Who did that? @AndrewMarchand Source: Yanks unlikely to give Girardi permission to talk with Cubs unless negotiations breakdown between Yanks and Girardi's agent So, basically if Girardi wants it. Should be interesting to see what goes down tomorrow. It will be. Notice the half-eaten piece in one of the pix. So, after totalling the car, he figured might as well eat some of it.

No. He's just a manager. I'll say I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the Yankees did in that division this year with that godawful roster. I didn't realize just how bad it was. That's about all I've got. Yes, but that's pretty much what the hope would be in 2014 with the Cubs, too. Get some "pleasant surprises" out of a mostly crap roster, rather than what happened this year with the unwelcome regression of several players. I'm not going to argue that people should be excited about Girardi, but to me he does seem like a pretty good fit. I'm just surprised he wants to go through this, at this point. It's still going to be a lot of losing for awhile.

In terms of the actual game next weekend, I was hoping to see something in tonight's game with the Dolphins that might give me some reason to think the Bears would hang with the Saints. I know they are different teams, but I'm not seeing how the Bears slow down the Saints without significant QB pressure. I don't see the coverage happening against all these options if Brees has time to throw, and the Bears aren't bringing the pressure. And the Saints' D is playing much better. The PF/PA ratio is pretty impressive. Without a few turnovers to tip the balance, I don't see the Bears' units hanging with this team right now. I'm going to give an early prediction on this one: 34 - 24 Saints. Bears drop to 3-2. They climb back up to 4-2 the following week against the trainwreck Giants.

Well yeah, but he wouldn't have any choice here either. What is your point? The fact is, he did work with younger players that year, and he did pretty good with them. It was an even more extreme situation than ours, even. I'm pretty sure the Cubs could do far, far worse than Joe Girardi. So....careful what you wish for.

Aaaaand being in St. Louis, FOX will be showing the Rams-Jags game. Christ. And you can't even get lucky by it not being a sell out because they just won't show anything in that slot. Being in an NFL city blows when the team sucks and you really don't care about it. The only getting 2 games a week thing totally sucks too. I'm loving my Sunday ticket so far. Not looking forward to having to pay for it next year though. Jags have a shot!!

10-6 teams sometimes miss the playoffs under the current system, though. I'm for it. I don't have that big a concern over 9-7 teams making it. It's already happening anyway. That 4th preseason game is pretty much a lost weekend -- I'd rather have another weekend of meaningful football, even if it does open the door to a few more mediocre teams getting into the postseason. -
I'm sure the Bears will gain a little bit from being at home, but yeah -- it won't be the same level of advantage. Nice to play at home after 2 weeks on the road, though.

Yeah, Stafford was held under 300 yards. CJ had just 4 catches for 44 yards. Bears had more total yards on offense than the Lions. If I knew that would be the case coming in, I would have said the Bears win. But that 2nd quarter. Catastrophe. 27 points given up in a single quarter. Unthinkable.

It HAS been working, enough. The challenge is, they must work into the offense longer throws to keep the whole thing honest. And in the meantime the defense needs to continue to force turnovers to cover for the fact that they give up a lot of yards. It's actually a pretty tough formula, over the long haul.
