  1. Give me a decent CF, and I don't care so much about this. I'm pretty sure Murton will get the majority of the play time anyway. If Lou tries to give Floyd more, he'll break down and Murton will wind up playing full time. If by some chance Floyd doesn't break down (as he didn't in '05, for example), then looking at his numbers he's better than Murt in the power categories anyway, and we could use some more pop. This is alot of hubbub about nothing, IMO.
  2. They should destroy tonight. They've got a good shot at beating the Bears next weekend, too. Bears are playing for nothing at this point---no matter what anyone says, it's hard to maintain that edge.
  3. I guess the difference is that we know that Izturis will be horrible offensively and good defensively. Cedeno at least has the chance to improve, particularly under a new coaching staff. Izturis might be inserted into the #2 spot- with very likely bad results. Cedeno, if he were to start, would be relegated to the 8th spot. I don't want Izzy to hit 2nd. Bad move. As for Cedeno, I don't get what you see in him that would tell you he has a chance to improve. Other than the fact that he's young. If that's all it is, then maybe we should put our single-A SS in over Izzy because he has a chance to improve, too. Cedeno's hitting was terrible nearly his entire minor league career, except for one season in Jaxx where he was marginal, and half-seasons in Iowa and the Cubs, where pitchers never saw enough of him to expose his crippling weaknesses at the plate. Once they did, he tanked as always has. He has little if any chance to improve, IMO.
  4. I think he'll be fine as closer. But I don't know Lou will do that. He might do as you say.
  5. Bah these are all the same morons who said the Bears would finish 8-8 and win the North "because someone has to"
  6. Yes, and you can extend that to the entire team. The downward spiral since 2003 has been astonishing. Only the Cubs. The Marlins TRIED to match us and couldn't!
  7. I'd like to see everybody play at least a half of the last 2 games. I don't want to see the injured guys getting 3-5 weeks off before the playoff game. I think it hurt the Bears last year. Good to see Vasher and Todd practiced. I'd like both to get some time this week (especially Johnson). I thought I'd heard a quote somewhere that Vasher thought he was ready to play, but that Lovie was the one keeping him out. Vasher's been saying he can play for more than a week now. Lovie's just making sure he's good to go. I expect him to see action this week.
  8. Blow up as in have a huge year ---- or ---- Blow up as in completely fall apart? Blow up as in have a monster season, of course.
  9. Replacing cedeno with Izturis is at best a lateral move. I would say at worst it's a lateral move-there will likely be a small upgrade offensively (probably around 30-40 points of OPS, with 25-30 points of that coming from OBP) and a decent upgrade defensively. The contract is a different story, but Izturis's 2007 is probably going to be a lateral move at its worst from Cedeno's 2006 campaign. It may be an upgrade over what we got from Cedeno last year, but I hardly imagine Izturis will provide four million dollars worth of upgrades over what Cedeno is capable of this coming year. I would agree with that-I just said that because these posts in these threads are talking about just the upgrades on the field, not really the contracts. Was the upgrade to Cedeno to Izturis worth the money that Izturis commands? No-most likely not. Is SS going to be better this year than it was last year? Almost certainly yes. Cedeno was atrocious at times in the field. Izzy will most certainly be a significant fielding upgrade. As for hitting, I just don't think Cedeno was ever going to be good. Izzy's not either, but he's marginally better than Cedeno. It's more than a lateral upgrade, but the "upgrade" part is mostly defensive. The offense coming from that position will still likely be terrible.
  10. The fact that a starting pitcher takes an inning or two to really settle in has no bearing on what they would do as a reliever. It's two completely different roles, with a completely different approach and mindset.
  11. Since when are there anything but IFs in baseball? The whole game is one big IF. Perhaps you would care to clarify your meaning?
  12. To be honest, I'm getting sick of the overuse of this word too. It doesn't exist in all the world of sports. There's no such animal.
  13. I still agree. I'd like to see a lot of Bradley, too. Does Benson have a 100 yard game yet? I'd love to see about 25 carries for 120 yards from the kid.
  14. IF. Big ifs. If he can actually put in enough time to make a difference. If his skills haven't diminished. If he is actually signed.
  15. Biggest issue has been the lack of OBP in the acquisitions. Here's hoping D Lee brings his high OBP to Wrigley for the full 81 games, thus lifting us off the bottom of the league in OBP and Walks. I still think some other team will jump up, keeping us from making the playoffs. Yes, the NL is weak, but there were still so many others ahead of us, and they're all trying to get better too.
  16. If IP is accompanied by solid effectiveness, than it is extremely important. By itself, it's worthless, just like knowing a guy can throw 98 or that a player is really fast. Marquis' IP went down in Aug/Sept, which was when his ERA tanked big time. He probably would have made the 200 IP if he would have had his August level of production (which admittedly is very very marginal---I'm not trying to defend Marquis here). I think if Marquis reeks from the beginning he won't make 200 IP this year. He'll have to have some level of performance; maybe 1 good outing followed by 2 bad ones, something like that. If he doesn't, he's just going to get pulled too early.
  17. agreed... can't you find a pic with MORE than three shirtless guys plz??? At least photoshop some Cardinals' logos on them or something
  18. I have to be honest here, if I was a Lions fan I would be fuming right now. Why does Millen still have a job? Has anybody had worse drafts than this guy? He is just plain terrible. Yeah I don't see why this is a bad thing. Sure they've got your money already, but that's not going to change. I'd be looking to do anything that shows anyone who cares enough to notice that I'm unhappy as a fan. That team and franchise has been so bad for so long. I can imagine the fans are just sick of it. But didn't they protest last year? And they suck again... It just is something that hasn't proven to be terribly effective. I hear you. But give them a break. If it makes them feel a little better on Christmas Eve, they hey-----let them do it. I'm certainly not looking for a Lions' resurgence

  20. Actually, voting ends tommorow at 11am. So I guess we'll have to concentrate on both. :) Really? Bah, my info was bad! Sorry about that
  21. goony must have voted because Rexaramus has taken a 2 point lead, 38% to 36%.
  22. Floyd will get hurt and Murton will be the full-time starter, anyway. Everyone knows Floyd's body is no longer cooperating with him.
  23. Let's hope he figured it out. Typically, to re-program the slightest mechanical flaw takes 6 weeks to correct and then it becomes a wait and see if he fully processed it. Throwing BP in the Fall/Winter won't give you an idea that he won't go back to what he was comfortable with in '06. The 1st test will during one of his 1st starts and he becomes fatigued on the mound, struggles and gets himself into jams, how he responds to that adversity will determine the 1st test. Some pitchers will go back to what got them there. The 2nd test (depending on if he passes the 1st test) will be during the season probably around the AS break or August when the daily grind of every 5 days drains the pitcher physically and more importantly mentally. You'll never be as fresh as you were at the start of the season. Then if he does pass those tests, whose to say the correction of his mechanics doesn't lead to tipping? For years everyone has been commentiong on Wood's mechanics. He's throwing across his body, he's rushing, he's off balance and it's causing him to fall to the 1st base side, etc. It's not easy to correct mechanics, this article simplifies to overall process too much. Just drink your koolade and everything will be fine. Until April, that is 8-)
  24. Are you referring to this thread, or the media? It's still early in the week. The Bears themselves weren't even practicing/game-planning for Sunday until today. Just in general. All of Monday and Tuesday was dominated by Tank talk. So far, it looks like everybody is ignoring the Lions game, from the team to the media to the fans. It's just a bit concerning. Come on, quit being grouchy and VOTE! 8-) In 30 minutes we can concentrate on next week. Rex still leading by the slimmest of margins.
  25. It's kind of difficult to imagine a pitcher putting in 200 innings if he is truly awful. I think the # of innings is at least partially tied to performance. If a guy comes in and gives up 5 runs immediately every game, I doubt he's going to be left in the rotatation long enough to rack up the innings. If you can get deep into the games enough, then I'd say you are at least putting out performances that are mediocre. When you compare that to what we had last year----with starters getting bombed in the early innings regularly, I guess I would have to go with the mediocre. But it's not particularly exciting, especially because I don't believe our offense will keep up with mediocre starting pitching.
