  1. I know it's emotional, but jeebs, Ray
  2. Hahahah, love it.
  3. A budding con artist, he is.
  4. I really think Emery likely did more than just suggest him, but even if we take that as the most involvement a GM has, they should have waited for a GM to suggest OC candidates rather than trust a coach with a horrible offensive track record have autonomy. Especially when its freaking Mike Tice and he's just sitting on your staff already anyways. Maybe they were just trying to give Lovie enough rope to hang himself though. It's hard for me (and, I suspect, several others) to believe you can hold to that, especially after seeing what Emery's idea of an offensive coaching hire looks like. Tice in no way, shape, or form resembles what Emery wants to do on that side of the ball, and Trestman proves that. Your second theory is probably closer to the mark -- although I doubt they were actively hoping Lovie would hang himself. They just gave him one more chance to make an OC hire, that's all. And Lovie -- as he had done previously -- blew the hire. Emery certainly didn't block it, but I think that's about all I'd be willing to say.
  5. It was on ESPN. Well crap. I'd heard them say on the radio earlier that it was on WCIU, so watched a movie instead. Ouch. The thing is, you know a game like Boston-Chicago is going to be on national TV. I was supposed to go out last night and got stuck at home instead :( This game made it a little better.
  6. He no likey.
  7. OK, so who is Belinelli again? Kid just got my attention :)
  8. What's it gonna take for you to let go of any remaining doubt that TICE WAS LOVIE'S HIRE? Money? Women?
  9. Exactly why BPA is so meaningless. Many times there could be a number of players considered to the be the best at that point.
  10. I just don't see how anyone can say, right now, that Trestman is not going to succeed. How can anyone possibly know that. And if you don't know that, then you should at least give the guy a chance.
  11. the packers would have taken him in a second. Yes, I think it would have made more sense for them.
  12. I felt like it still was a reach, even though I do remember he was a late riser.
  13. Yes, I think next offseason he either needs to land that HC gig, or grab whatever DC position he can find. Either that, or make a jump to college.
  14. Only tangentially Bears news now, but Lovie doesn't want to be a DC anymore, so he'll sit 2013 out and collect his $5 million from us. http://fansided.com/2013/01/17/lovie-smith-prepared-to-sit-out-2013-season/
  15. I'd like to hear the rationale. That seems like the dumbest career move ever.
  16. I usually don't even click on this thread. Holy crap!
  17. Eagles may have agreed to more of his control demands when other candidates fell through. Though sanctions probably played a role. According to tweets, he never demanded control, and wasn't given control. College coaches seem to enjoy telling everyone they are staying, only to jump ship a few days later. I like this hire for the Eagles. I don't. I think Kelly is going to need at least a few drafts to get the type of players he needs for his system/scheme and even then it'll be a huge crapshoot. The Eagles really bungled their coaching search imo. I'll grant you that it might take time. There have been a few coaches from the college ranks who experienced success lately -- Harbaugh, Carroll. I can see Kelly following in that line.

  19. I like the direction of the hire. I just have no idea how Trestman will work out. It's an interesting choice with Arians and Bevell still on the market. Without a doubt it signals that Emery is hell-bent on remaking this team with a greater emphasis on offense. And that is a welcome change in attitude.
  20. Bevell is also interviewing at Jacksonville -- the team everyone has forgotten is still looking for a coach :).
  21. But he likes Rivers? Apparently potential head coaching candidates were really excited about the San Diego vacancy for a chance to work with Rivers. They must not have seen Phillip the past few years or they really just want to live in San Diego. Now that McCoy has gone to another team, it's obvious he's a terrible coach and the Chargers have made a huge mistake.
  22. Yeah, I forgot about that. Whew.
  23. And Monte Kiffin got the DC job in Dallas. He could sit out this year and get paid for it, if nothing works out.
  24. Or Bevell? Yeah, last I heard he was still in the mix. I really like that the Bears are clearly breaking from the defense-first mentality. It would have been more like the franchise to pick up another defensive-minded coach, even in the face of the entire league going the other direction. I'll give any of these 3 candidates a shot at it. Should be interesting either way. And, I think, with an offensive-minded HC and Marinelli being given the keys to the defense, the chances of success are higher.
  25. Just bracing for the inevitable knee-jerk doomfest that will surely come from whoever the Bears hire, that's all.
