  1. At this point, anybody who doesn't think Epstein is the first choice is either naive or stupid. 1. Ricketts basically said that the Red Sox are his model as to what he wants to do. 2. The media in both towns and nationally are jumping all over the story. 3. He has asked permission to talk to Epstein. 4. The delay can be explained by the Jewish holiday and/or the discussion of compensation. Now tell me that Ricketts won't look like an idiot if he has a press conference next week to introduce his new GM - Rick Hahn (who he claims was his first choice all along). He's trying for Theo, who knows what else he is doing? If he introduces someone other than Theo next week, he simply doesn't discuss first choices or second choices. It's not the first time teams have struck out on a first choice guy. Happens all the time. Doesn't necessarily mean the guy you get is bad. If someone asks that question, the answer is going to be something nebulous that follows what all others would say "we had a number of candidates, the process was thorough and well-executed, yada yada." There are a number of ways to handle something like that in a PR sense. Ricketts isn't going to have egg on his face just because he tried for a certain guy and it didn't work out. I don't think it's necessary to be so dramatic about it if he loses out on Epstein.
  2. NW is game tonight, nice.
  3. edit: 'nother dupe post, due to lingering DB issues...
  4. He didn't seem to understand what his options should be, until the final couple plays and then he blew that throw over the middle. Anyway, switching to Mich/NW...
  5. The guy is wide open and he just completely blows the throw.
  6. Took too much time to get 13 yards. You've got 3 timeouts, no need to work the sidelines.
  7. Bets on Miami going right back down and scoring again? 47 seconds. All 3 timeouts. It is possible.
  8. Sheesh, it didn't matter because Miami decided to play "don't bother bending, just break" defense.
  9. Al won championships. Long ago, but he did win.
  10. How can you possibly allow a 30 yard run, 2nd and goal from the 30?
  11. I'd assume that if Theo was 95% wanting to stay in Boston he wouldn't risk hurting his standing among Sox fans by interviewing with the Cubs and then staying in Boston. Maybe they're just keeping the permission close to the vest so that this scenario doesn't happen. I don't know though. Like some others, I would just like to hear the "no" sooner rather than later, if that's what it will be. Then we can focus on others.
  12. Halftime analysis of the year: "I think I'd cover Jenkins."
  13. I'd say any time Illinois gets Jenkins 1-on-1 it should be a fly pattern and an automatic throw his way.
  14. Being able to read the expletives truly is the biggest benefit to being a mod. Hah. Oh hey look, Cardinals with a tarp behind them and champagne bottles. *reaches for remote* Bye bye.
  15. Yeah, nice job Braves. Thanks for your collapse, now we get to watch this crap.
  16. God. Just. God.
  17. Ready to be dismissed early again, Philly? Here comes the pain...
  18. When your offense is sucking, start waving towels in desperation.
  19. This belongs on cubs.com I vote thread deletion. With prejudice.
  20. Should've listened to wifey, in retrospect. Quick! Might be able to catch the 10:00pm round of showings.
  21. Can't cash in on power plays. Damn it.
  22. They've got to be on the short list for most non-descript/boring playoff team ever.
  23. Oh wow. If it's the Cubs, Axford becomes Bartman and it's a cluster [expletive] for decades.
  24. It's true. And it's funny to say that, considering he's a gm and we've had 100-page threads about people like brian roberts and jake peavy. Putting it all in context, it's almost scary to think about what would happen if someone ever gave us a consistently excellent team. One thing I can think of that would happen is I'd be willing to load up 100 ticketmaster pages to try to score seats again. Haven't cared to go through that for a couple years now. And haven't missed it. Yes, I think acquiring Epstein would be hugely significant, and very exciting. I hope it happens.
