  1. This isn't about the W/L, it has to be about the lack of development from Castro/Rizzo. Or simply that they see a better long term option that won't be available next year. Or both. exactly. i don't know if a manager can do a better job in developing castro and rizzo, but it's worth a shot I don't know how much Dale could have had to do with Castro/Rizzo, either. I am thinking that Rosenthal's theory about Sveum being a "caretaker" until a long term solution was identified/ready to be put in place was probably pretty close to spot on. And the fact that Castro/Rizzo/Shark all took steps back under his watch can't have helped.

  3. Eating the money destroys value. And you just said blocking was kind of a real thing I don't think making a big financial outlay knowing that it is going to create a situation where someone has to go is a good idea, but at the same time Almora isn't a player who is exactly knocking on the door. I'd have very little issue with signing a good center fielder long term. Now whether or not you feel comfortable shelling out a ton of money/years for a guy who is volatile health and performance wise is a smart idea, even in a vacuum, is a whole other and very valid issue.
  4. IF he stays healthy, probably. But he's a long way from the bigs and he's been hurt a lot already. I think it's even odds at best (right now) that he makes the majors. His health is a huge question.

  6. It goes without saying, but Jeffrey Loria is a despicable piece of [expletive] [expletive]. No doubt he is trying to deflect blame for buttfucking the Miami fans and taxpayers on to Beinfest. On the plus side, Beinfest can go find a new job where his boss isn't satan.
  7. I think this FO doesn't think that way and if they truly think it's time to cut bait with Sveum, it's because they don't like the job he does and they won't hire someone they don't necessarily think is the best candidate just because he's a "known commodity." In other words, if they think Ausmus is the best candidate, I think they would hire Ausmus. You may be right, but I wasn't trying to say they would hire a guy because he is a "known commodity", but because he might be they guy they want, and his stature might make it less likely he'll be available later. Or to put it more succinctly, Girardi almost certainly won't be available beyond a small window beginning soon, while Ausmus probably will be.
  8. I'm not sure I buy into the Ausmus thing. The FO may like him, but I have a hard time imagining they'll dump one noob manager for another. My feeling is that if they're going to ditch Sveum early, they'll do it for a known commodity who probably won't be available later (like Girardi).
  9. Yes, LMFAO
  10. I despise the Yankees, but the moment when Rivera was taken out of the game tonight was pretty freaking awesome. One of the best scenes on a baseball diamond I can remember seeing.
  11. I'm sure, but they made their bed by playing like ass for the better part of two weeks.
  12. Meathead or not, I wish we had Carlos Gomez. [expletive] Brian McCann. Well yeah, I'd like to have Carlos Gomez on the Cubs as well. But what he did was still bat [expletive] crazy.
  13. While I'd be pleasantly surprised, I wouldn't really be shocked if the 4 guys were all in our MLB lineup at some point, though. I estimate it like this (very unscientifically, based on my own feeling/expectations): Will these guys end up in the Cubs' lineup (barring trade) at some point? Baez/Bryant = almost certainly (90% chance) Soler = probably (60% chance) Alcantara/Almora = maybe (40% chance) Last year I would have put Baez in the last group, but he's ascended to the point that I think it'd take a catastrophe for him to not at least crack the lineup in the next year and a half. Almora's predisposition to getting injured has me a bit more pessimistic on him than some others.
  14. I think he may be partially nuts, which influences how he perceives their history. On MLB tonight they showed a highlight history of Maholm/Gomez, and he was being nuts towards Maholm back when he was on the Cubs (he did the whole crazy eyes thing and did an exaggerated bat flip on a double. And iirc, the leg this year was the second time Maholm plunked Gomez, but this isn't exactly head hunting we're talking about. But clearly Gomez sees himself has having been terribly victimized by Maholm, and responded to something that was fairly innocuous with one of the more bizarre displays in recent memory. And if the Braves/Maholm had been truly preoccupied with enforcing the unwritten rules, Maholm probably would have laid a fastball in Gomez's ribs after the swing and miss/stare down.
  15. It wasn't the posing, it was everything that followed it. If we're following the Unwritten Rules of Baseball©, then shouldn't Gomez have just been plunked during his next PA? The whole blocking the plate thing was a really stupid tough guy act. Yeah it was, but in this case it was the less ridiculous display, by far. I have no love for the "unwritten rules", but I'm not sure there is precedent for the crazy-eyed lunacy that Gomez was perpetrating. If McCann had walked down the third base line and punched him in the mouth, I probably would still have thought he was being less of a douche than Gomez was. I'm fine with a little staredown and watching your shot for a couple seconds, but Gomez did around the bases was on a whole other level, maybe a couple levels. It was bizarre, and all because he had been hit in the leg a couple months ago.
  16. Yeah, they ran through it on MLB Tonight. There wasn't much aside from Gomez historically owning Maholm, Gomez getting plunked (by all appearances unintentionally) and Gomez being a lunatic.
  17. It wasn't the posing, it was everything that followed it.
  18. Agreed. And yet, I still wish he'd have beaten Gomez's ass. Gomez was so far in the wrong there it isn't even funny. They said it on MLB tonight, but he's lucky he didn't get drilled after the first swing.
  19. This isn't 2001, we don't "need" Rizzo to be a 1.000 OPS guy. Yeah, just for perspective, there are a grand total of two players with an OPS of 1.000 this year (Miggy and Davis) with Trout just a tick below. We don't need Rizzo to be Cabrera or Trout, which is a pretty good thing. If Rizzo eventually settles anywhere into the .850-.950 OPS range, we'll be doing just fine.
  20. You know that's not true. I completely know that it is true. I would say that there are no good ways to manage an abysmal bullpen and very few ways to mismanage a spectacular one, but I think this year's pen falls somewhere in the middle (bad, but not abysmal).
  21. Big no on any of those names for me. Especially Wedge, mattingly, and Yost. Yeah. Eww. I'd fine with Girardi, maybe even Gardenhire.
  22. Whenever someone makes the "most rings = best QB" argument, I ask them if they think guys like Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson were better than guys like Dan Marino, Jim Kelly or Warren Moon. I usually get a "they were better when it counted" or "they were more clutch" or some sort of hot garbage like that. It's total meatball logic. In no way, shape or form is Eli Manning even comparable to his brother in terms of quality of play over their careers.
  23. *cough*streaming*cough* I've had poor luck trying to live stream anything in HD, because the internet option in my area completely blow. I have zero patience for buffering and poor quality.
  24. I like when the Bears play in one of the prime time games because it guarantees I'll be able to see the game. I live in the regional coverage twilight zone and invariably get crap, and Sunday Ticket is just too rich for my blood.
  25. An afterthought to this weekend: Am I the only one that is stupefied at how people can, with a straight face, debate who has been the better between the two Mannings? Am I missing something, because in my opinion, it's a slam dunk. I also can't stand the argument that "QB X has more Superbowl wins than QB Y, therefore he has the better track record/is more "elite"". It makes my head hurt.
