  1. I imagine Hart would be the guy if Marshall craps out real early. Gallagher? Ohman? Piggy? All options as well. I just think it would be Hart since Lou seems to like him.

  3. Sean was sucking pretty bad before he got pulled. They didn't do it for posterity.
  4. It would be awesome if Texas lost. Spectacularly so.
  5. Store that sample size at body temperature, and out of direct sunlight !! The assertion was that Fontenot was the "easiest out on the team right now". The data doesn't back that up. Outside of Cedeno, who isn't playing anyway? He hit .211 in July and .208 in August. His OBP was up in August, but his OPS was still sub-.650. His OPS since the break is .612, and his SLG is lower than his OBP. He's been better over his past 20 or so AB's, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if he was the last (or next to last) option off the bench.
  6. Isn't Cedeno the only other shortstop on the roster? Fontenot has played 3 games there this year. Granted he's not a SS - but I'd still rather see him in there than Cedeno. DeRosa also played a game at short. Fontenot may be the easiest out on the team right now. You must have forgotten how bad Cedeno has played this year. Four of the starting pitchers (Z, Marquis, Lilly, Hill) have a better batting average than Cedeno. .127 BA .169 OBP :pukel: Sample size. The fact is that Fontenot has been a nearly automatic out for quite a while now. His numbers only look respectable because of his red hot start. I just think he's been exposed, and would rather Patterson be getting his AB's. Well, that is if Eric could show up on time. Fontenot has sort of leveled off from his steep decline. Since August 22nd he's been an 800 OPS guy (only 27 AB's before today). So basically Fontenot had a red hot start, an absolutely awful month and a half, and now he's right in the middle where he should be. He's not the good player he showed in the beginning, but he isn't an automatic out anymore like Cedeno has been all year. I think Fontenot is only even medocre when his ab's are limited. If you take out his hot start, there is a pretty strong negative correlation between his ab's and performance. I am not trying to advocate Cedeno by any means, but I don't really want to see Fontenot getting any meaningful ab's. Both he and Cedeno should be garbage time players. If someone is needed, I'd rather see Epatt get the at bats.

But at this point he's not any worse, either.

  9. Eh, I dislike Michigan almost as much as ND, and the fact that I expected this sort of result really diminishes it. The Irish are terrible, and everyone knew it before today.
  10. Yeah, it was pretty bad, but no worse than many of Pujols'. I'd bean Pujols too for a lot of his HRs. As would I. The whole posing thing is just epidemic at this point, and few seem to be taking exception. Can you imagine if Pujols/Soriano/Braun, etc. did that to someone like Bob Gibson? Yikes. But at this point it's really just business as usual.
  11. I just checked the scoreboard, and I loved to see that Iowa-ISU score. I'm going to have to call some of my friends back there and give them some crap. And wow, the B10 looks really pitiful right now. And Notre Dame is so bad it defies articulation.
  12. Yeah, he really didn't have much today, but managed to hold the Cards down after the first.
  13. Yeah, it was pretty bad, but no worse than many of Pujols'.
  14. FWIW, the DBacks are the last team I want the Cubs facing in the playoffs. I know they aren't that good, and there is no quantifiable reason to feel that way, but Arizona just has our number. Unfortunately, so do the Padres. If the Cubs get in, it seems likely they would have to face one or the other at some point.
  15. who moves to the central and who moves to the east? Colorado to the central and Pittsburgh to the east.
  16. I think a team in Portland would be a great idea.
  17. How about the notion that he should have been given the CF back at midseason and allowed to work through his "slump" from the get go instead of being in and out of the lineup, and up and down from the minors? Then starting him right now might not be such a terrible notion. Starting him earlier in the season when Jones was terrible would have been ideal. But now that Jacque is hitting a bit, putting Pie in everyday would probably have a detrimental effect.
  18. Even though you guys look to draw Peavy, Maddux and Young that series? No thanks. The Pirates are pesky, but I'd rather play them than the Padres regardless of venue. You can talk about deceptive matchups, but the fact is that neither the Brewers or Cubs are that strong.
  19. So should have the 2004 Cubs. Probably the worst product of the 2003 season was the 2004 expectation. Man, that team was loaded, and I was as excited about Cubs baseball as I had ever been.
  20. A Cubs pitcher can't find the zone? Shocking.
  21. I agree. I think Jacque just tries to do too much in big spots.
  22. Nah. This doesn't have the same soul-crushing edge as other games... ...yet. Having a RISP in the last 4 innings doesn't crush your soul? Everything's relative.
  23. That pretty much sums up my entire life as a Cubs fan.
