  1. I thought they were putting him in the pen. I'm pretty sure I heard start. That doesn't necessarily mean he won't come out of the 'pen with the Cubs, though. It sounded like he'd only make one appearance with an affiliate. The Trib's site says he will work out of the pen both in the minors and upon his return.
  2. The Tigers aren't nearly as good as the teams ahead of them. The Cubs are every bit as good or better than the teams ahead of them. Two very different situations, IMO.
  3. Actually, it is Pair-ez. At least that's the way they pronounce it here, where it's 80% hispanic.
  4. I'll bet the only reason he said that is because Todd hit a ball to LF earlier.
  5. Joe is so articulate. He should give public speaking lessons.
  6. I don't think anyone is going to argue that Hairston is a better defender than Corey.
  7. Too bad both Lee and Ramirez are hitting better on the road. Morgan is an ignorant ass.
  8. Blanco! Hank is building his HOF credentials.
  9. And you just know Dusty loves his "aggressive" approach.
  10. He's right... You miss with a FB, you're less likely to give up a line drive/HR than you would if you hung a breaking ball. A hanging curve/slider is the easiest pitch in baseball to drive. A "hanging fastball", UK? When have you ever heard that said before? i know what he's trying to say too, but there's no such thing as a hanging fastball. You leave a FB right down the middle with no movement, it's a hanging FB (no pitcher tries to throw a FB like that except 3-0 vs. a punching judy), it is a stupid term, but can be applied to that type of pitch. I prefer "flat" or in scouting terms "straight" and for movement "none". Agreed. A fastball with no movement or bad location, yes. A hanging fastball, no. Anyway, back to the crappiness. Hanging fastball = A fastball less than 75 mph, or a junior high fastball.
  11. The Cardinals may be ahead of us by more than 10 games in the standings, but it ain't because of fundementals. Also, it's a bit disingenuous for the Cardinals to cry injury when it has only happened to them recently while the Cubs have been plagued for most of the season. And last season. 2004 may have been the worst injury year I have seen from any team in my memory. 1985 They were drafting guys outta the stands to start games for them. 1985 is right about at the beginning of my Cubs fandom. I wasn't too concerned of injuries back then. But in my recent memory no team, Cubs or not, seemed to be as screwed by injury as last years team. On another note, Prior really needs to stop fooling around and go after guys if he wants to stay around for long.

  13. Jerry needs to remember he's not a power hitter.
  14. Thats the problem.. He is a good starter because it takes an inning or so for his sinker to sink in. I think Mitre should be starting or he has no point being apart of this team. Exactly. He has no shot of being a good reliever when he depends so much on that sinker of his. I see him as being trade bait more than being in the future of this organization. I totally agree. I have maintained that if there is going to be a significant trade, Mitre's going to be part of it. I like Sergio, but I like both Williams and Hill more.
  15. Exactly. Ryan has 10 times the stuff that Joe ever had. He has amoving fastball that he runs up in the mid to high 90's, and a wicked slider. If he had great command of the strike zone, he'd be unhittable. Sometimes that word ("if") can be the gigantic. True, but I'd rather take my chances with Dempster than Borowski. Both get/got themselves into jams, but if Dempster has to really go right after guys, he can come at them with filth. And Ryan seems to get into tight spots a bit less frequently than Joe did. On a related note, Rod Beck in 1999 was the worst at making things too interesting. It was lousy season for the Cubs, but Beck took years off of my life that year.
  16. Yup. Steal some signs, swing, and hope he gets lucky.
