  1. pfft...still a lazy, uncoachable jerk. i bet he got there early solely so he could refuse more autograph requests. Uncoachable? Yes, a good argument can be made there. Refusing to sign autographs? I sat and watched @ HoHoKam while Walker, Neifi, Sosa, Martinez all refused to sign autographs. Then CPatt came along and signed for 45 minutes. He was the only one. I realize it was just one day, but based on that experience I would say you're a little off base on the autographs comment.
  2. My guess? He decided after a night of drinking that he was going to prove to everyone that he was able to "change" weather patterns and create very balmy 90 degree weather conditions in New England on that cool January night in 2001. The FBI caught wind of this, and could not have him revealing his legitimacy to everyone. Mass hysteria would be involved if everyone knew that the world will be coming to an end in late 2012, right? They foiled his plan by forcing him off the road and into the tree. It was only a warning, and Daulton has not made a subsequent attempt to showcase his ability to change weather. To answer the original question in this thread, yes...this very well could prove that the Chicago Cubs are cursed. Maybe it just proves that Wrigley has a strange effect on people. In Dalton's case, a VERY strange effect.
  3. As I said, habitual liar. "I didn't know that stuff was roids!" Yeah right Barry  BUSTED.
  4. How are Hidalgo's numbers the past two years when compared with Gonzalez'? Don't know. I don't advocate signing either one. Why do you want the Cubs to sign Hidalgo? Because there's little left to choose from and our outfield is terrible?
  5. I agree Davis has been acting selfish. The trouble is though------Hedrick is being just as selfish. Think about it, just for a second. The only way Hedrick wins 5 GOLD medals is to take the 1,000 meter. The only way he wins the 1,000 meter is by tiring Davis out. The only way he tires Davis out is by getting him to skate more events. Hedrick was never in the running for 5 Gold medals, unless Davis handed the 1,000 to him. So you're telling me Davis is selfish for not handing it to him? How about HEDRICK being selfish for wanting Davis to sacrifice his Olympic dream? Huh? It's a 2 way street. Unfortunately, in typical American media fashion, only one side is being reported. Hedrick is just as much of a self-centered prick as Davis. So why is he being treated like a hero and Davis like trash? That's completely unfair. Anyone who is honest with themselves must concede that much. The "Hedrick is trying to tire out Davis" conspiracy theory is entertaining, but if Hedrick actually thought he had a shot at a gold in 1,000m even with a tired Shani going, he was very much mistaken, because he finished 6th. This just seems like two people who are very bitter at one another, and probably for reasons that go beyond backing out of a team competition. Read the article though. The guy is talking about Hedrick losing his "chance at history" because of Davis. Basically the *ENTIRE* media contingent was looking for Hedrick to win 5 Gold medals. And that's from the very beginning of the Olympics. That means they were looking for a Gold from Hedrick in the 1,000. Now that we've seen both of them skate, it's just as ridiculous for Hedrick to be considered a favorite for the 1,000 as it was for Shani in the 5,000. So.......it brings back the original question. Why is Hedrick being treated like a King and Shani like dirt? I'm not saying racism, I'm just saying the media established a bias before even knowing all the facts, and now they seem unwilling to admit there's plenty of blame to go around. That's all. How ridiculous is it to expect Davis to give up the 1,000 just so Hedrick can win 5 gold medals? Hedrick isn't even capable of making the damn podium in the 1,000! Ludicrous! Eric Heiden *EARNED* his 5 gold medals. Hedrick isn't even in the same league. Hedrick wasn't chasing history. The media was chasing fantasies. Now Davis must pay? Why? This is so stupid.
  6. I'll take just about any help at this point. Bring him in. Or someone else. Anybody. Start holding tryouts. Gotta be someone out there.
  7. I'm suprised they have us picked that good...

  9. Well yeah, but Woody's rate of return on complete seasons has been running at 0% for years now. Sure everyone's one play away, but Woody's been rolling snake eyes so often, I can't see how he will suddenly become a rock in the rotation. 2 years. ....and counting. And before that he had two years in a row (2002 and 2003) where he didn't miss a single start either season. So you can't be certain that, just because he's had injuries the past couple of years, that it will continue. Between 2001 and 2003, Wood made 93 starts. Only after the 2003 campaign in which he threw the most pitches in baseball did he break down again. It might help my confidence a little if he would show up at Spring Training ready to pitch..... This will be the 3rd year in row that Woody has not been able to make all his potential starts. We know this for a fact and we haven't even played a single Spring Training game yet. I'm on very solid ground here. I always wanted Woody to succeed, but it's not happening. It's just not looking good for the guy. Unless he starts turning it around, and I mean double-quick, you won't see him in a Cub uniform for much longer. He's sucking salary and not taking the mound. It's bad. It's not Woody's fault that the team decided to postpone his surgery by having him relieve when they thought they were still in the WC race. I place this one on Hendry/Baker. I won't argue on that one.
  10. The media? With a conscience? That's a new one. You may be giving them a bit too much credit. As for people in the emergency room of a so cal hospital: if any of the staff leaked it, their job is finished and they may face legal action. Nothing is stopping someone from calling KTLA and saying 'I saw Mark Prior in the emergency room today' though. I think the percentage of folks in So Cal who know Mark Prior is a little higher than you think.
  11. He was a Hall of Famer before the roids. It's too bad his legacy is now tainted. You are right----his skills probably surpass any player of our generation.

  13. How many people are going to know Mark Prior in some random SoCal ER? 90%? Maybe more? He's pretty tough to miss, and that's his home territory.
  14. I won't argue that Sammy was full of himself. But so are a ton of these other guys. Some of them hide it better, or have better PR firms managing their image. I don't think Sammy should suffer because the media dug up dirt on him that also exists for a ton of other players who are already in the hall of fame. I don't think personality flaws should take someone out of the running for the hall of fame. In fact, I feel those who would not vote for Sammy because he was "selfish" are intellectually dishonest. A ton of other players who they already voted for share the same trait. So that's complete B.S. and everyone needs to recognize it as such. There may be other arguments against Sammy. But the whole personality thing is trash. Sammy had a good side, and a bad side. That shouldn't keep him out.
  15. Bonds is a habitual liar, so I wouldn't put much faith in what he says. He told a few reporters he was definitely in his final year a couple years back. Obviously that was a lie. Even if he does break the record, the home run king in my mind remains Aaron. And it will until someone legitimately breaks it; i.e. without the assistance of BALCO.
  16. Yeah, what's the whole deal with the FBI and the White House? That sounds like some schizo/mambo B.S. to me 8) I know he's entitled to his views. I'm also entitled to call them wacko. Who knows who is right? I guess we'll find out in 2012....
  17. Yeah, it was a weird moment to say the least. Melissa Stark even asked if he was angry during the interview. He's obviously hurt by the fact that none of his "teammates" are even happy for him. I mean, what an accomplishment! And for nobody to even be out there congratulating him. That's just cold. Shame on all these fools. They should be happy to even be representing this country. Instead they're acting like a bunch of jerks.
  18. If this is a dreadful outfield, then what would you call last year's? Dreadfuler? Wouldn't it be dreadfullerest since there's more than 2 of them? :D Scary dreadful 8)
  19. All the poll confirms is that most people are morons. No suprise there.
  20. Well yeah, but Woody's rate of return on complete seasons has been running at 0% for years now. Sure everyone's one play away, but Woody's been rolling snake eyes so often, I can't see how he will suddenly become a rock in the rotation. 2 years. ....and counting.
  21. A trip to the ER doesn't equal being hospitalized. So like if the guy has a vasectomy or something is he supposed to alert the media? If you were waiting in an Emergency room and Marky Mark crawled through the door looking like he's about to croak.........wouldn't you, like, tell someone maybe? That must've been one deserted ER.
  22. If I'm not mistaken, and I am not, Stone was the consumate professional and always diplomatic throughout his analyst career, until 2004. suddenly his sarcasm is biting, his tone sharp, and his opinions expressed in manor that does not merely state his opinion, but takes swipes at one organization in particular. the differencec is obvious. It could be one reason why his knowledge is so well-respected, yet nobody is willing to offer him a shot at GM. He definitely likes to hold a grudge----though I do think he got a raw deal from the Cubs. After all, the only thing he did was compliment Oswalt's performance at Wrigley. Why that set the whole organization off I will never know. 2004........the ultimate nightmare season in so many ways. How did Stone get a "raw deal" from the cubs? He turned down an offer by the organization to extend his contract (even though Carey was leaving). He chose to leave and has been bitter ever since. Stone may have chosen to leave, but only because Chip was pushed out the door by the Cubs. Personally, I think the Cubs forced both out. I don't think it's coincidence that the so-called "divisive" broadcasters left along with every other Cub that caused any problem at all in 2004 (Mercker, Alou, Sammy, et al.) I don't believe that is the case. Stone has used his three days a weeks on The Score as a sounding board to the locals. From the beginning, he has openly disputed the idea that the Cubs forced him out (in response to callers making the claim). He has been more than candid in his comments so there's really no reason to think that he isn't telling the truth. He may have chosen to leave, but I believe the team made it very uncomfortable for him after the whole Oswalt thing. Of course, Stoney & Chip made it worse on themselves when they started making snide remarks on the air about Walker (I think it was Walker, wasn't it?). I just never understood why everyone exploded at Stoney in the first place. He always gave compliments to opposing teams if they performed well. It wasn't particularly unusual. What happened afterwards certainly was. Now, though----he clearly has it in for the Cubs and will let no opportunity to bash us pass. It's kind of sad. The current broadcasting team, IMO, isn't close to what we used to have on the North Side. I even like Chip more than Len, though I totally admit Len is far more knowledgeable.
  23. He was scheduled to participate in a combined event and backed out so he could put more attention on his individual event. So, athletes are obligated to hurt their individual chances to try and win a team medal? Give the guy a break - all those whining about not winning that event should have performed better in their individual events. Uh, if you're SCHEDULED then yeah, you're obligated. Apolo loses to the two Koreans in short track. Too bad. Yeah, he should never have scheduled it. It was a stupid thing to do, since he really doesn't care about that event anyway. However, seeing Chad "Mr. Perfect" Hedrick upset? Hah. Doesn't bother me a bit. If ever there was a guy who needed a good arse-kicking, it's him.
  24. Funny you said that----it's the first thing I thought as well. Doesn't anyone here think maybe we would have heard if the golden boy hit the emergency room?
