  1. This is really the FIRST I've heard of Prior leaving after this year? Where is this all coming from? Is there substance to the rumor that he wants out. I guess I could see it, his best friend on the team will most probably be gone, so less motivation for him to stay + a buffoon for a manager and general manager, and a club with no direction. What am I going to do with BOTH my Prior and Wood jersey after this year if this is true?
  2. Are you the guy who has that problem with his keyboard at work? I kind of doubt that Hendry would try to gauge the reaction that way. My guess is that either a) someone just made something up, or b) some person lower down that Hendry talks to told someone else. (much quieter) yes I am, I appologize I am just wishfully thinking Hendry is testing the waters so to speak..this trade idea makes me physically sick Quite possible. Perhaps they're trying to motivate Prior a little?? Who knows. Motivate him to do what? Dodge better? he needs to wear a cloak of positive agility! Or +1 Boots of Quickening. (glaven) Are you guys role-playing fantasy nerds? Is there sleeve of invincibility or sleeve of fixed mechanics +1 for Woody?
  3. There is a good possibility his #'s will drop tremendously. I'll pass. if his obp drops tremendously, it'll just look like jacque jones'. True but i was more referring to his power #'s. We already have a weak OF powerwise, I don't think we can afford to have Murton as our only "power hitter" in the OF. At least Jones can jack 20-25, maybe more in Wrigley. I'm rationalizing I know, and I don't want Jones at all, but I don't think I want lawton either.

  5. So you're giving all the positives of Zito and then describing Prior only as a guy who hasn't pitched a full season. I don't get the point. Are we talking about some third rate middle relief prospect coming of back to back tommy john surgeries? Are we talking about a 20 year old starting pitcher? Zito- full package Prior- full package The majority of baseball would value Prior higher. Yeah, but how many wins does he have? Not you too. CubbieRich? Please tell me my sarcasm meter is busted.
  6. At this point, I would be ecstatic if Hendry does nothing, as long as we keep Prior. I bet he knows how crappy of an off-season he's had, so if scares the living bejesuses out of cubs fans and then we end up with good old #22, there will be a mass exhale of relief, and people will forget about the crappy job he did, and just be happy we still have our future cy young award winner.
  7. Well I wouldn't blame the Cubs organization for Ken Rosenthals baseless rumors. But if they did this, I would be done being a Cubs fan.
  8. The positivity is a nice change, but the 2006 Cubs are screwed if they don't make a big move, or they don't get Cy Zambrano, Cy Prior, and Cy Wood clicking in the same year. I'm predicting Brewers Astros Cards Cubs Reds Pirates next year.
  9. Could you also throw in a really scathing criticism of Dusty and Jim continuing to pitch Woody out of the Pen, when the Cubs were out of it, and they knew he needed surgery, espcially being that he won't be back for opening day? Anything to ignite a lynch mob to get these two jokers out of town. Much appreciated, Badger
  10. I'm approaching the point where, unless he is packaged in an extremely lopsided trade that puts us over the top, that I hope he goes somewhere in the NL and absolutely crushes us every time we face him. And that Neifi 0-fers and has 5 errors in each game. Actually I seriously hope Neifi tears an ACL in spring-training (and I've never wished ill upon people), but I know that won't happen because mostly only our good players get hurt. Our crappy ones stay healthy for ever.
  11. Uh, that would be a definite NO. But, nice try though. Can we now get back to the topic at hand, which I believe had something to do with Kerry Wood pitching in relief for no other apparent reason except Dusty felt the need to preserve a winning season for his own personal gain. Ding Ding Ding! I also think Dusty used the WC possibility as an excuse to meet his real goal: obtaining a .500 record for his own personal gain. Pitching him the day before surgery? That really should be grounds for instant firing
  12. Is there actually some good Cubs news?
  13. I don't think you get it. The blowup occured after somebody gave a smartass reply belittling another poster's opinion. He wasn't expressing opinion, he was acting very rudely. And some people just so happen to choose the exact opposite opinion of the majority, on every issue. Now, "the majority" doesn't always agree on everything, far from it. Despite a perception that some "longtime posters" just sit around agreeing with each other and knocking out the dissenting voice, that's just not true. I would have to be described as a longterm poster, or at least among the most frequent. And I've argued with just about everybody here. I've gone from complete agreement on certain topics to complete disagreement on other topics with people like Tim, 1908, BBB, Cuse, JC, Sulley and many others. There isn't a trend of one group siding with each other and ignoring others, despite what some wannabe martyrs want to believe. Furthermore, if your opinion is that it made perfect sense to send Wood out when the team stunk and you knew he was injured and needed surgery, you deserve to have people come back at you strong with the opposing view. Anybody can feel free to express a dissenting opinion. But I don't think they have any right to cry "unfair" if and when the majority comes back to rebut. Calling anyone "insane" who believes that wood should have pitched out of the pen is labeling a group of posters, something I got reamed oout about when I refered to the "corey appologists" back in my rookie days as probably is "martyr's". I don't agree with that opinion, but if we're going to have rules on this board, everyone should have to follow them. Just because someone has 14000 posts, and "knows" all the mods doesn't mean they should be able to say things that others can't. I have been seeing this trend all over this board. Even I, can get away with saying certain things that I got reamed about as a rookie on the board. That's plain wrong. saying the insane bit is labelling posters is a real reach, in my opinion. Ok, just for the record, I can call anyone who doesn't believe what I think as insane? As long as everything's clear.

  15. It's kind of funny how this thread has gone, kinda like something bad happeneing to you. Denial (no way this is going to happen) Anger (#$@#$@#$# Hendry) Bargaining (well if we get Mickey Mantle, TEd Williams, Joe Dimagio this might be ok) Depression (There goes the next 3 seasons etc., I'm gonna kill myself) Acceptance (well maybe if he hits .300 for the first time in his life we can do it).
  16. I defended HENDRY to the bitter end. Ask: Goony YearofDaCubs ABuck BBB Whatever you wrote still does not justify, in any way shape or form, a 3 freaking year deal for Jockstrap Jones. If he signied him to a 1 year deal, i'd be upset, but not torching Hendry. I'm not saying antyhing about Giles OR Abreau, just that Hendry is the absolute king of morons for this deal, in conjunction with the past two off-seasons.
  17. 4/$55-60m extension this season. *that is my prediction of what Hendry will do, not what I would do. That would be the best move in the past 2 years. It might be. But it's generally not wise to give a big raise and extension to a guy coming off a career year if you don't have to. I agree 100%, but that still doesn't change the ugly pathetic fact that it would have been the best move in the past 2 years - despite how unwise it is. :(

  19. I've got OPTIMISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We still got the Chicago Bears right? OR can hendry screw that up too?
  20. It's the Cubs. They will think they are in it and trade for some crappy B type player and then play the vets for the rest of the year so they can reach their incentives. In the off season they will sign more crappy B vets and lose as many draft picks as they can. I think you can officially change your signature.
  21. There's less than that left. No there's 15 million left.
  22. Quoted for Truth. This broke my back, I'm done defending him. Yes. Cubs suck. What a worthless organization I cheer for.
