Is there an indication that this is something serious? From the couple articles I read, DJ's injury sounded relatively minor -- not something that would affect the regular season. He's a vet, so missing a week or two of camp time isn't going to kill his season.
Yeah, I think people are generally letting his (surprisingly) good season last year bleed into how much production he's providing this year and how much he will bring next year at 38 years old. A non-contending team traded 1.2 years of a 37 year old 1 WAR player for a young prospect, $6 million freed up to allocate elsewhere in the offseason, and the opportunity to get a young playe some extended at bats for the rest of the season. I don't see how anyone could be "confused" by this trade. It's pretty simple. Most people will just see A-ball prospect for Soriano, plus the Cubs pick up most of the tab. They aren't going to look at the rest of that.
He might be awful. He put up a lower OPS in AAA than several players who have since turned out to be awful. If you do what he's done in his first six games, you're not awful. He might be below-average when it's all said and done but he's definitely not going to be awful. Below average means he's rather swiftly sweeped under the rug, and then remembered as awful. There's no difference.
That's what we are talking about. I don't think anyone here gives a flying [expletive] about the man's personality, but the question is whether NFL players will care. I'd love a Super Bowl winning geek for a coach. It's not about me though.
Best case, he's a good HC because he does the strategy and leaves the communication/leadership to his coordinators. And it works out. Worst case, it's the Crowton experiment, except as a HC instead of OC, and it's just a catastrophe.
I have an inkling you might be right. That may not be their primary motivation, but it's definitely one of the deciding factors. Also, reports are that A-Rod is going to dig in his heels and not accept any sort of plea deal, and will appeal any suspension. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2013/07/23/alex-rodriguez-biogenesis-mlb-negotiations-suspension/2579977/ The standoff begins. LOL, good luck with that ARod.
Oh goodness, yes. Never, ever, ever gonna happen, of course. Which was implied. We'll be waiting for a long time. Glad the hammer came down, but losing the rest of a meaningless season is not even really a punishment.
My god, even his statement of contrition makes me want to punch him in the face. "As I have acknowledged in the past..." Buh? In the past, you denied any wrongdoing, you [expletive] dolt!
Woah. Are they aware Dalton is their QB? Bengals are a trendy pick this year. Dalton/Green in their 3rd year (year everyone thinks players take off, but it's not necessarily true). Really good defensive line. Pretty decent secondary. LBs are solid. A lot of people feel that Eifert will be a great #2 receiving threat to Green. They've been on the cusp of playoff wins each of the last 2 seasons. It makes sense. Patriots may be without their top 4 targets from last year. GB lost Jennings and Driver. I wouldn't have them that high, but I can see a worthwhile argument being made. Yeah, if all the picks just fall into everyone's expectations, then there's no point reading it anyway. Somewhere along the line someone needs to step out a bit.
