  1. I'm about to shoot up either way.
  2. I'm saving that article. Next year, when people start posting some ya-hoo's prediction as if its proof about something, I'm going to whip it out.
  3. Look at the market. Market value for Z is easily in the upper teens per year over a long term deal. I'll bet Z would sign with the Cubs happily if he was simply offered market value for a top tier pitcher. No. The problem here is that Hendry blew his wad and now can't meet the market for his one ace starter (presumably).
  4. Hmmmm.....way fewer ABs in '06. Was he possibly nursing an injury?
  5. Ditto. Gave up nothing, got nothing in return.
  6. See, that's the problem with all these crazy backloaded deals..And to think with all that money we spent I still don't feel as us being WS contenders. Yep. Just think what happens when Z is dealt for prospects, leaving us with a cadre of overpriced mediocre vets and prospects who aren't ready yet. Cub Hell. Coming to your living room.
  7. This definitely has the potential to turn into Maddux part deux. Don't worry, after Z goes somewhere and wins a World Series I'm sure he'll be happy to spend his final couple years with us.
  8. That's a real good point.
  9. Well, another experienced pitcher the Cardinals wanted just went somewhere else :D
  10. He might be maxxed out already. Z wants the kind of money that other teams build their entire rosters on. If Hendry loses Zambrano, the Grim Reaper cometh.
  11. It's better than nothing. I'll take it  The writer seems to like the Cubs, too. Bonus.
  12. Why? Pierre played well for us and if he had a lineup last year he is numbers probably would have been much better. I don't think it works to take Pierre's overall numbers and conclude he played well. It matters more to me what a player does when the team is still in contention, as opposed to garbage time. Pierre was terrible in April and May, which is when this team still had a shot. In particular, he was horrid when Lee was still playing. Plus his arm is the worst I've ever seen on a center fielder, bar none. It's truly amazing how atrocious he is throwing the baseball. I'm not necessarily arguing for Pierre here, just asking a question. Would you say then that Ramirez had a bad year last year? Understood. There are plenty of people who are down on Ramirez right now. I'm actually not very happy with the way he played when we really needed him. He may have had a good overall year statistically, but I do think there's something to the arguments that Ramirez failed when the team needed him most. But, that said, he's a power bat and I've seen him hit great in the playoffs, on this team. And I know what this club went through to get a 3rd baseman that was decent.
  13. I like to hate the haters. When the Bears reached the Super Bowl despite Joe Buck's insistence that we sucked, it was a supremely satisfying moment for me as a Bear fan. It makes me side with my team even more when Gracie or someone else bashes us. Unfortunately with the Cubs, they're usually right.
  14. Yes, yes he was. He also was a dick about the cork incident with Sammy. Grace is the epitomy of the know nothing, ex-jock broadcaster/color guy. And to make matters worse, he isn't even funny. Sammy was asking for it though. I agree with some of your points there, but Sosa embarassed himself more by doing it, than grade did by poking fun at it. I can't remember the specifics because I don't watch Dbacks baseball, but my understanding was Gracie took shots at the Cubs for quite awhile, not just during the Sammy corked-bat flap.
  15. Why? Pierre played well for us and if he had a lineup last year he is numbers probably would have been much better. 16. Yeah I know. We really needed that game too. 2-5 on the road trip would have just furthered our lack of confidence away from the United Center. I thought what the Bulls did well last night was continue to attack the basket most of the night. This is really key, IMO----we need to crash that hoop, get to the line. Pick our spots for fast breaks instead of trying to make our entire game based on the fast break. The game was in HD on ESPN so needless to say, it was a nice way to end the weekend ;)
  17. Don't expect Gracie to be nice when he does his first Cubs game...
  18. It shows how desperately the Suns need Nash to be successful. Still, it's a road win against a decent club even without Nash. I'll take it. Doesn't totally make up for that Warriors nightmare though.
  19. That's important. If the Bears final offer to Briggs was, in fact, $5.5 mil/yr as reported, then it looks like Briggs is as good as gone.
  20. Nope. Worse, actually. Last April Miller made a play with the Brewers that still sticks in my mind. On a medium-depth flyball to left-center Miller tagged up at first base and advanced to second base standing up. That blew my mind. That was the moment when the full awfulness of Juan Pierre's throwing arm became clear to me. It's little moments of horror like these that define our lives as Cub fans, unfortunately.
  21. I think it's because Dwayne Wade lacks leadership. Signed, the Dirkenator ;) Actually, there's like 3 hall of famers on the floor right now, maybe 4, and a good portion of the 100 level seats could not doubt be had for face value. Amazing. I know people criticize the Bulls for selling out to corporate packages and what-not. But at least Chicago finds a way to fill up its stadium on a regular basis.
  22. Maybe for the younger pitchers, or the ones where Barrett just hasn't had enough time to build up a relationship.
  23. Just give us the NL pennant right now.
  24. Watching Spurs @ Heat on ABC. Amazing how many empty seats there are on a Sunday afternoon. Dwayne Wade isn't enough of a draw to even fill all the first row seats in the stadium. Truly amazing. Are Miami fans the worst in the world? Sure seems that way.
  25. It looks like he's done that a few times.
