Nah, it's the opposite. None of his 2.5 mill is dead money. He makes perfect sense to cut. If that's the case then you pretty much have to cut him. Hence, no invite to work out w/ BMarsh.

They fired Chud because it wasn't going to get any better -- and THIS is the answer. I don't feel sorry for Chud. Guy got a golden parachute and a get out of jail free card. He'll do much better away from Cleveland.

I'd argue that Shea's problem isn't so much that he's a tweener. It's that he sucks at football. This notion that they're going to somehow shift him around and make him successful that way isn't going to work.

IMO he's done enough to keep his job heading into the offseason programs, starting as a rookie at a tough position from a low round position in the draft. I know Cutler has said that he deserves as much credit as Long for what he did this year.

The best player available should take priority. Defense can be improved with depth. And WR turnover happens quickly. Doesn't seem like Emery is going offense very often in the draft, based on his comments yesterday though. But who knows. It's pretty clear he's more comfortable with his picks on the offensive side.

Nix had knee surgery (I believe). That's the only reason he's below Hageman. People don't really know what to expect from him, but I think he'll be fine. Hageman is intriguing though. Strong as an ox. 6-6 in the middle of the D would be beautiful. But despite being bigger, I think Nix is quicker off the ball. Also allows you to put him at nose if there's a hybrid D or 3-4 D in place. My thoughts exactly. Nix had season-ending knee surgery this year, and the Bears absolutely must hit on these defensive draft picks. I have no idea how Emery will draft at this point, but it seems like a pretty big risk to pick Nix when you already know coming in that he's got a health issue.

Cause it would be the most recent season. Further gets away from injury the more confident you have to feel about him staying that way. I don't know - I think this is all pretty nonsensical and manufactured. I view Cutler as a tough, durable player as far as QBs go. He's been in danger of injury most of the time he's been here because the Bears didn't provide any kind of reasonable way for him to win football games and still be protected. That's changing now and there's been measurable, substantial progress in that direction. Obviously there's always an injury concern with any big money player, but that's not my primary factor in liking or disliking this deal. But I'm not going to argue with you guys over it all offseason. The deal is done.

Also, concussions are just a huge concern with any player. So every team is concerned about that when they spend big money on a QB, or any other player. It's something that is always taken into consideration. I'm much less concerned about it with Cutler now, because I know that the team finally has a commitment to protecting him on the field. But it's always going to be something that can happen, any time.
