  1. Good thing your mother loves you, eh?
  2. Boy, you got a half way decent memory, for a young pup. Jul. 3. Please include my name on the list. Thanx.
  4. Dusty's words about Walker (quoted many times here) are really a too tepid endorsement. He seems uncomfortable with the question. He kind of changes the topic. Imagine that you are Walker reading those words: do you feel supported? Northwoods Fan How on Earth could Dusty feel anything but uncomfortable and Walker anything but unsupported with Hendry trying to shop Walker all offseason ?
  5. Bill Madlock came up through the minor league system of the Washington Senators (Now the Rangers). He was part of the trade for Ferguson Jenkins after the 1973 season. As Tim pointed out above, there was Grace and Palmeiro in the 80's. You could possibly add Shawon Dunston from that same time period, although many would question him. Going back before that, you have Brock, Hubbs, Williams & Santo from the early 60's..... and that about sums it up for the last 45 years. [sigh]
  6. Funniest thing.... Mike Ditka made that very same prognostication in an interview on the 10:00 news one day last week !! Go BEARS !!
  7. I got really scorched on last week's forecast, but that has never stopped me before........ so here goes: Fred's Fearless Forecast...... Carolina 14 Chicago 17 Pittsburgh 20 Indianapolis 24 Washington 17 Seattle 24 New England 16 Denver 21
  8. sounds good to me Even if Simms doesn't do that idiotic crap vs. the BEARS...... he'll get destroyed !!!
  9. 8 minutes into the game, Dee Brown & Augustine are on the bench. Illinois & Iowa tied ay 13.
  10. Fred's Fearless Forecast....... Jacksonville 17 New England 20 Washington 16 Tampa Bay 17 Pittsburgh 23 Cincinnati 21 Carolina 19 NY Giants 21 Flame away !!

  12. Yeah, they barely beat the Eagles en route to their World Championship. Indeed. And that one cold weather win broke a streak of how many games / years ?
  13. Doesn't Tampa Bay have a really horrible record when playing in cold weather in January ?
  14. Pittsburgh's list of retired numbers is: Roberto Clemente 21 Ralph Kiner 4 Bill Mazeroski 9 Billy Meyer 1 Danny Murtaugh 40 Willie Stargell 8 Pie Traynor 20 Honus Wagner 33
  15. Seems like Blake is too !! edit: don't mind me. my reading comp Sox.
  16. Bring back George Blanda.
  17. Rusch's season bears some closer scrutiny. The first line below covers 15 IP in relief in April and 5 starts in May where Rusch was pretty effective while posting a 4-1 record. During those 5 starts, Rusch put up pitch counts of 81, 90, 99, 108, and 113. Then came his 6th and best start of the year on 02 June (2nd line below). Take note of the pitch count... 122 !! The next section, line 3, covers four very bad starts followed by 7 weeks in the bullpen, followed by four more starts in late August (the ones you referenced above). All of that is followed by the five September starts I mentioned earlier and repeated on the 4th line below. Rusch IP H R ER BB K HR PC BB/9 K/9 HR/9 WHIP ERA 04/04 - 06/01 46.0 45 12 12 23 33 1 787 4.50 6.46 0.20 1.48 2.35 06/02 9.0 4 0 0 1 7 0 122 1.00 7.00 0.00 0.56 0.00 06/03 - 08/31 58.3 92 54 49 23 52 10 1142 3.55 8.02 1.54 1.97 7.56 09/02 - 10/02 31.7 34 13 12 6 19 3 511 1.71 5.40 0.85 1.26 3.41 Seems to me, that Dusty pushed him until he broke, and it took him fully 3 months to recover from the resulting "tired arm". So the question is, in my mind, how will we use him this year ???

  19. Yes indeed they do Fred. I really think with this new division thing the Cubs will have a chance! Well..... Hey, Hey, Holy Mackerel, no doubt about it, the CUBS are on their way !!
  20. Terrible trade. Why would we trade two quality workhorses like Jackson and Buhl for some unproven kid and a strikeout artist like Phillips? Typical Cubs... I hope the Cubs don't go after Mays for center. He's old and one of Leo's boys and will get way too much playing time. Just you wait.... they're gonna get that Bobby Bonds kid. You know, the one they call "the next Willy Mays". Mark my words, it will happen !! If I know the Cubs they'll get him when he's old and past his prime. Them CUBS have a long and storied history, no?

  22. Saw what? Anywho....what does everyone think about that Jenkins trade? I think the guy has some potental. I think the Cubs will be major players in 68! You're drinking that blue Kool-aid again. No way they're any better than 3rd place !!
  23. Where were the Trib higher ups when a lot of money was being handed out to a crappy ballplayer? 15m is what they gave a crappy ballplayer just last week. Jones is a classic Cub signing. Essentially, sign a guy hoping he can return to past glory. See Kal Daniels, Maldonaldo, Hundley, Nomar for more. I'm sure one of the elder statesmen Cub fans could come up w/ one heck of a list of such signings. You rang?: Danny Jackson, Dave Smith, Rick Agulera, Goose Gossage... Kevin Tapani, Willie Wilson, Luis Salazar, Steve Buchele, Mike Morgan... Vance Law, Larry Bowa, Jay Johnstone, Henry Rodriguez, Joe Girardi (second coming)... Anyone else feel exhausted or like they want to: :pukel: EDIT: I'd hate to forget Gaietti, Veres, Guthrie and Remilinger... This exercise could get really exhaustive.
