  1. What's the record when Bob pitches a scoreless 8th?
  2. :rotfl: Anyone want to deny your interest level just jumped a little?
  3. LaRoche can strike out against anyone it seems.
  4. Remember when Lou used to put Howry in to pitch critical situations?
  5. Yep. And the next time you have an opinion that's off color from the rest of the board I'll show you the respect of NOT cutting and pasting it into the busiest thread so I can have the most fun laughing at someone. I wish others would do the same, but I guess I expect too much. I didnt mean anything by it, I just read it and laughed to myself. And then saw the score of the game and laughed again. I didn't mean anything by it, just more of a laugh. Im sorry. Why is your username honoring a player who plays for a division rival? I've always wondered that. I mean I know he played for the Brewers, but that was like 3 years ago. I created that name on Brewerfan.net when he was a Brewer, and when I came here I just kept it. I didn't come into this thread to start a fight (even tho it looks like everyone wants to throw fists at me) I was just pointing out that a team like the Pirates are playing exactly the same as they were against the Brewers. It's OK, I believe you. I don't often see someone grab a post and send it to the highest-traffic place to comment, so it looked like a cheap shot, but I believe you.

  7. Fuku again. Dare I hope he just needed a little constructive dialog with his manager? Dare I?
  8. I'm projecting this to October and frankly, I'm not looking forward to a tight game with Ted pitching to, say, Manny. He's our number 4 starter. What playoff teams have better number 4 starters? Just because Lilly gives up a lot of home runs doesn't mean he's bad. 3 runs on 3 homers is the same as 3 runs on scattered basehits. Did I say I think he's bad?

  10. LOL. But anyways, this game is already out of hand... I doubt the validity of this vast conspiracy. I figure the Pirates just wanted to give Karstens an extra day of rest, since he struggled his last time out. Didn't seem to work out for them, though. Hate to say this one's over already though. When the Nationals can put up a quick 6 spot, no game is really over. I just read that and found it really funny that someone actually thinks that a team trys harder just because its the Cubs. That's a very poor excuse. And yeah the game is not over but, the Nats also scored 6 in a windy wrigley field. I still think it. Don't really care what anyone else thinks. The Cubs are good enough to beat teams like the Pirates on some days regardless of whether they are particularly excited for the game. Pretty bush league to grab my comment from a dead thread and re-post it here just so you can get more attention for your comment though.
  11. So that the order goes R/L/R/L/R/L from Rammy down through Lilly? I dunno, I'm just suggesting it.
  12. :rotfl: Wow, I could almost understand it if that letter was from when they hired Dusty. But it's from this month. How can they possibly still use this as a selling point? Entering today he was at .523, and if he stays with the Reds much longer he'll go under .500 for his career (105 games over entering today). Even if he stays on for the last two years of his contract and loses 100 games those years, he wouldn't fall under .500. If you lose 100, that means you won 62. Over the next two years, that's a net of -76 games, leaving him another 29 to go. He'd have to lose every game for the rest of this year, then lose 100 twice to get down to .500. He'll have to get extended by Cincy to fall under .500 with them, which is pretty unlikely. The record he built up before coming to Chicago was absurdly out-of-wack for what he actually is as a manager.
  13. They brought in Hanie. Problem solved.
  14. No, but I definitely thought he would step up and be a solid middle-rotational starter for us this year. I had no clue he would wind up where he did this season.
  15. I'm not superstitious, but I'd prefer that they get above 32 games or at 30 or 31 games above 500. I was less than one year old in 69, but I remember 1984. Those 2 didn't end so well. It can't happen again. My heart can't take it this time. I was younger in '84, able to recover. Now? Wounds like that might take me out. Oh ?? Let's put it this way. In '03, I got complaints from neighbors about the noise during games. Really, I'm ridiculous when it comes to the Cubs and playoffs, especially when I think they *should* win something.
  16. Angelo is signed through 2013, Lovie is signed through 2011. My guess is 2008 would have to be an utter disaster of a season for either to lose their job before 2009. If they lose 11-12 games, perhaps they will feel the need to make a change, but more likely than not, they will be given an opportunity to show improvement in 2009. Lovie still has a very good overall w-l record as head coach, and the Bears never show a quick trigger finger. The sad thing is, this team could be really successful if they could just achieve mediocrity on offense. Slightly below average would probably be enough for them to at least challenge for a playoff spot. I do think this could be a make or break year for Ron Turner's NFL future. If the defense is good, the offense stinks and the overall record is subpar, my guess is they will give Jerry and Lovie a chance to move forward with a new offensive mind at the helm and what should be a considerable amount of fresh blood on the offensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, by the time that happens, they will be in dire need of fresh blood on defense. Such is life in the NFL. I hate windows :banghead: Especially when it's YOUR window and it looks like it just closed!

  18. Yes it is. Im so ready for this game. Ive been waiting for this game since the Rose Bowl loss last year. Won't be an easy game for the Illini. Are there any other Big10 teams starting off with a quality non-conf opponent? I know the Badgers are taking on the mighty Akron. Quick check....looks like MSU is taking on Cal, that's pretty much it.
  19. He's been working on a splitter since the Cubs drafted him as a strikeout pitch. Since he's gotten the hang of it, he's been really good. Remember, Samardzija's only been a full-time pitcher for about 2 years. Actually, he started working on the splitter this year. The slider started after he was drafted. He threw a curve at Notre Dame that was scrapped. Cool. 2 things stick out for me with Jeff: much better control than @ AA, and much better use of off speed stuff. He's been a work in progress, so it doesn't surprise me to see sudden jumps in performance as he ramps up.
  20. There are plenty of Cub fans who have similar out-of-whack opinions of the Cubs over the Brewers, so I just take it with a grain of salt when I read stuff like that. I get a chance to watch the Brewers a ton, there's no doubt in my mind they are a very good baseball team. Yes, they have some weaknesses but I think that's true of even the best teams. I don't see anything in the way of the Crew showing up in the NLCS, to be honest. They'll probably draw the Mets or Phils -- I don't see them losing to either of those teams in a 5 game.
  21. I'm too lazy to look it up this morning, but I believe Karsten's last 2 starts he gave up 4 and 5 runs. The Cubs had the noble task last time of being the guinea pig for the rest of the league to build up their scouting reports. Now the tables have turned -- we get to look at how other teams have beaten him. It *SHOULD* be a different story tonight.
  22. I'm getting pretty tired of Lovie myself. The bloom is definitely off the rose.
  23. And the flame is extinguished. China did a pretty darn good job with the Olympics IMO. I liked how the time difference was so far off, you could actually watch live events before hitting the sack.
