  1. Actually, it is at Allstate for 2 weeks prior to moving to the UC for 2 weeks. I understand why it is done. I just think it's a pretty good initial indicator of where we're at. Right now, we're being exposed. I'm not saying improvements won't be made -- although it doesn't look like a solid big man will materialize any time soon.
  2. i believe that is known as "epic fail" Marty was doing fine, but they can't figure out a way to get along with him so now? They got what they deserve, Norv the Terrible.
  3. I'm sick of writing off the west coast trip each year. When are we going to be able to say we'll be competitive during this stretch? It's a guaranteed losing streak, every damn year.
  4. Wow, couldn't have said it better myself. I don't really care what system they have ultimately, but I do distinctly remember the ties generating as many complaints as the SOs do now. I don't really see a solution that will please everyone. There will likely always be complaints.
  5. I can't see how he can even try to say that. because he's right Not really. Killing your wife and trying to buy a team are not connected on the surface, but committing a crime can easily derail your bid. Insider trading may be less serious than murder, but committing unethical and/or illegal business practices are actually much closer related to trying to buy a baseball team. Pretty much. Everything's in play. It doesn't really matter if it "isn't connected." Everything will be taken into account, including accusations made by the SEC. I don't see how this guy can try to make the argument that something like insider trading charges won't be considered by the MLB owners. Obviously they will be.
  6. There's danger here, but I guess since we just don't have the young arms to replace Demp, we've got to pay. We need more talent down low.
  7. For something that sucks, the shootout sure seemed to generate plenty of excitement in this thread last night. Just throwing it out there. Nice win last night. Take a road win any way you can get it.
  8. I can't see how he can even try to say that.
  9. Unforseen circumstances = "hey wait a minute, that Soriano deal is for 8 years not 4! Crap!"
  10. Don't have much to say. Win......or else.
  11. and you sound pretty wrong. just sayin and i should add that i take reid's entire body of work into perspective, not just the disappointing last season or two. i understand this may be difficult for someone whose outlook on the cubs changed about 55 times this season - or perhaps more accurately, 55 times each game thread - but that's just how i roll. plus, when you are starting out a post with the sentence "I challenge anyone to name a coach who is worse than Andy Reid" when the likes of rod marinelli, romeo crennel, wade phillips, marv lewis and norv turner are employed as head coaches, you have failed. No he's right. You're an angry, angry man. Defensive too. And you're from Philly to boot, my oh my. if i want anger, all i need to do is read the most recent bears' game thread. LOL. I can't defend against that, come on now.
  12. I have no question that Dempster would love to play for the Cubs. I wish people wouldn't automatically start throwing around the "he doesn't want to be here" line just because a player is trying to get the best contract possible.

  14. He is having a pretty good year you know.
  15. Wait. I blinked. Edwards has 3 INTs in the 1st *quarter*?
  16. Eh, I'm not so sure it's merely coachspeak now. There are plenty of things he could have said that would have been coachspeak, but still better than those comments.
  17. Edwards has got to be driving Browns fans absolutely batty.
  18. I still don't understand how he could not know this. It's not some obscure rule, like the one fumbled snap that was negated in Philly last year. Everybody knows NFL overtime is 1 15 minute sudden death period. And apparently he wasn't alone in that either. From the ESPN report: Just wow. It's truly unbelievable. I guess everyone's to blame. Although in Reid's defense -- I would probably assume my highly paid professionals knew the basic rules of overtime. And, like the website says, I think the ref actually says it during the coin flip for OT. How about listening a little bit?
  19. There's not much of a desired effect to be had here. It's not like he was all set to buy the Cubs and then this suddenly dropped, you know? But that would be too obvious. If the desired effect is to knock Cuban out of the running, now would be as good a time as any. I'm not saying that's what it is, I just wonder that's all. I wonder about lots of things I'll never really have answers to :)
  20. "Ticket prices will be announced later." Muhahahahahahhh. Make 'em wait, then make 'em take up the arse. Wait for it! Waaaaiiit for it!
  21. [barf] Hahah! You like being old, Freddie?
  22. Some of the comments coming from Lovie are, in my opinion, very disturbing. "You just have to hand it to the Packers." --oh really? 34 point drubbing and you just hand it to the other team? That's like admitting we suck. I could see if they made a few great plays to win by 7. Losing by 34 points to any team says as much about your lack of effort and planning as it does about the other team playing well. "They just covered us, that's about it." --no, you just had no plan to get them open. I'm telling you, this isn't the same coach who led this team out of the darkness 3-4 years ago. As much as you can say Tommie Harris took the money and ran, I'm starting to think the same thing about Lovie Smith. Seriously, he hasn't been the same since he got paid, same as some of our players. I've just about had it with him. Give me solutions, not more "tipping your cap" BS. I have found whenever you see lack of effort, lack of performance, 9 times out of 10 you will find the real problems start with the management. I have very little doubt this team's struggles are starting at the top. Lovie and his staff are failing this franchise. It's trickling right on down to the players.
  23. It's a foot in the door. If I wasn't already old and full of debt/responsibilities, I'd go for it. Ahh, to be young again.
  24. I always wonder if something like this is "timed" just right to achieve the desired effect, if you know what I mean. But......there's almost no chance of ever knowing for sure.
