got a raw deal, or are getting a raw deal. I just think the Cubs are making a mistake with them. If they end up improving the trade with a Walker trade, I'll have no problem. That's part of the reason I really wanted that option picked up. Now if Hendry does sign Howry that in my mind means he will use Walker in a package to get a quality impact bat...fingers crossed. That is if there is one available. There are ALWAYS impact bats available via trade. It's only November so there is plenty of time for Hendry to wheel and deal, and we know he's looking at the trade market so... Here's hoping it's not Encarnacion/Jones/Burnitz/Hunter etc.

Is Philly really that tough of a sports town? I honestly don't know. Anyone? Anyone? Beuler? NY is absolutely brutal. Philly is a BRUTAL sports town.

Is that really the type of reputation you want your organization to have. IT would have an impact on future FA signings. Right now, If I'm not mistaken, Hendry really appears to be a man of his word, for better or worse. Mistreating players, misleading players would get around through the fraternity. Hence why I don't want him to F over Walker (besides the fact his production for 2.5 million is an absolute steal.

Not really. The pitching was near the top of the league. Certainly good enough to make for a 90+ win season. The offense was mediocre. That's the reason they failed to win 90 wins. You can't really snicker at a top 3 pitching staff, or expect much more. You can expect more than a 9th ranked scoring offense, especially when you have a top payroll. Wasn't their bullpen awful that year also? aside from Borowski and Farns? I seem to remember Wood having at least 5-7 games he left with the lead but got a ND.

yeah. given the amount of $ the cubs have to spend, i'd rather have wagner at $10 mil than eyre at $3ish. and as long as we're throwing opinions out there, i'd rather have wagner at $10 mil than eyre, neifi and rusch at $10 mil. Bashing Hendry at all turns is in vogue now. Fantastic. There are three (count 3) things he should be bashed for right now: Neifi Rusch (maybe a stretch - he could be part of a package) not firing Dusty That's it. Nothing else is even known.

Yea well, if Hendry had fired Baker and hired someone like Girardi I'm sure EVERYONE on this board including his harshest critics (whom I don't agree with) would certainly offer him a great deal more of latitude in his decision making because they realize the bullpenn is going to be misused, Neifi wouldnt be starting regardless of how much he's making etc. But Hendry is loyal to a fault, and it's gonna sink him.

Cheap ones. Young ones. Players with at least one useful skill. I realize that, I just wanted some names that interest him, that's all.
