  1. really? every team does it. It's stupid when everyone does it, and i'd think the same even if the Cubs managed to ever do it again somehow. It's no different than winning the 1st/2nd round in the NHL/NBA/NFL and they manage not to pee themselves. Nay. Slaying the Yanks is always cause for celebration from where I sit.
  2. Well of course not. I don't think that's what is at issue here. I'll bet dollars to navy beans most of us here won't actually read the book, for various reasons. For me? I've got too many other things to do rather than pick up a book on Walter Payton at this point. It's ancient history for me -- his transgressions, I think, were largely assumed. At least from my perspective. He was a sports star. Women were available.......pain relief in the face of debiliating illness? Very available. Not terribly revealing, or startling, or really worth my time. For my part, I'm just commenting that Pearlman is netting a paycheck on the back of negative details for a guy who can no longer defend himself. That's all. Regardless of whether it is accepted practice or not in the world of biographies. I reserve the right to be critical of it. And that's all. If someone doesn't like that? Suck eggs. I'll criticize what I want. Deal with it.
  3. Yeah. Wait, we were praying and god didn't answer!! What the hell is going on here?!?
  4. Hahah!! More pictures of Yankee fans in pain! Yes!
  5. They're gonna do it! Slay the damn Yanks!
  6. Well, as long as he isn't already engaged by another guy......legal block. And if it isn't done right, you just put a lineman on the ground and will probably get raped. So it's not 100% either. That's why teams don't just cut everyone on every play. There's some risk involved with that strategy. well, of course. i think his argument here is that the risk is justified. Debateable, but it's a worthy argument. I also think there's value to keeping a guy on his feet to (hopefully) make that secondary block if things break down.
  7. Can you please stop blowing it? Thanks.
  8. Seeing Yankee fans praying for hits is somehow very distasteful.

  10. Don't tell me I'm going to watch the D-Backs hit a granny and a solo homer, then bleed their advantage away and lose.
  11. What show? I'm fairly certain it was Van Pelt... There's a recap of today's show posted, now I'm even more certain it was Olney, and it was on Van Pelt's show. Olney's reasoning: essentially, he figures Boston will be offering a position that puts Epstein further away from baseball operations than he wants to be. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/show?showId=scottvanpelt2009 Edit: and actually that recap has a link to the interview, what do ya know? It's at the tail end of the clip.
  12. FWIW Olney (I believe it was him) was on the radio earlier today saying he's guessing Epstein winds up with the Cubs. FWIW -- which means, probably nothing.
  13. Just listened to the Simmons podcast, he said, "I think a lot of people would think it's a division game, it's going to be close, 6, but I'm going to go with 7.5." Since when is 6 points a close line? Then he listed them as a possible upset pick, which is weird considering he thought the line should be even higher. Guess it means he wants to pick them to win solidly, but they don't have "Patriots" on their jerseys so he's not totally sure.
  14. Interesting to read Gammons' take on the Epstein situation: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111005&content_id=25508780&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
  15. And the revelations aren't necessarily startling. But I get your overall question, BBB. I don't know the answer.
  16. Terrible body language. Standing alone, hat turned backwards, pouting.
  17. I remember thinking "we have the tallest group in the nfl, but they all suck" If Angelo was just unlucky, he would have managed a blind squirrel pick by now. He must have a system that legitimately succeeds in finding bad receivers.
  18. That list is an arid desert of blah.
  19. To me, what they said wasn't stupid. I understand you have a different opinion.
  20. I guess I'll wait to see if the team takes a step forward this year before making a call on his extension. I was expecting the step back - we all were. Now I'm expecting to be right back in the mix.
  21. I'm sure you are correct, but I think the emotional reaction is completely understandable. They knew and really cared about him.
  22. DO THESE MONSTERS KNOW NO SHAME?!? I think we got your point 10 posts ago.
  23. Yeah, let's spit on a guy who wrote a biography. Real classy. Well, he's digging up dirt on a long-dead player for a paycheck. Yes it's a bio but that's hardly the reason anyone cares about this.
  24. I'm assuming nobody paid attention to Colts/Bucs because no Peyton Manning But.. Actually a close game, worth watching if you are hanging out on a late Monday evening wanting something to check out. Tie game, 17-17 heading into the later portion of the game. Sure, not a barn burner, no incredible offensive theatrics to be had. But a decent watch.
  25. Unfortunately this seems to be a more & more popular character trait in general these days.
