  1. The 49ers always found a way to bork us in those days, one way or another. I still hate 'em. If they never recover as a franchise, I'll be a happy camper.
  2. I see Minn winning on Sunday and then us winning despite the playoff elimination. We always get up for these games and the Packers team that kicked our A's last time is apparently terrible now after losing 3 in a row. Given the two weeks prior, and how they played yesterday against a bad football team, I am more inclined now to conclude they have BECOME terrible. They'll probably be up for us though, since it would appear to be their best chance for that group of players to make any kind of statement on this year other than "we underachieved."
  3. Yeah, it was pass pass(int). I heard that Orton said he never saw that LB. It's hard to sit here and judge because I'm not out there, but I could have sworn he was looking right at the guy and just tried to sneak it past him. That one almost sent me running for the defibrillator, LOL.
  4. what makes that so obvious? oh, and i'd also be remiss if i didn't mention Fuku was roughly 5 runs better than Ibanez on the basepaths last year The fact that he wasn't able to make any adjustments in response to what pitchers began to throw at him is what makes it obvious for me. It's not like he didn't have time to counter-adjust. He just wasn't able to do it. And he's an older ballplayer. It's also not like he's a young guy still formulating his game. I find it likely that he is what he is.
  5. So you'd rather see man-to-man with DBs who can't cover man-to-man so they give up huge plays? The fact is this is a bend but don't break defense. They give up shorter plays. It wasn't the coverage that was a problem, it was the complete lack of pass rush on too many plays. But the Bears played the best offense in football and the defense did a very good job, and won the game. Maybe they just don't do their "soft zone" coverage very well on 3rd and long. How do you figure a pass completion of 18 yards on 3rd and 16 to be a shorter play? It's not. It's a long completion -- exactly what the defense was supposed to be designed to stop. Nobody's arguing that they ultimately got the job done last night. But that doesn't speak to the larger issue of not being a very good defense overall. Part of that is not being able to get off the field on 3rd and long.
  6. OK, but I can show you video clips of Fukudome looking stupid at the plate over & over again, after the beginning of the year.......and let's face it, without Fuku's hot start, his hitting numbers were absolutely abysmal. As it was, he ended at a 90 OPS+, but was far lower than that after June. How do you figure he'll project out better next year? I find it far more likely he'll continue to be like he was in the 2nd half of the year. It seems obvious to me that pitchers simply figured him out. the pics i added in there for hilarity if you arbitrarily dispose of all the at bats where he was productive, then sure he was an awful hitter. what's your point? March through June 340 PA 15.5 BB%, 19.5 K%, 20.1 LD%, 50.9 GB%, .133 ISO, .349 BABIP July through October 250 PA, 11.8 BB%, 22.5 K%, 17.8 LD%, 50.1 GB%, .105 ISO, .251 BABIP My point is what I said. It seem pretty obvious to me there's a high likelihood of never seeing "March through June" again.
  7. With respect to your later point, I think the issue is less about the type of coverage (man vs zone) and more about the amount of fruitless blitzing they do. But they were pulling the blitzers out and dropping them into coverage on those plays. And they still left gaping holes in the middle. More man coverage wouldn't help. The Bears defense handled that situation perfectly fine. They were willing to give the Saints short passes, but shut down any semblence of a deep attack. The Bears did send plenty of fruitless blitzes. On one big 3rd down play Wale almost got to Brees as he looped around inside while a blitzer, I think Briggs, took up 2 blockers up the middle. The blitzing just doesn't work. They'd be better off mixing up all out pass rushes and trying to get in passing lanes and knock down passes. Sorry goony, but consistently giving up 3rd and 10+ plus will never be "handling the situation perfectly fine" for me.

  9. Let's keep things in perspective here. The Cubs had the best and deepest team in the NL last year, and their only key loss has been Wood. Back in October the expectation was that the Cubs were headed for a relatively quiet offseason. Re-signing Dempster and adding a RF were expected to be the extent of their impact moves. So let's not start worrying "this offseason is passing the Cubs by" when their plans were modest to begin with, and are halfway completed (Dempster) with the second half seemingly taking shape nicely with Bradley. Yeah, but if you aren't improving, you're dying. I can't say we've improved yet, at all.
  10. Why? The guy can rake. He's 36, is expensive, awful on defense, and I wouldn't say an .837 OPS for a corner outfielder is "raking". well, I can understand the age, but he can rake it. I understand you define "rake it" different than I do. So be it. Ibanez hit .293 this season, with 23 homers, 110 RBIs, a .358 on-base percentage and a .472 slugging percentage. He is one of just five outfielders who have driven in at least 100 runs in each of the past three seasons. The others: Carlos Beltran, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Lee and Bobby Abreu. yes because rbis are such a good way to evaluate talent. sorry, a .472 slugging percentage from a corner outfielder isn't raking. he's a good hitter. A good hitter would have certainly been better than Fukudome. I don't think he's incredible or anything, but the comments of "oh thank GOD!" are a little over the top.
  11. Why? Because they're both black? You're not aware that Jones had to endure racial slurs from some of the idiots at Wrigley on a daily basis for most of his stay with the Cubs? It's a terrible thing that Jones had to endure racial slurs. But the sad truth is there are going to be racist idiot fans in every city. My point is that it was (as far as I know) an isolated incident with one player. I've never heard Lee say anything about having to deal with bigot fans on a daily basis. The fact that Jones and Bradley are both black is the thing that ties one to the other, though. Couple that with the fact that Bradley himself has already been involved with his share of incidents in which race was at least perceived to be an issue, and it becomes an even bigger concern. All things considered I think it's a valid question. I really don't think it's the fact they're "both black." We have many other black players on the team and they don't have any problems. More likely, it's because both Jones & Bradley seem to be the kind of guys who will more easily take offense to stupid race comments from drunken idiots. I'm pretty sure Lee heard a few as well when he was in the running for the double play record. He just doesn't give a damn what fans say.

  13. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80d35e44&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true wow, SportsNite and the Tribune made it sound a lot worse. How could it be much worse? The man is a fool. He didn't get the opportunities Forte gets because he was one dimensional and slow off the snap. We couldn't use him in many situations because he wouldn't learn to block and wasn't very good catching the football. Defenses knew when he was in there that it was very likely not a pass, so they crunched up on the run -- hence fewer holes. It's his own fault. And the fact that he can't see that is truly hilarious. Add to that the fact that he's a self-centered cancer of a teammate, and you have one big, fat bust of a 1st round pick.
  14. He was the difference. But he didn't "put on an absolute show" with his 46 yards receiving. He forced the Saints into making mistakes because they couldn't cover his speed. But that's far different from putting on some kind of spectacular 200 yard receiving masterpiece.
  15. Well, at least it makes this weekend's Vikings game interesting, and next week's Packer game.
  16. I don't understand that 2nd Orton pick. He was looking right there. No way he didn't see the LB. He just tried to sneak it through. With that much on the line, come on don't try that stuff.
  17. 3 CB's on IR for the Saints'll do it. I remember when CCP had hopes for him. Hehe. Too bad our CBs haven't been much better. I feel safe answering this now :D I think you were thinking about Olemiss here soul. I was laughing at NO for signing him to that contract. He was decent in Indy because of being a zone corner only, but I knew he would simply be an awful corner when he had to play any man to man (as he has proven). Good win Bears to stay in the hunt. Win the next 2 games and I think you've got a great shot to get in the playoffs in some way. You waited, haha. I really thought it was you. My bad then.
  18. I dunno. Carolina keeps winning. I heard Jacobs might not play this weekend or something. At some point not having Plax, not having Jacobs........you can't just dip into the depth chart forever and still win all your games. They looked pretty average last week too. Sure there's a chance.
  19. Maynard is a weapon. Hester put on a show. The Bears TEs have been the staple of the offense since Ditka. LOL. There's much more. But it all just becomes a blur after awhile. He says everything so confidently so most people just don't bother to realize most of what he says is simple bunk.
  20. Just so hard to sit there and watch that D give up those 3rd downs man. That is what kills me the most. 3rd and damn long! Stop them!
  21. eff you payton. You better not miss the 2nd time Robbie.
  22. you're free to leave at any time Aw, see. There's that aggressive thing. :( It's because you have LeBron score-at-will-against-the-Bulls James in your sig ;)
  23. LOL. I can read your mind. Can you just imagine if they fumbled another snap here?
  24. That might just make up for that horrible call at the end of regulation.
