  1. I could live with that OPS if he's putting up his .355 career OBP, or better yet, the .365-.367 he had in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Seconded. Who cares if all he does is walk and get singles. We have other guys to get extra base hits. Eckstein's was only .694 last year. Yeah, if Theriot can get on base in the upper .300's, I don't see why his lack of power should be a concern. My point is, we already know Derosa's not going to break .340 OBP. Why not give the kid with more upside a chance? We know that he is not going to break .340? Considering last year was .357, I'm not sure how we know he's not going to break that-even if he has a lesser year this year he still has a shot of breaking that number, and even though he's not hitting well at all he's having a good OBP spring. He did that @ 31 years old, playing in one of the best hitting environments in baseball. Last time he was in the NL, he posted .293
  2. Lou's Grade: I
  3. My Gawd, I'm still hearing whining over Cuse not making it in. Alright, fine -- the process isn't perfect. Next time win a couple more games so you don't put yourself on the bubble, kk? thx.

  5. I suppose Derosa will get the job out of ST, but I'd rather see Theriot. To my mind, Derosa has proven he can have a career year when put in the ideal hitter situation. Too bad he can't play for Texas and post his numbers to the Cubs. Theriot will hopefully be the starter by June, leaving Derosa where he has always belonged: coming off the bench as a sub infielder.
  6. They'll just go with Miller -- keep Gooz @ Iowa, wait for Miller or Marquis to start blowing it. Gooz'll be up sooner rather than later. Someone's going to have a bad, bad year out of Z,Lilly,Marquis,Hill, & Miller. It just stands to reason, one will royally suck (and hopefully ONLY one). And that'll be Gooz's chance.
  7. The problem with bringing Guzman north as a reliever is his innings will go way down. That's a significant concern, IMO.
  8. I doubt that has anything to do with it. It could have been a deal with the Mariners and he'd still be in the picture. These aren't 12 year olds. They have actual rationalizations for the decisions they make. They might not be right, but they aren't based on petty nonsense like that. This comes straight from Paul Sullivan the Cubs beat writer. I also heard Joe Cowley, Sox beat writer, say the exact same thing about Aardsma (both were on the radio, one after the other, speaking to Laurence Holmes as he was in for vacationing Mike Murphy). Doesn't mean anything. Paul Sullivan is the kind of guy who will look for any tabloid-style nonsense to write about. First off, demoting a guy doesn't admit one side got the better end of the trade. Especially not if both are demoted. The Cubs might keep him, but it would be because they foolishly think he's decent. Agreed. The deal was a minor one, essentially junk for junk. The need to 'save face' should not be a factor.
  9. How has he produced? Wouldn't it make sense to actually wait until the season starts before we decide he has produced tremendously? Or for that matter, if his comeback is successful or not? He was signed to a minor league deal, and required to produce in ST or he wouldn't make the major league roster. In Sammy's case, his ST production actually makes the difference between washing out and getting a shot with the big league club.
  10. Not sure how dumb it was. He traded Aardsma, who doesn't have much upside at all, for Cotts, who sucks but had one year where he somehow pitched well. Eh, it's trading junk for junk mostly. Oh well. Kudos to Piniella for his comments. Those words were *not* for Cotts, who is finished in all likelihood. They were for all the other players on this team, who if they haven't already are now realizing Lou will most definitely notice and call out poor performance. Yay!
  11. see, the Bears DO need a WR now Ah Tennessee, where really bad Bears WRs go to still suck. Hey now, this is no endorsement of Gage, but Bobby Wade played quite well for us. I was strongly hoping he'd come back. But, of course, like everything else this offseason, it made sense to do it so Reinfeldt didn't do it. In 2005 Bobby Wade had 10 fumbles in about 40 offensive/special teams touches. Thats nearly 1 fumble every 4 touches. He meant "us" as in Titans, he's from Tennessee. Exactly. Last year for the Titans, he had 33 catches for 461 yards - a 14 yard per catch average. Better get his pro bowl invite ready.
  12. The soft underside of our pitching staff is showing a little bit these past 2 days... Not really Rich Hill so much, but all the other guys. Cotts is just junk, at least right now.
  13. Not for anywhere near the cash the Redskins paid. Allowing Snyder to vastly overpay for Archuleta was a fantastic Angelo move last offseason.
  14. Blah, can't believe they lost to Memphis. I still don't like Gasol. He always looks like he just rolled out of bed.
  15. I'd rather see the best players be the starters, for a change. Miller's going to net us some midline prospect either way. Gooz is better, IMO. I dunno maybe that will change. I'm doubting it.
  16. Hawk, DJ & Sox marketing man Brooks Boyer Really? They aren't pissing me off as much as I remember them being. Maybe they're waiting for the regular season. Hawk has been pretty quiet for about 2 innings. That's quality broadcasting right there. He said maybe 4 words last inning. Not that I'm complaining. Not that I make a habit of watching White Sox games, but I've heard several times where DJ simply takes over. Sometimes for an entire inning. He seems to just shut up, and sometimes it makes you wonder if he left the booth. Maybe he just likes DJ now and wants him to get more exposure (though certainly their relationship didn't start out very smoothly).
  17. Somehow Mia-OH scraps back into it by halftime. Shouldn't last though.
  18. Damn, I'm sorry to be missing that CREI/NV game. Wisc took their time, but finally they're taking it over.
  19. They're still down by 7 and SUCKING.
  20. Wisconsin'll lose this thing yet.
  21. Wow, ND. Just terrible.
  22. LOL, what a dud Wisconsin is, criminey. I can tell you it's just dead silent at work right now. Nobody's saying NUTHIN' around here.
  23. I know. I watched Sammy the entire time. He looked like he lost a few pounds later on, but shriveled? That's just a blatant lie. If it was just Rozner, I'd slough it off. But the media hatred in general for Sosa is just too much. Yeah, so the guy wouldn't give him an interview after he tried to crucify him. I wouldn't have either. What a joke these guys are.
  24. Shammy? Helped get 5 managers fired? Christ, what did Sosa do to Rozner? Kill his kids? Give me a freaking break.
  25. Ummmm, what? Hardly a peep? Nothing that I can recall accusing the Red Sox of lying about his return. Maybe I missed it. Well, I think in Nomar's case everyone started to blame him instead of the organization. But I could be wrong. That's the way it seemed to me. Maybe the Cubs just need better PR so they can make their players look bad instead of the front office
