  1. This is just an epically bad move. I was literally in disbelief when I saw the terms. I can image the collective groan that emanated from the Cardinals' front office when this was announced. I still think that chances are better than not that the Cards keep Pujols, but they went down a bit, and the price he will be paid just went way up. If a strikeout prone, one dimensional near platoon player who plays average at best D is worth 25 million per, the best hitter in the game (not to mention a top tier defender at his position) who also happens to be younger is worth 30-35. And that other sound you heard was the last breath of hope the Brewers had of retaining Prince Fielder. I really can't fathom what the hell the Philly brass was thinking. Ryan Howard may not even be a top 5 player at his position. Just scary stupid.
  2. No, not steroids. They have a concentration camp where dust is forcibly extracted from captive pixies, and injected into all players by Dave Duncan (and now Mark McGwire, since he has experience). Clearly all these reduced numbers are proof that Albert discovered the source of the dust, and has been refusing treatment, probably because he identifies with the third world conditions the pixies are being kept in. It has to be traumatizing for him.
  3. You guys better trade him while he still has value. It won't be long 'till Magdal's word gets around the front offices. Seriously though, when I saw the title of this thread I thought Albert had fallen down an elevator shaft or something. Then I looked at who posted it.
  4. I don't want to hijack the thread, but boy has Randy Wells been impressive. I really didn't expect him to continue his success from last year. It's only been four starts, but he's looked pretty good. The starting pitching in general has been stellar, really. If only the bullpen weren't a disaster.
  5. Anderson is pretty good, but their color guy is a shameless excuse maker/apologist, plus he sounds like he is always talking with his mouth full. There are a lot of bad, bad broadcasters out there, but Hawk has go to be the worst. He's the kind of guy who is such an unabashed, biased homer that needs to be relegated to the radio booth (a la Santo, whom I also have a hard time listening to, ftr). If you're going to be calling games on a superstation, you really need to have at least a hint of professionalism. And has been said, the Mariners guys are pretty awful. I also dislike the Pirates crew, who seem the be either morose or off the handle excited, never in between. I dislike the Reds' guys, though Brantley is the only one who is just bad. The Brennemans aren't bad, they're just petty, spiteful Cubs haters. Al Hrabosky also falls into this category. Detroit, Toronto and Florida also have poor broadcast teams, IMO. As for crews I like, the Red Sox, Rangers, Giants and Orioles have good crews. Of course Scully, and before his death Harry Kalas are/were nice to listen to.
  6. God help us if we need Marmol in an actual save situation tomorrow. I really think Lou must actually have mild dementia. Or severe. You can't [expletive] operate by using your closer in the 9th every time you have a lead. This is just ridiculous.
  7. Oh for fucks sake, Lou. Leave Marmol the hell alone.
  8. It's like having Hubert Farnsworth manage the team. Except a lot less funny. "Bad news, everyone! I've moved Zambrano to the bullpen!" LOL, yeah, that's about it.
  9. It's like having Hubert Farnsworth manage the team. Except a lot less funny.
  10. I'm...actually okay with that. No one on this team really needs to be running all the time. We actually got luck with many of the SB earlier. There were at least 2 times Theriot was caught absolutely dead to rights and the MI covering the bag just flat dropped the throw.
  11. Yeah, I'm hitting Soriano/Soto 4/5 right now if I'm Lou. It especially doesn't make any sense to have Soto hitting 8th. It's really pretty mind numbing.
  12. Yeah, I'm hitting Soriano/Soto 4/5 right now if I'm Lou.
  13. Yeah, I was listening to the Brewer's announcers at that point, and they were pretty much thanking Lou for making Marmol work on a night when there was absolutely no need.
  14. Personally, I'm far more peeved with Lou's misuse of Marmol and the bullpen than his odd man love for Koyie Hill. Having said that, I don't know why he couldn't have given Tracy and Hill starts on different days.
  15. I don't see anything idiotic about that take on the White Sox and their chances of contending in a weak AL Central. My point is that both Central divisions are weak and to say that the Cubs awful start is reality while the White Sox awful start is an illusion is idiotic. The WS have a strong starting rotation with a lineup that is close to being terrible. The Cubs have a very good rotation with a much stronger lineup (that is slumping). While the Cards are better than the Twins, I think the talent gap between the WS and Twins is greater than the gap between the Cards and Cubs. I disagree with your last statement, but I don't want to go there. Regarding the blurb about the White Sox, it pretty much said the same thing you're saying. That their offense sucks, though probably not quite as bad as it may currently appear. And that they have a very talented rotation that is currently underachieving in a big way. Yeah, top to bottom the Sox staff is potentially the best in baseball. Of course it's difficult to make any predictions regarding Peavy. I might agree with Banks about the talent gap if Nathan weren't hurt. Of course your opinions regarding the Cards are slightly biased.
  16. considering the quality of his hitting, this is pretty sad. He was probably still an average defensive catcher when younger but killed it when hitting against the scrubs that he went against. I don't think catching gets harder when you get to the majors but hitting certainly does. I would assume a lot of catchers would think this because in high school or college they hit really well. And considering Koyie was almost exclusively a 3B until he got to pro ball, iirc.
  17. You bet your ass we wish we still had Bill Self. I'd trade Weber for Self so fast it'd make your head spin. That doesn't change the fact he has flaws. I, for one, hated Kansas long, long before I knew who Bill Self was, though.
  18. My perception is that Aramis is simply swinging at pitches he doesn't usually swing at. He's normally pretty selective, but I have seen him swing at more crap in the past couple weeks than he usually does in a half a season. Why? I have no clue.
  19. So did all these people. https://engineering.purdue.edu/AAE/AboutUs/Alumni/Distinguished/Astronautbios/ And they still have a worse engineering program than Illinois. Yeah, there's not really a debate to be had here.
  20. Well my fantasy team appreciates it.
  21. Apparently the father was an off duty cop, and did indeed punch the guy a few times. NM, the guy hit him a few times. I misread another story about the incident.
  22. I remember something like that. I got home from wherever I was, got on my computer and saw it was tied heading to the bottom of the 9th, so I thought I'd go watch the 9th at least. I went, turned the TV on, turned to WGN, and was met by silence and a shot of the bushes just above the wall. I wondered why they were zoomed in on the bushes before Hawk mumbled something about that being the game and cutting away to ARam crossing the plate. Off of Linebrink I think. Or Dotel Linebrink, June 20, 2008.
