    Yeah, I missed my chance to see a Benfica game a couple weeks ago in Lisbon and have been kicking myself for it. Not that I'm a huge fan of the sport, but I always wanted to catch a game.

If that's what it took for this group to take home the hardware, and it contributes to a down season the next year, then so be it. That's a good article. Once again the narrative coming from the Vancouver Sun is exemplary. I do enjoy their take on the games, and their team.

    It's a coping mechanism, like you said. The reality really sucks. Can you really say the delusion is some horrible thing? I think deep down everyone knows the curse isn't real. The Cubs have just crapped away 100+ years on bad decisions and bad baseball. I can understand couching that in the delusion of the curse. It's not a very happy reality to have to accept as fan.

    The bolded is is highly debatable, in light of the fact that the WC winner quite often has more wins than the worst division winner. Yeah, it's an incremental change though. I can't see it really blowing things up too much. Plus, I wonder sometimes if the teams that play through are really at a disadvantage. Kind of like in the NFL playoffs -- it's debatable whether a Wild Card team is at a disadvantage because the top team had the week off, or if they actually have an advantage because they're primed and ready to play from the previous week. I suppose it depends on the team and the situation.

    The Dodgers aren't a real team. I'm in the process of convincing myself that the Cubs aren't really playing a season this year, too. Life is just a fantasy.

    I know it isn't. Making money is the point of the playoffs. I'm just saying I don't like seeing wild-card teams get to play for a title every other year just because Bud is desperate to make sure the Yankees and Red Sox are always both in the playoffs. I hate that wild card teams get to play for a title, that's why I don't like this new format that requires them to win an additional series in order to get there? The argument could be made though that if the other teams were so good, they'd beat the wild-card team I guess I just never understood this "Wild Card teams in the World Series are bad" notion. Wild card teams have won championships in the NFL, NBA, and NHL. Why is it so terrible when it happens in baseball? I've never understood this either. What's the problem? Half the point of the playoffs is to give the underdog a shot They'd still have a shot with this system. Just a little less.

    They remind me of the Skiles Bulls teams. Just good enough to be a royal pain, and they eek out every last drop of their potential. But until they get their Derek Rose type blessing, this is about where they'll be.

    I meant once they get clear of McCourt. They've got the market, and good brand recognition. It's not like the Expos -- the Dodgers should be able to revive what they had. But yeah, if this thing turns into a years-long legal war it would be a shame. BTW, this story prompted me to check out Dodger Blues.....and the forum is gone! Anyone know what happened?

    I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean. Upstarts? Sure, OK. I guess they just mean that the Pacers have made games closer than what people expected coming in. Which they have.
