  1. What's Ron supposed to say in that situation? Maybe I'm a jerk, but something in English would do. I am glad that he pulls for this team, but he adds nothing to the broadcast, especially in situations where things are not going well. Sorry, I'm not with you on this one. I'd much rather Ron be showing concern than saying, "Now that we have a break in the action with DLee and Eyre down on the field, let me take this time to talk to you about Levitra" Discussing what happened in a coherent fashion would be nice.
  2. There's nothing wrong with arguing, but it seems like that's all you do here. Mix it up a little.
  3. In comparison to Pujols, yes. No, in comparison to himself. "Past his prime", I think, is the term that we're using. I'd imagine Lee has about two years of prime left, if you follow the age prescription (27-32, I think). But yes, I think Lee will start to decline soon, which is why I would rather have seen him signed to a 3 year extension. But Rolen's fragility compounds his age, so that has to be a consideration as well.
  4. So funny....... and so original. He hits REALLY well for a 46-year old, doesn't he? Got anything new? Do you come here just to argue? Someone else brings up Pujols being 46, and I'M the one that wants to argue? What's the point in saying something like that? If it were original, I might see the humor in it. At this point, it's just stupid. Regardless of the originality of the Pujols joke, the general tenor of many of your posts is defensive and argumentative. You are in enemy territory, and the humor isn't always going to suit you.

  6. You are assuming Ramirez is entering his prime now. Over the last three seasons (inclucing this one), his numbers are on the decline. Maybe Ramirez is leaving his prime as well? Maybe he peaked in 204? That kind of thing is hard to judge. There isn't a set number of years for a player's prime (could be long, could be short), nor is it set as to when they are in their prime. Some guys peak early and some peak late. Do those numbers include Rolen's stats from last year's bad shoulder season? If so, that brings his 3-year average numbers down. Why do you think Rolen is leaving his prime? He has shown no signs of slowing down. I think Rolen has established early on that his shoulder is just fine. He's played every game so far, has put up good numbers, and says his shoulder feels good. With all due respect, Rolen has has only one star quality offensive season (2004). You can't tell whether he is coming or going, especially considering he is exiting his prime years. Over the vast majority of his career, Rolen has been very solid offensively, a .280/.375/.890 guy. Very good, but not elite. His 2004 season sticks out like a sore thumb in his career numbers. Ramirez has been better than the average of Rolen's best years (OBP aside) over the last two years, and Ramirez is four years younger. Don't forget, Ramirez has had injuries skew his numbers as well. We'll know a lot more about Rolen's trend after this season. f Ramirez improves in his prime years as most players do, he will put up numbers that Rolen hasn't even approached. In all probability, in 2 or 3 years Ramirez will be on a whole other level than Rolen offensively. Having said that, I would take Rolen if I had to win right now, but only because of his stellar defense and ability to take more walks.
  7. That one was bad, but not quite on par with most of the others mentioned. At least Polanco and Timlin are/were quality ballplayers.
  8. I thik that makes the Cubs about average in pitching around him
  9. Offer him the money, and If he takes it, he stays, and if he doesn't, he goes. That's all I am saying. Personally, I am not sure he would leave at this point in his career.
  10. How are you going to give him 4-5 million? Unless you can somehow convince him to cut his salary in half before the arbitration deadline, you're going to be paying him at least the 9 million he gets this year. Convince him. Isn't a team option? Can it not be bought out? This year is the option year, it vested with IP requirements. I thought so. Well, then I don't think it is a problem. He says he wants to win here, I wonder how much he wants to switch teams at his age, and he knows that at 40+ teams will probably expect some decline. Not everybody is Roger Clemens, and he doesn't have to go to arbitration. 5 million per is perfectly reasonable, IMO.

  12. I think there's a much better chance than you think that Wood is back. And I don't agree that Prior is unreliable, but that's debatable I guess. And still $9M is a lot for a guy that isn't a guaranteed top of the line starter. I agree. I think it is actually likely that Wood is back. No one is going to offer him a big contract after the last two years, and he and his wife love Chicago. I think a one or two year low base - high incentive contract for Kerry is probable. As for Maddux, I would bring him back for 4-5 million. I think he'd go for it. I am less than sold on Hill, and Guzman is still unreliable.
  13. Me either. Are they underrated, or are they overrated? And doesn't walking guys have something to do with "how you pitch to the lineup"? I think he was trying to say that some overrate and some underrate them and he just thinks they are what they are, depends on the situation. Basically walking guys when you want to, and not walking guys when you don't want to.
  14. If he's hurt, he's hurt. If he's healthy, he needs to be starting. It's not like he would be bumping someone better. Our bullpen is loaded, Kerry makes a ton of money, and our rotation is patchwork. Why in God's name would anyone want to pay a potentailly dominating starter a huge salary to sit in the pen where he isn't needed? If he is healthy, he is one of the best. If he isn't, we're no worse off than we are now. Putting him in the pen would make less than zero sense.
  15. Yeah we don't. I want the Starter version back please.. I don't. He's not fit to be a starter, with the voilent motion he has. Either that or use him heavily, f him, and execute the win-win-win-lose plan. Win: We get quality starts from him. Win: We help settle down the fans and take back the city. Win: We prevent Wood from fixing his mechanics and hurting us w/ another team. Lose: Wood is out of a job. How is he "not fit to be a starter?" B/c he blows his arm out a month after returning and is back on the DL. So, he starts= he blows his arm out....if hes a reliever he doesn't? Yeah, if he is going to blow his arm out, he's gonna do it either way. We have him for the rest of this year, and he isn't really needed in the pen, especially at his salary. He should be used where he can help the most. If he is going down, let him go down doing the job he is being paid for.
  16. I know what you mean. I haven played real ball in over 10 years. I played a few seasons of slow pitch, that i'ts not really comparable. Slow pitch softball is the easiest sport known to man.
  17. Because it's not. People who pronounce it that way piss me off. Jim Spanarkel will have to be the bodyguard for Ian Eagle then to keep him safe from you. Yes. I HATE him. He and Ian Ziering from 90210. Bastards the both of them.

  19. What happened? 3-run shot to Jack Wilson. Wasn't it Craig Wilson?
  20. It seems like that, but IIRC, the average height of the adult American male is right around 5'8" I thought it was more like 5'11". I feel about average and I'm 6'1" I just checked, and it seems to be just a shade over 5'9"

  22. 5' 11", 180 Switch hitter, throws left. I pitched and played CF. I could throw in the 80s, but had little control. In the OF I will track down just about anything hit in the air. I am a bit out of shape now, but I once ran the 40 in the mid fours. In the OF my arm is quite strong but erratic. At the plate I have little power, but what I do have is from the right side. From the left side I am a singles hitter. When I am not trying to drive the ball (which I do too often), I have excellent bat control. I will steal bases, but tend to be too agressive running the bases.
  23. Prior ran out of gas in game 6, Wood was already out of gas going into game 7. Alou and Bartman had no bearing on anything. AGon's error had a lot to do with it, but I'm not sure the rotation had enough left to beat the Yankees even had the Cubs won the NLCS. Prior, Wood, Z and Clement had to work too hard all year to over come the pitiful offense (which Dusty had a big hand in making so pitiful), and Dusty's erratic use of an already mediocre bullpen.
