If they want to go all in and demand everyone shows their hand, they're going to be mighty disappointed at the results. I think this is nothing but day 1 posturing.....and we're going to see Epstein at a microphone with Cubs logos behind him very soon. Whether that's Friday, or next week matters little. If the Boston brass want to haggle a little, that's fine too.

It would be way worse for the Red Sox. All Ricketts has to do is say "look, they wanted the moon and I wouldn't give it to them" and then go and hire another perfectly fine candidate. The Red Sox are stuck with a presumably lame duck GM who hates them, a frustrated future GM who just got Conan O'Brien'd and a PR disaster the likes of which we haven't seen in quite some time. Seriously. Plan B? Plan B is it becomes a complete unmitigated disaster for Boston.

Vinestal's right: if they want to test Ricketts, we'll just go a year with an interim and completely and totally rape them next year. They've got zero leverage. Judging by the fact that we walked in and offered cash, I'd say we are fully aware of that. I think it went very well today. We didn't give up the farm. We're standing firm. We're acting like an actual entity that needs to be reckoned with, for a change.

Trust me it is. But according the Cardinal fans he is cheering for the Brewers and you can tell on how he is calling it. Also, Matt Holliday just hit a routine fly ball that the wind carried out for a home run, Holliday didn't even know where the ball was when he hit it. I finally found out why all Cub fan's get frustrating playing the Cardinals. How can a team catch every single break? I don't know but this is what they do. I'm glad someone else is finally understanding what we go through :)

I don't care, I was just commenting about how he wasn't all that good and somebody got all pissy about it. he was good last year and he's been hurt this year. i think he was rushed back because the other guys are not worthy of being on a roster. In other words, rushed back because we suck and have no answers.

If I were a Brewers fan, it would feel pretty weird hearing my play-by-play guy getting all excited over the Cardinals beating my team.

It's called negotiation. You don't just walk in and offer Boston what they want. Start out offering just cash. Very smart.

Peppers probably shouldn't even see the field on Sunday. I'd be tempted to let him rest his knee until after the bye week. Last thing we need is his injury getting more serious. I don't think we can afford to lose Sunday, though.

Time to be positive Bear fans. Cubs just got Theo. Karma is shifting our way!! We're going to beat the Vikings handily Sunday night. Peppers finds his groove, Urlacher another INT. Tillman will cause a timely fumble or two. Happiness!

This really helps me respect Ricketts as a shrewd businessman. I would have expected in the past that opportunities like this would simply be ignored. It seems Ricketts understood the situation and how he could use it his advantage, and then actually did so. My faith in Tom is now growing. Again, as important as the progressive nature of Theo's philosophy is Ricketts' recognition of the importance of consistency and continuity. I openly bristled at the "I don't need baseball men overseeing my baseball men" comment, but now I'm looking at it in a completely different light. Giving Theo full authority over baseball operations is going to have a lot more import than simply bringing in a sharp mind. It makes total sense now. Ricketts is going with the guy who showed he could come in an overhaul an old-school operation in a high-profile city. What I didn't recognize until very recently was that Theo, at a certain point, really couldn't back out. The factors were in place to push him to the next step in his career. I *think* Ricketts knew this earlier on. I'm not sure of it, of course, but the results are certainly fantastic and I'm inclined to think that something like this is no accident.

It's weird that you seem to understand stuff like this and still think Sandberg would be a good manager. I was going to go further but I don't want to start an off topic argument. Yeah, I consider it to be a long shot that Sandberg would actually be Theo's first manager. At this early date, comments or off-hand remarks are more likely just wanting to be nice and keep options open. I fully expect him to choose someone in keeping with his philosophy, and frankly Ryno -- while I love the guy -- doesn't fit the MO. This is the Earth shifting under our feet. Not grasping at figures from our past.

Jesus [expletive] Christ. ... I'm going to give this man so many babies. Dude. The leap forward is orders of magnitude from where we've been. I think most Cub fans won't even understand what the hell is going on. This is unbelievable. If Bernstein is right and the Cub fanbase aren't really responding, then I'd say there's a freight train about to smack them squarely in the skull.....they've got no idea how things are about to change around here. Frakking awesome!

I don't think Sandberg will actually wind up being manager. Other than that, we're basically freaking out getting wasted and loving it.

Isn't Monday the off day before the World Series? If so, that will probably be the press conference day, with an announcement coming sometime Thursday afternoon or Friday. Maybe, but I think the presser is more a formality at this point for us faithful Cub fans. Any stealing of the spotlight from the playoffs already happened, for better or worse.
