  1. Because Helton is very good at baseball. So are Mark Prior and Kerry Wood - and they don't have ridiculous contracts. Edit: Actually Helton's played in a lot more games than I thought. but his back is still horrible. It's not going to suddenly get better. dude's power has really disappeared. With the Red Sox, they value his OBP over his power. They have power with Ortiz and Manny. Drew has some power of his own. While Helton's power has declined, his OBP has remained higher than 400 in every season since 1999. If the Rockies eat some of this contract, they'd better be getting something very good in return or it's going to be a rape.
  2. I'm not suprised at being laughed at a little on this (I'm a big boy I can take it). I seriously think this is one of those things that nobody will speak about, but has the potential to have an impact if one of the teams gets too lose down there. It's happened before... when did it happen before? I remember very distinctly when that Atlanta situation happened, all of a sudden the only thing that was being talked about was how he was caught with a hooker, and what would the team do to him, etc. etc. That was the only thing anyone was talking about after that---the only thing the team heard until up to game time. I think it became a HUGE distraction for the Falcons.
  3. My God, I think one reporter asked Moose if he wants to win the game. You have got to be kidding me  This is wall-to-wall Bears tonight, since Indy doesn't arrive until tomorrow.
  4. I think that was Jaws' team too, right? He said something about that today---that they were in strict lockdown and it didn't make any difference they still lost. If the guys go out tonight and maybe tomorrow and live it up a little, I don't think it's going to matter. I just don't want to get to Thursday and hear someone got bailed out of jail, or players have been showing up late for meetings or that kind of crap. I actually don't want it to happen for either team. You win that Super Bowl and the rest of your life you can party. lol, why are you making such a big deal of this? I highly doubt what they do at night will really matter. I'm not suprised at being laughed at a little on this (I'm a big boy I can take it). 5. DirecTV HD subscribers: turn on channel 95. NFL Network crew is doing their first show from Miami in HD. Urlacher interview was just on. Wow---lots of background questions: where are you from, what was it like as a kid, what's it like being in the same line of linebackers as Butkus and Singletary, etc. Lots of stuff you would expect from reporters who haven't covered football very much.
  6. We should win some of these WC games coming up. It's not like we're facing every top team out there. It's the Clippers, Seattle, Utah, Portland, Sacramento, Golden State, Phoenix. Most of these clubs are under .500 No excuses this time, Big Ben or not.
  7. I think we can now say it's officially Super Bowl week 8-) My goodness, this is going to be crazy!
  8. I just find it funny that cable has no problem providing studios and facilities so Joe and his cavalcade of freaks can put on a local-access show whenever they're sober enough, but MLB and the NFL? Let's keep them far away from paying customers. LOL.......ahhhhhh, cable. I do not miss thee 8-)

  10. If that was the deal-breaker, then shame on the cable guys. My goodness, kick off some of those atrocious local-access channels if you have to. That's just stupid =D> Cable pulled this same rigamarole with the NFL Network too. Then they convinced the buying public it was the NFL's fault they weren't going to see their team play on Thursday night. With DirecTV we've had the NFL Network as part of one of the basic packages forever. Yeah----don't be too quick to blame only DirecTV. Look at the entire picture. Cable has a long, long history of being unable to get out of its own way.
  11. Yeah---then there was that Atlanta CB who got picked up with a hooker  Sorry I'm not remembering names very well today. I'd very much just like to get to the game with both teams intact and focused, ready to play. That way it becomes about the football game instead of some weird off-the-field issue.
  12. I'd rather have a good pitcher  True. My feeling is that if you have a pitcher on a one-year deal who sucks, the team is more willing to DFA him than a pitcher on a three-year deal. If Marquis sucks, but Marshall or Guzman is doing well in Iowa, the Cubs are still likely to stick with Marquis due to the longer financial commitment. If you had a pitcher, ala Weaver, on a one year deal under the same scenario, the team is more willing to cut bait and go with the youngster. Nightmare scenario. Yeah, that would be bad. Larry's tied to this one----he's the guy who said he "found something and it's correctable." Alrighty then, do your "magic" Larry. We're watching. :)
  13. I know. Every time we play those guys we lose a player. Jesus, it was bad enough when the Heat were winning. Now they suck and still beat us up. :?
  14. I doubt this will make any difference whatsoever. Its not so much on when they choose their gameplan, but what they gameplan their plays to be. And we'll see their ability to execute on Sunday. I suppose. Wasn't there a player who never showed for the actual game last time the Super Bowl was in Miami? I'll always worry about that kind of stuff. Young guys, on top of the world---temptation can derail someone double quick.
  15. Wow, thats actually pretty lame. All he did was point back. Who really made a big deal about the taunting? Christ. I mean 5,000 to Reggie Bush is pocket change, but its still pretty ridiculous. If he had another year of eligibility, he'd be able to go back to college and make up that money in no time. We'll see how nonchalant Reggie is when they strip the Heisman from his mantle. The innocent, good-guy days of Mr. Bush are about to come to an end. He's was whoring himself out against NCAA rules for his entire college career. Why the Reggie hate? I hate to break it to you, but he's not the only player in College Football getting paid. What hate? Just because I'm pointing out facts about the guy that show him in a less-than-favorite light doesn't mean I hate the guy. As for the "everyone's doing it" theory, I'll never buy into that. Strip anyone who's caught of their eligibility. I'm not on a Reggie-only crusade.

  17. No. They don't. But their columns aren't meant to be read, so really that's your mistake. True-one of them got posted on a message board yesterday that I took a look at (my mistake) and one was in my paper this morning. I guess I'll avoid any more Chicago articles from now on, unless they are talking about the Cubs :D. Echoing what others have said. Many in the Chicago media make their living by pissing off Chicago fans. Not a suprise they're trying to dig at Colts' fans now. It's their way. Just try to ignore them.
  18. And yet an injury ravaged U of I team with a coach that is nothing special without Bill Self's kids just beat IU. Yes they did. We'll see them again though, on their way to the NIT. Not sure I'd be on my high horse if I was an IU fan. You've got to dig pretty far back into that nostalgic past to find any glory. As for the future, I doubt there will be any IU national titles coming, maybe forever.
  19. I'd rather have a good pitcher
  20. Like trade ARod to the Cubs! I'm curious who the Sox are going to give up for him and how much they are willing to pick up salary wise. Me too. They're building a powerhouse over there. I'm not familiar with where the Rockies are as a franchise----stocking up on prospects or attempting to acquire major leage quality talent. Also, just to throw it out there: Helton is 33 and his numbers have been on a downtrend the past few seasons (though still obviously good).
  21. Colts showing more focus early. They're not arriving in Miami until Monday, have curfews set for every day, and have already gone through their game prep last week. Bears treating it like a typical SB trip: light practice last week, arriving Sunday, no curfews that I've heard about, and won't start installing their gameplan until after media day (or so I'm hearing). I think I like the Colts approach better. Some people go to South Beach and never come back.
  22. When will we know the severity of Big Ben's injury? Today? Yeah, I know they said sprained knee.........it's never official until the MRIs. Looked much worse than that, unfortunately. I know Wallace hasn't been all we expected but I'd still not want to lose him.
  23. Steinbrenner might just have to take steps to stop this, just like he did with ARod.
  24. Gotta have a short memory man. '07 *WILL* be better than that. And that's coming from a guy who doesn't always take the optimistic view.
  25. Bears NFC Championship gear just arrived at my door 8-) I'll be tooling around in Packerland reminding them of why their glory years are now over :P
