  1. Give me Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharpie, Keith, Seabs. I can more than live with trading periphery players. Scary that I don't even think we've seen K&T's best hockey yet. If the rest of the league is hoping for a major Hawks dropoff -- get ready for disappointment.
  2. 2 million ppl; how is that possible? It's very strange to be here in Vienna watching the World Cup fervor stir to life while the Hawks are celebrating at home. They put up video screens on the Danube last night and everyone gathered to watch....I half expected to see Hawks giving victory speeches instead of WC festivities :)
  3. Incredible! We're champs gentlemen!!!
  4. 1 period. 1 measly little period. COME ON HAWKS!!!
  5. Yeah, that's a really stupid thing to do. It makes me feel pretty embarrassed. There's having fun and then there's going overboard.
  6. Much as I would love to see the Hawks hoist the Cup at home, I really don't want to see it go to 7 games. I don't want the possibility that Philly steals it away in our building. That would really, really suck.
  7. Well I wish whatever is going to happen would just happen so I would know what will happen :)
  8. I've seen more, but can't prove it and really don't want to argue with N&G today.
  9. Uh, what are you basing this on? Anyone rooting for Sandberg to manage the Cubs is still in a very small minority here. Basing on nothing more than my observations of the conversation I've seen here. Then in all honesty you might want to pay more attention. Hell, I don't know how you could come to that conclusion based on just this thread alone. Every time this topic comes up you have people coming out of the woodwork to rant about what a terrible idea it is, and rightly so. Look up about 6 posts. I don't recall seeing much of that at all before. I've seen several posts like it recently.

  11. I find it interesting how it seems like a year ago, the general consensus was that Sandberg shouldn't be let near the Cubs. Now it seems to have totally turned around. I'm being honest: I've never watched Sandberg manage. I really don't have a clue how he would do as Cubs manager. I do feel that the average Cub fan would love it. So from a PR perspective, it's probably a pretty good move to generate some excitement about the team. And ticket sales have been a bit tepid this year...
  12. No surprise. Laviolette's games with that were stupid. I said it during the game and I still think Leighton didn't deserve to be pulled from Game 5. It was an onslaught and the only goal he could possibly be blamed for was the one Bolland got behind him, but that's a tough bounce. Not that any of it matters. Both goalies are just stand-ins who probably aren't going to do anything spectacular. EDIT: By "both goalies" I meant Niemi and whoever starts for Philly, not Leighton and Boucher. Understood. I think all 3 goaltenders that have played in this series have just been so-so. But I also think Niemi has the best chance of putting in a great game. Hopefully he does.
  13. Have there been other cases of a pitching coach surviving long term through several managerial changes? The way things are right now, I'd be all for Larry sticking around after Lou's gone. And I doubt many possible new managers would consider that a bad thing, too.
  14. I don't see why Izzo would do that, either. But I've been surprised before.
  15. By "well-rested" does he mean because he's been in the box a bunch for retaliating against Pronger, or does he mean that Buff hasn't been giving 100% in this series? My take is he was suggesting the latter. But I don't really know for sure. I thought he was implying some combination of "he's been worthless" and "he's been dogging it." Which was hard to argue with. No doubt, when Buff goes max effort, nobody can stop him. He's just always been one of those guys who can't get himself to stay at top speed for more than a game or two at a time. Remember when he went nuts earlier this year when he was trying to make the olympic team? Then he disappeared again. Just give us one more game, big guy. Then you can go shopping for a new blazer. Yep. I was OK with Pronger's comment because I figure it would be the best thing for Buff to hear to get him angry. Angry Buff is usually good Buff, unless he starts committing penalties.

  17. If I was a fan of that team, I'd feel better if he didn't interview until the Finals are over. Doesn't bother me. It's not like he's busy doing work for the Bulls rather than preparing for the Lakers. That's cool. I just have this attitude when my team is going for it all, I want everyone doing nothing but thinking about that goal. But I understand others may not quite feel the same way.
  18. It's funny. I just had a nice conversation with a co-worker who is a big Bruins fan, and a pretty knowledgeable hockey fan in general. His take on Pronger is that yes, he's good and has been good through his career, but he's also a hack and not really as great as he is often cracked up to be. Yes, he's an important piece for the Flyers but he's not winning anything by himself, or even close.
  19. Well, it's just hard for me to believe he's done this. I freely give kudos to Larry and Carlos for turning it around. It's become the brightest spot for my Cub existence in what has been, frankly, a pretty blah season so far.
  20. I'm just happy to beat Pitt for a change, as well.
  21. Yeah, there's that too.
  22. Amazing game, this baseball. Players long counted on for a certain level of performance fall off a cliff, and players laughed at for being junk suddenly start turning in great performances.
