    No way. Every player on the Packer offense is better than the Bears counterpart with the exception of Kreutz. They have a solid defense too. The Packers will contend for the division and a Wild Card spot. We could argue about TE. Hard to say Rodgers is better than anyone at this point...gotta put him and Orton in the "unknown" category. I like the Packers chances better, but don't count your chickens...crazy stuff happens. We'll see. The Packers didn't look all that ready for the season last game. Actually I was thinking to myself if Rodgers had put up a big goose egg like he just did, only in a Chicago uni, people would be calling for his head. Or at least they'd be calling for Hanie.

    I love the "I know he's played against 3rd stringers" and "hey look how well he's played" logic. It was against scrubs. And playing with scrubs. If you can guarantee the Colts will field their scrub team, then fine. Let's start Hanie with the scrub team.

    Anyone who can ask the question 'why not Hanie' with a straight face just doesn't get it. Please tell me that person didn't try to use Hanie's TD passes against practice squad-level opponents as some kind of justification.

    Unfortunately many Bear fans just don't get why this offense sucks. They think it's all the QB. Just plug in the right guy and it automatically will produce offense. Therefore, the reason we can't move the ball is all on the QB, so boo the QB. Doesn't work that way. Orton could be perfectly fine and we might never know it. Grossman showed he has some skills in early '06 -- it's totally and completely clear to me that when the blocking failed, so did he. That means if he goes somewhere else he could very well be decent.

    Trouble is, lots of times the velocity stays just fine even though the arm gets tired. Sometimes it's the breaking stuff that flattens out, or the control that falters due to an altered arm motion or release point to relieve discomfort. You can't tell a pitcher is becoming tired solely by pitch speed.

    Sadly, I'm reduced to hoping we pick up other team's OLine scraps too.

    Why the hell he came back? He had no other offers. He wasn't getting a starting spot anywhere else. At least in Chicago he could try for one. There's not even a question? What game are you watching? No one is head and shoulders above the other. The Bears aren't going anywhere with Grossman. Might as well see what Kyle can do. Money talks more than playing for a good team does for a number of players. It's easy to fit Boldin under the cap. You give him a huge signing bonus which does not factor in the cap. Or St. Louis does. Then you trade him for Briggs who we gave a signing bonus to. The Bears have 9 million left under the cap. Boldin gets a few million on top of the bonus. Money is not the problem here. I think I mentioned this before, but can you clarify where you are getting that 9 million left number? For all it's flaming and ridiculousness, there is a guy who calculates the Bears' cap space pretty religiously on chicagobears.com. He's got us with muuuuuch less than that left.     To be totally honest here, I can't tell you what the Bears are trying to do on offense. And I follow the Bears pretty closely. I'm beginning to become very certain that the Bears don't know what they're trying to do either. And that's sad. After all these years of not having a clue on offense, it turns out Angelo doesn't have one either, and he's not going to develop a clue. Frustrating as hell -- to me, anyway. As for Boldin, I'd like to see how the Bears would even fit his contract under the cap because from what I understand we're pretty close to it right now. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, of course. But I'd be interested to see how they'd do it. I don't think Boldin would want to come here either.

    Every time the Crew faces a team with it's stuff together, the Brewers start dropping games (it seems). Trouble is, they don't face very many teams with their stuff together. Houston can be one of those teams but not with Wolf pitching.

    I have a strong suspicion that the game will be blacked out in my neck of the woods. You guys get the Brewer blackouts? Wow that sucks, you're miles away from Brewer land. I'll definitely get blacked out here in Madison. I haven't checked, but it wouldn't suprise me if the Brewer broadcast isn't in HD tonight, leaving me with SD baseball again :x

    It's going to be fun being the proverbial sitting duck for the Colts to knock off to open their new stadium. Super Bowl rematch!! Yay! God that game seems so long ago now.

    I would hope Angelo is scouring the streets for some kind of cheap, miracle help for the OLine. But seeing how he's handled it over the past few years, I suppose he's probably not doing anything. I'd be knocking on doors if that's what it took.

    It doesn't surprise me. Let's see what the kid can do. It will be very interesting in Bear-dom if the Bears start dropping games with Orton as the QB and Rex becomes the new favorite QB in town. Especially after the beating he's taken the past couple seasons from fans and press alike.

    Yeah, the biggest problem with Grossman is he plants his feet and then that's it. Come hell or high water -- hospital room or TD pass -- he's not moving. I wish we had the solid blocking to allow him to do that. I really, really do. But this team? It's not going to work for Rex. Our QB needs to be able to jump all over the place to avoid rushers.

    Careful what you wish for. We could conceivably go from playing the Dodgers to the Marlins instead of from AZ to NY. And I don't want any part of that ridiculous ballpark, or any of this "ghosts of 2003" crap.

    Briggs, Harris, Vasher, and McGowan (over Chris Harris) are better. Urlacher, Tillman, Ogunleye, and Alex Brown are at least as good. Mike Brown, the other DT (vs. Tank or Ian Scott), and Hillenmeyer are probably slightly worse. The backups (D. Manning, Idonije, Williams, Payne, Anderson) are better than the 05 backups which included Azumah, Mike Green, Todd Johnson, Boone, and Michael Haynes among others. I don't think it's a stretch to see this defense being better than the 05 version. Many of the players you mentioned are now older, with much more mileage on the tires, than they had in '05. I think there are alot of assumptions here that might not pan out.

    I agree, the judging has ruined gymnastics for me. I'm finding myself turning the channel more often than watching it. At the very least, the judging system is incomprehensible and therefore inaccesible to fans. At the worst, this competition is flat-out fixed. I don't know enough to say which is which, but the end result is the same: it's ruining the enjoyment of the sport.

    Just out of curiosity, how do you figure this Bears defense being better than the 05 unit?

    I'd like to see much better-controlled Harden this time out. GO CUBBIES!!!

    They reap the benefits of having a very supportive, very well-repesented fan base. But yeah -- they have absolutely no claim on being a classy ballclub or anything like that. At least, no more than any other club.

    I'll go ahead and predict 4-12. The defense is going to suffer some injuries like they always do, and that will keep them from being truly great. They would need to have a pristine year to lift the ugly off the rest of the club, and I don't know how realistic it is to expect that. The offense might give up more points in turnovers than it scores. The defense might outscore them in many games. ST's can't make up for this mess. Hester can't run back enough kicks to cover for this. We have no clue how to evaluate, develop, and deploy offensive talent. It's an organizational deficiency, and boy does it ever show on the football field. It's embarrasing to be a Bear fan right now when the offense is on the field.

    Agreed, anytime you can gain games while on a road trip it's awesome. Especially one that involved a team we have had a hard time defeating.
