  1. Might even consider just putting him on the IR, and get him healthy for next season. Especially if the season starts off poorly. It'd be valuable to get his feet wet at least. I hate to say it, but this is probably heading towards the inevitable IR announcement. But oh well. It's water under the bridge now gents. Look at it this way: even with Williams there are serious doubts about the football season. I pretty much knew going into this year that it would be a transitional season for the Oline. The situation was allowed to deteriorate too far before it was even addressed.
  2. See now this is the kind of prediction I can hitch my wagon to.
  3. Cards' back is now against the wall. Cubs would do well to keep that in mind...
  4. Wow, '09 draft discussions for a team that's played one preseason game. I think that says it all on how ppl are feeling about this Bears team. Yikes.
  5. I don't know how good Tebow's arm is, but he needs to turn into a pocket passer or harness his running. Pure runners, like Vick, don't make it in the NFL. If he had the old McNabb's escapeability, I would be happy with him. I have some concerns about Tebow in the NFL. He's a fantastic college QB, but I don't think his running game is going to take him very far at the next level. Take away his legs and is he still capable of carrying an offense? I have my doubts.
  6. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/08/07/chris-williams-out-for-the-year/ Don't know how reliable it is, but sure doesn't sound good... :( PFT is a horrible source. I'm not going to say they're wrong because it's certainly not good to have back surgery, but I'll believe he's out for the year when I hear it from a source with a better track record than PFT.
  7. 6 games back for the Cards is a nice way to end the day.
  8. Brandon Backe, not good at pitching. Also, not good at lying.
  9. From my admittedly layman's observation, I think when Sori's seeing the ball well, he's able to lay off that slider out of the zone. That makes him a much tougher out. This is a great thread. I love Sori. Obviously he's frustrating when he goes cold, but man his highs are so damn high it's a beautiful thing to watch.
  10. I'm really bummed because there's no Cub baseball today. But that's a really cool feeling to have, because in order for me to feel bummed the Cubs must be playing great. So I'm happy to be bummed. It's a conundrum, I tell you. A quandry.
  11. Oops. Yeah. And I'm not real excited about the prospect of Pennington and his noodle arm, either. Doesn't really matter anyway. Did anyone hear what Angelo said when asked about Chris Williams? Apparently (I heard this on the radio a couple minutes ago) Angelo was asked why Chris Williams hasn't even been at practice recently. Has he had his back looked at by a specialist? Maybe some kind of treatment? Nope. Chris Williams hasn't been at practice because he can't stand all the way through the practice. At this point it's beyond unbelievable. Surely there was something the Bears should have known about this guy before they drafted him.
  12. NY Giants. 2007-8. I don't mean having a QB that fans/media didn't believe in. I mean a team entering camp not having a clue who their QB was going to be. Eli was the QB from the start no matter what the fans wanted I was under the impression that Eli was under the microscope, and in general was replying to the idea of "controversy" more so then "battle". The thing is, the Giants proved that a team can win with QB as an "issue" at the beginning of the season. I dont think too many people in NY (or the org for that matter) really thought Eli was going to take them to the promise land (for ref, refer to Giants/Vikings game 2007)...but he did..or kept out of their way at least. Fair enough, but a large portion of the time it's a team with a great QB who is lifting the trophy. Having that top QB is the best way to cover the most sins, IMO. Trouble is, finding that guy proves to be difficult for clubs like the Bears.
  13. I don't think Manny can lift this team to the playoffs.
  14. Come on Dodgers, put up another run. And get some damn baserunners on for those Manny HRs, capice'?
  15. Let's just pick up Garcia after Favre signs with Tampa. I wouldn't mind Jeff being the caretaker of this offense while we try (yet again) to identify a future QB. Plus Garcia can move a little. That's what will be needed to stay out of the hospital with the likes of St. Clair and Beekman/Metcalf on the left side of the line.
  16. Cards score on a wild pitch. Pujols 3rd base, 1st inning. 1-0
  17. It's a timing mechanism for him, just like any hitter that steps or taps their foot when they swing. It doesn't really help anything but timing, but trying to make the play without it, and he's useless. I'd rather him hop and look strange than what was happening when he came back from the injury. I think the fact that he hurt his hammy on a play where he hopped was probably coincidental as much as anything. Didn't he admit afterwards that he hadn't stretched out as much as he probably should have before that game? I thought I remember him saying something like that.
  18. In other words, PERFECT GAME ALERT!!!!!!!! Soriano hopping to make the catch near the bullpen mound is scary. He seriously needs to stop doing that. I have no problem with him doing it out in the middle of left field. But when he's 5 feet away from a raised pitching mound, I'd rather he not. Didn't he tweak his hammy earlier this year doing that? And he kept doing it when he came back. It's maddening! Because he tried not doing it and suddenly he couldn't catch lazy fly balls.
  19. just admit it, dunn is good. ? I've never said he isn't and I'd gladly take him. I just would rather have a player that passes both the stats test AND the eye test. *shrug* I agree he's an odd case. Just look at this year. He's dropped 25 points off his batting average without even touching his OBP or SLG. Actually his OPS+ is slightly up this year from last (so far). I'm not a batting average guy either -- but it's odd to see it happen, that's all. The man is still OPSing in the .900s, OPS+ is still great. It's hard to argue with the numbers. It's just.....the smell test, and all.
  20. Let him go 1 more inning. Okay. I'm not going to argue.
  21. For the record, it's August... not April or May... I would think that deserves a good gatorade tossing in the dugout.
  22. If Marquis can't win with this, then take your pick of our minor league starters 'cuz any one of them would be better.
