  1. Alright, here's the 1st game of the doubleheader. Cubs.com is still reporting Harden vs. Morton for this game, but it's been reported the Cubs will go with Marquis. **EDIT: Cubs.com now has Marquis vs. Morton as the starters for this one, as reported** http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2008-05/38504382.jpg Jason has been up & down this year. He brings his 4.73/95/1.439 to the opener hoping for a good performance to start things off. http://images.chattanoogan.com/article_images/article_117072.jpg Morton's been poor for the year, but better lately, and he seems to be a streaky pitcher so his 5.70/72/1.435 might be on the upswing. He's shown here in his once and future uniform. Time to remind Charlie and his Braves why they aren't in playoff contention this year. LETS GO.
  2. So in the event of a postponed game, what is everyone's preference? Let this game thread ride and create a new one for Gm 1 tomorrow, or just re-date this one? I can go either way.
  3. It has to do with extra inning games. Starting with the 11th inning, every half inning will begin with runners at first and second. Also, you can start the 11th inning wherever you want in the lineup. oh, that's a great idea. How about we start with a 1-1 count like in softball too? It's the baseball equivalent of college FB's rules. Give the offense a handicapped head start, then see which one isn't bad enough to not be able to score. The least horrible offense wins! Terrible. If that's how they're going to do baseball then they shouldn't have waited to dump it.
  4. Can someone actually provide stats on our run production vs. pitchers we haven't seen before. i have a feeling everyone who believes what soul just wrote has been educated by Joe Morgan. I could be wrong though. As goony said, that's why I said SEEMS like. And as you know, on those few occasions when goony doesn't contradict me, then what is being said becomes sacrosanct :P
  5. Someone get these guys an advance scouting report of Morton. Always seems like we have no clue about a pitcher we haven't faced before.
  6. If you are referring to my post, I didn't say they would sweep I said they "should absolutely sweep". They shouldn't. It doesn't work that way. That's like saying the worst team in baseball should lose every game. Or that the best team should win every game. They should. It's just that they don't.
  7. Yep. Keep blaming the QBs, keep getting back on that carousel. Never look at the larger issue of not being able to scout/coach/develop offensive talent.
  8. They're nailing everything, unbelievable.
  9. The subjective/judged competitions more often than not end up annoying me. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that -- who is to say which was better? It's a guess. Sometimes it seems like a team will get better scores not because they performed better, but because of reputation. I like objective/scored competitions better.
  10. Phelps is just the greatest thing ever. He's literally stretching out for his next race as he takes the Gold for his last one.
  11. Do you really want to know? I'm not that cynical. I try not to be. Then another one gets caught. I wouldn't say it's only one team. It's probably all of them.
  12. Do you really want to know?
  13. ...Piersol brings home another US Gold. That's 3 Gold in the space of 20 minutes.
  14. Natalie Coughlin brings another US Gold home, and looks pretty damn good doin' it.
  15. Ho hum. Another world record and Gold medal for Phelps while sleepwalking.
  16. With the Cards slinking back to St. Louis, their tails between their legs, it's time to get on with the business of winning this division. Cubs send Rich Harden, who is..........the most interesting man in the world: http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa250/soulschizm/RichHarden.jpg (2.10 ERA / 214 ERA+ / 1.033WHIP) to destroy Charlie Morton.......shown donning the uniform he belongs in: http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa250/soulschizm/CharlieMorton.jpg (5.70 ERA / 72 ERA+ / 1.435 WHIP) Stay thristy my friends.
  17. the people who just paid for the stadium? Did they make 'em pay for it? Those poor, lost souls.
  18. I doubt anyone in DC would even notice. They're all Orioles fans.
  19. Colombo blossomed because he was actually healthy. Yeah. We paid to get him healthy so the Cowboys could reap the benefits. There's something seriously wrong with that, especially when you put it in the context of all the other offensive failures on this ballclub. Maybe if it was a one-off I'd let it go...
  20. We win 2/3 from our biggest rival, we're 6-1 against the other 2 best teams in the league over the past couple weeks. ....and yet we're continuing to lose ground to the Brewers. Thanks D.C. Did a bang up job with that new franchise. Losers.
  21. Nah, they'll save up all their minor leaguers we don't have scouting reports on and unveil them all against us
  22. If they hadn't just built a stadium, I'd predict they're gone from DC in a few years. That town has a history of failed baseball franchises. So all this hub-bub about the Expos, and this is what it comes down to? Crappy, embarrassing baseball in the Nation's capital? Hell, they should have gone to Puerto Rico.
  23. One of those Tigers teams is probably worse. I can't believe we lost 2 to these bozos. That better not happen coming up, that's all I can say. BETTER SWEEP.
  24. Agreed. We need to start developing/coaching offensive talent better or it's just not going to improve on that side of the ball. I almost feel like we've let several players who might have been good wither on the vine. Next up on that list: Greg Olsen. I hope it doesn't happen, but what else could it be if Olsen doesn't become a solid TE in this league? Absolutely every indication out there said he had the skills to be great. Now it seems he's MIA every game. I'm sure the list goes on. Look at a guy like Colombo. How come he goes to Dallas and suddenly blossoms? There are probably many other examples, including the legion of QBs we've tried to bring in here. Not one in what? 1,000 -- was any good? I find it more likely that at least a couple *were* good, but we couldn't get that out of them. So frustrating being a fan of this team sometimes.
  25. It's total Gus Johnson at the end. Awesome. I can't believe how excited I was for that. I barely even watch swimming, lol.
