  1. So you're saying offensively he's been in the middle of the pack in terms of NL shortstops? Currenly, among 13 qualified SS in the NL, Neifi is 11th in OPS, 12th in OBP, and 10th in AVG. Thanks, I was about to post this.. :) I was just waiting for SJCF to respond... I was really surprised to see how far down the list Izturis had dropped... Yeah, he really fell right off the table.
  2. Sliding into first is the dumbest thing ever.

  4. Exactly. People are way too fickle. I am as happy as anyone that Neifi hit that GS in STL and tied the game last night, but that isn't going to make me forget that he has been nothing short of abysmal over the past two months, and most of his career. I appreciate what he did for the team in April and May, but he has essentially been Rey Ordonez since then. His presence in the lineup over that time has clearly been a detriment to the team.
  5. Ronny Cedeno. And people aren't angry with Neifi Perez. They're angry with Dusty for playing him over a kid who was hitting .370 in AAA and sticking him in the 2 hole. Exactly. Neifi saved our butts in April and May, but it has been clear for quite a while that Neifi isn't cutting it offensively, and that's an understatement. Now some people may have the warm fuzzies over his two big hits recently, but the reality is that Dusty's insitence on playing him over Cedeno has been really hurting the club. Neifi may be a better defender, but only maginally so. Certainly not enough to make up for how much better a hitter Cedeno is. I am not mad at Neifi, he is what he is. But he along with Hollandsworth need to be on the bench, and that is Dusty's fault. So you think AAA pitching is the same as ML pitching? Watch them bat. Cedeno has an approach, works the count, and more often than not makes solid contact. Neifi is blind hacker, and the vast majority of the balls he hits are weakly hit. He puts the ball in the air way too much for a guy with below average power, and when he does hit the ball on the ground, he lacks the speed to beat out alot of hits, and hits into alot of double plays. Cedeno is putting up roughtly same numbers as Neifi, without the benefit of consitant AB's. When you have a guy hitting .370 at AAA and a guy hitting under .200 for two months, is there really a decision to make? AAA pitching isn't that much worse, and Cedeno has shown a far better approach at the plate than Neifi in the lamentably few AB's he's gotten on the big club.
  6. Dude, they're crafty, speedy, veterens, man. Dude, man, Dusty needs his speed guys at the top of the order, man. And Nefi isn't even that fast. He doesn't steal many bases, and grounds into a ton of double plays.

  8. We under appreciate Neifi. He's a career sub who has filled in admirably. Let's not have short memories, Neifi and DLee were carrying the offense when Aramis and Corey were automatic outs early in the season. Without going into the same debate again, I'll have to strongly disagree. Neifi did well in April, but he's regressed to his career numbers, which I don't want on the roster at all. Nonsense. Since May 1: .241/.261/.337/.598 Who's been worse? Cory Patterson for one. Nope, actually 50 points better in OPS, but he's been deemed not good enough to be on a major league roster at that level of production. Yet Neifi has praise heaped upon him for being worse since his hot start. I should have clarified though, I was referring to infielders when I asked who was worse, since you claimed he was the best reserve. This is a prime example of why I'm glad the Cubs look at more than just selective stats. I guess you just ignore defense, but hey that's ok. Your're entitled to your opinion, I just disagree. CPat is where he belongs BTW. Selective stats? I challenge you to find even one offensive category that Neifi has even been decent in over the past two months. Any category. And defense is good, but when you hit under .200 for two months and don't draw any walks, even the best defender becomes a detriment.

  10. There is a thread in game threads about this. Just fyi.
  11. I read on CBS sportsline that the White Sox are trying to get Huff.
  12. Phil Rogers knows nothing. He sounds like a casual fan.
  13. Yeah, Matt's a really good guy, and he has a young child. I hope to God he's alright.
  14. Yep. I happily got the STL series wrong. I think most of us are happy that we're wrong. I would say the majority of us would have expected 1-2. And as hard as we were hitting Carpenter, we really should have swept. I can't believe the Cubs only managed one run that game.
  15. Giants average nearly 4.5 runs per game. Hill gave up 2 in 5; so he held them just below their average. What I think people are enamored with is that he didn't tank. He faced major leaguers, got them out, and displayed a wicked curve ball. With that curve ball, he has excellent potential to become a Blyleven or Zito. Overall, his potential to be a Zito is probably closer to a reality than Kearns potential to be a J.D. Drew. Sure seemed in the first couple innings that he got away with some bad pitches, and I thought that if it wasn't the Giants up there he's had been hurt early. But he wasn't. He lives to start another day. On the other hand, he did get hurt by some real cheap hits. I suppose it will take another start or two at least to get a good read on how he'll do.
  16. Yeah, but as Dalgreen pointed out, you have a big lead to cuishion the impact of these injuries. Not that they don't hurt, but it really sucks when it happens early and have to play catch up all year. The Cards might see that lead shrink to 5 or 6 games, but that's as far as it will go, I think. Now if something really is wrong with Pujols' shoulder (and he didn't look right in the last series), you could have a real problem.
  17. THANKS TO NEIFI, WHO DOESN'T EVEN DESERVE TO BE ON A MAJOR LEAGUE ROSTER! I DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE FACING HIGH SCHOOL PITCHERS! OMG HIS TWO BIG HITS TOTALLY MAKE UP FOR HIS COSTING US OUT THE WAZOO FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!
  18. Whatever. As good as he was in April/May, he has been that bad and worse since. We would have been far better off with Cedeno playing over that stretch, and I don't think you can logically dispute that.
  19. Nothing will. Neifi, the best back-up SS ever? Definitely in all MLB for this year. Started as a backup, should have gotten some consideration for the all-star game. Oh, but he sucks. Yeah.... He's batting under .200 over the last 43 games. He sucks. I notice you didn't include his BA for the first half of the season. Certainly was above .200. 40 rbis for our SS now. Which was by far the best stretch of his career. By far. The reality if Neifi is not pretty. He came up big for two months, but that doesn't excuse his sucking like a black hole over the last two. Being nostalgic over Nefi's hot streak is nice, but not productive.
