  1. Not sure about the exact timing of the press conference, but I'm on board with your logic. This is pretty much what's going on, IMHO. Maybe Ricketts humors them with a throw in or two, I don't know. I like how he came in with a low bid, though. That was savvy -- at least compared with what I've seen from the Cubs in the past.
  2. THIS. Exactly what i've been saying they have zero leverage. Take Cash and a box of baseballs and like it Sox! Olney's been spot on about this thing from the beginning. He's right about this too.
  3. God the Cards are going to the world series without deserving it.....again.
  4. We won. On to the next game. That is all. Typical Hawks' fashion-- we take it on a flurry of goal-scoring activity that the opponent can't recover from.
  5. Alrighty. YES, the Cardinals can be beat. And YES, in their building. Because they aren't all that good. Now win the series, Crew.
  6. Everything just seems like Sunshine now! Awesome!
  7. Braun SO wants to put this thing away with the 2-R HR
  8. This one has potential. Whether it reaches the Soriano thread remains to be seen, but it's got some oomph.
  9. This is meaningless. So, he hasn't announced officially because there's nothing to announce offically? Wow, such a revelation. I'll guarantee everyone in that front office knows what's up.
  10. I've got the volume down. Not sure what that weird footage of the Crew bullpen was...
  11. Party time still in full effect in my general vicinity. Stop being so negative people. It's just negotiation. You stroke a little ass, everyone goes home thinking they're happy. In the end, Theo's our GM and 2 years down the line nobody even remembers what was "given up" in the negotiations.
  12. I'll cut him the slack. I'm in a good mood over this whole thing.
  13. Uhhh... I'm not sure he realizes that Earl Weaver was awesome. And our GMs were not. His point is pretty clear, and correct. If he thinks Lynch/Hendry/MacPhail were of like minds with Weaver, I'm not sure what he thinks the "Moneyball" (I hate misusing that term for this, but it is what it is) era is about. His point is that we're excited about Epstein because he brings a large change in philosophy, which is absolutely the case. He just used the wrong example to illustrate it.
  14. Hah, chase that bad one upstairs, Ryan.
  15. Uhhh... I'm not sure he realizes that Earl Weaver was awesome. And our GMs were not. His point is pretty clear, and correct.
  16. He made it look harder than it was, IMO.
  17. If they want to go all in and demand everyone shows their hand, they're going to be mighty disappointed at the results. I think this is nothing but day 1 posturing.....and we're going to see Epstein at a microphone with Cubs logos behind him very soon. Whether that's Friday, or next week matters little. If the Boston brass want to haggle a little, that's fine too.
  18. It would be way worse for the Red Sox. All Ricketts has to do is say "look, they wanted the moon and I wouldn't give it to them" and then go and hire another perfectly fine candidate. The Red Sox are stuck with a presumably lame duck GM who hates them, a frustrated future GM who just got Conan O'Brien'd and a PR disaster the likes of which we haven't seen in quite some time. Seriously. Plan B? Plan B is it becomes a complete unmitigated disaster for Boston.
  19. Vinestal's right: if they want to test Ricketts, we'll just go a year with an interim and completely and totally rape them next year. They've got zero leverage. Judging by the fact that we walked in and offered cash, I'd say we are fully aware of that. I think it went very well today. We didn't give up the farm. We're standing firm. We're acting like an actual entity that needs to be reckoned with, for a change.
  20. Trust me it is. But according the Cardinal fans he is cheering for the Brewers and you can tell on how he is calling it. Also, Matt Holliday just hit a routine fly ball that the wind carried out for a home run, Holliday didn't even know where the ball was when he hit it. I finally found out why all Cub fan's get frustrating playing the Cardinals. How can a team catch every single break? I don't know but this is what they do. I'm glad someone else is finally understanding what we go through :)
  21. I don't care, I was just commenting about how he wasn't all that good and somebody got all pissy about it. he was good last year and he's been hurt this year. i think he was rushed back because the other guys are not worthy of being on a roster. In other words, rushed back because we suck and have no answers.
  22. If I were a Brewers fan, it would feel pretty weird hearing my play-by-play guy getting all excited over the Cardinals beating my team.
  23. That's one reporter's editorial, so I don't think you were wrong for excluding it. It means nothing.
