an actual vision for the future and not taking on more bad contracts. let's be realistic, the cubs' core was lousy and the only way the cubs were going to be any good in 2012 was to make at least a couple of expensive free agent signings or trade the few good prospects we have for good major league players on other teams. Doing literally nothing would also help us have a vision for the future and not take on more bad contracts. What do you mean? That would just run out contracts with absolutely nothing in return. -
I think this is the wrong mindset. This is how it looks when a team has a bunch of bloated, underperforming contracts and needs to unload and rebuild from the ground up. Yes, 2012 is going to suck. But it shouldn't be viewed as a single, crappy year. It should be viewed as the beginning of something that will grow into success.

Yeah that's how I feel. The only possible ways around this are either getting a guy with an offense Jay is familiar with or bringing in a guy at OC who is going to survive if Lovie is canned in the near future. At least the latter way wouldn't mean 4 of 5 years with a new offense. The Jason Garrett scenario.

This is all very exciting, but I can't agree with keeping Lovie and thus forcing some kind of shoehorn operation to take place in hiring your GM. If you're going to clean house, just clean [expletive] house. Lovie is not important or indispensible enough to warrant limiting potential organizational leadership candidates.

I know it's one game. But losing to the [expletive] Oilers at home just makes one consider -- or re-consider -- what this Blackhawks team really is. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hawks flail in the coming month, falling out of their position as conference leaders in points. I can't help but believe we're riding a bit of a bubble right now, but our true position is a 3 or 4 seed.

that has to be one of the worst playoff games ever. SAYS YOU GO BENGALS I have no problem with "new blood" being represented in early playoff rounds. Go TEXANS! I want to see if they can take the next step.

It seems like a lot of hoop-la for a team that finished the same as the neutered Bears, out of the playoffs, really a non-factor once again. What is really worth talikng about with this Cowboys team? Romo? He's pretty much a confirmed non-elite QB at this point. He fails when the load is put upon *him*. Unless Tony Romo has legitimate self-contained weapons at his disposal, he's not lifting anyone to greater heights. This is a mediocre team with a high media profile. Nothing substantial separates them from the other also-rans. I'm kind of sick of hearing about them all the time, and frankly, I'm glad they have been dispatched from the season's festivities. buh-bye Cowboys, have fun on the golf courses (and sorry, Vance).

Don't buy it. Hanie was playing in games that mattered. McCown came in for the last 2 games after the air had been let out of the balloon. There's no way of saying McCown would have performed well in those other games, when the situation was different (and when McCown had really just arrived in town). The strong likelihood is that both Hanie and McCown aren't good, and the season simply ended when Cutler went down. We lost our two top players. The season ended when we went from a team with some offensive talent which was finally starting to gel, to a team with no offensive talent at all and no clue how to consistently score, and to play with relatively few mistakes.

It took Minny a long time to throw the challenge, and the Bears showed no interest in getting the snap off quickly. Horrible. Of course Gerhart goes for big yardage on the first play.

I'm just going to root for the Bears to win. To hell with the draft pick position, which Angelo probably won't be able to take advantage of anyway. I want to see McCown further make his case as a viable backup QB for next season. To me that's worth a few pick positions.

On one of them it looked like they tried to play tighter coverage. But he caught it anyway. And Briggs read one of them but just couldn't quite get there fast enough. I think they knew what was coming, they just failed to stop it. How 'bout dem Bulls? -
That was an amazing ending. Definitely enough to override the inevitable Bears mess to follow.
