  1. Is he? Yes. His history tends to say otherwise. But, at times, he has been better than that. Marquis is a big risk the Cubs are taking. That's really the bottom line. If it pays off, I'll be the first one who cheers.
  2. ....which is probably why he pulled over. Yes, it's a bad thing. Maybe Tony should visit a clinic or something.
  3. Crap. i don't see why that's so upsetting. turner runs nothing special, but with a defense like the bears have, there's no reason to get super cute on offense. The OC is always an easy target for fans' ire. Turner has taken what was the worst offense in the league, and raised them up to #15th overall last year (IIRC). He's getting little or no help from Lovie, because Lovie doesn't know offense. So it's all him. He's doing a good, though not spectacular, job.
  4. The problem I see is that people attach some sort of stigma to being optioned back to AAA. OK, I'll buy that, but ultimately that's got to be put aside for the good of the player. More practice sessions in Arizona aren't what this guy needs. He's been doing way too much of that over the years anyway, IMO. He needs to be pitching in actual game situations. He should be sent to AAA for now.
  5. .093 used to be legal. It's a first offense. Eh -- yeah it's disappointing, but I don't think the Cards should make Holy Hay over it
  6. See, I can get behind this. That was a horrible trade. But this team isn't destined for a first round exit because it didn't get up for the Grizzlies or Clippers. I think getting homecourt advantage in the first round will be far more important to their playoff performance than how they do against mediocre teams like the Clippers in March. Well put. Alright, I'll go there. I'm confused by the new playoff seeding though. What exactly must the Bulls do to get home court in that first round series? Pass Cleveland? I've heard you can be a 4 seed and lose homecourt to a 5th seed (which seems to defeat the purpose of seeding) or similar stuff.
  7. We had plenty of questions this time last year. In fact, I believe we actually had *MORE* questions in April of '06 than we do now. 1) Clark. Can he still play? Even if he can, can he stop sucking? 2) Grossman. Should Griese start? Won't Grossman lose us more games than he wins? 3) Can Tillman overcome the Smith fiasco? Shouldn't RMJ just start over him? 4) Speaking of RMJ: will he be out of jail long enough to play a game as a Bear? 5) Will Chris Harris and Daneal Manning be good enough @ FS? 6) Muhammed: can he bounce back from one of his worst seasons as a pro? 7) Can Rashied Davis even play, much less be a #3 WR? 8) Will Berrian or Bradley be the #2----and will either one be halfway decent? That's more than this year, by my count. But I do understand there are challenges for this team, and it will be tougher.
  8. Yep. Me too. I dunno if Archuleta is really an answer for us, but I don't mind giving up only a 6th rnd pick for him. Am I wrong in saying that he isn't much of a play maker? At this point you are probably not wrong. Very early in his career he would come up and make some great hits. I think that's how he made his name. For the past 2 seasons though he's been really absent. Lovie must think he can either get back to his old glory years, or at least provide some veteran leadership if MB is let go. IMO it's more likely he'll do the latter than the former. We'll see.
  9. Retire. Most feel he has a bright future in the coaching ranks. Or maybe someone else will give him a flyer for a little more money than the Bears. He has a couple options, though as you point out his NFL opportunities are becoming limited.
  10. I'm going off the original intention of this team, which was to at least make the conference finals. That's the standard. Can't simply shift the standard and say they're doing alright midway through the season. Can you honestly say this team will make the conference finals? no, but could you honestly say that the "weak" East would win 2 of the last 3 championships? You never know in a 7 game series. The Bulls won, what, 5 or 6 in a row before this little 2 game skid? Why the panic? I realize they have squandered opportunities to pass Cleveland, but you can't expect the team to win every single game The schedule starts to get tougher now. These were the games we needed to dominate. Now it's no longer home/home against BOS, then PHI, then MEM. More like IND,then DET, then CLE. How will they fare against the better teams when a club like Memphis makes us look bad and a non-playoff team like LAC just destroys us? That's why the panic----it's the manner of the losses, and against whom. But ultimately I'm not actually panicing. I'm just pointing out that this does not look like the contender I expected this season. I'm really not going to be all that upset if the Bulls exit, say, 2nd round. I haven't thought they were better than that for months now, though obviously I root for them.
  11. Hmmm, that website you posted sure seems like it's for any subscriber, not just new ones. I think it's cool that they do that, too. Don't know about "sticking it" to DirecTV, since it basically means they're giving up on actually offering the real deal to their subscribers like DirecTV is. They're just trying like hell to avoid a mass exodus of their own subscribers to DirecTV, that's all. And who could blame them?
  12. Hahaha. Teddy Bear Lou is almost completely gone, and the season hasn't even started yet 8-) What's the over/under on # of games before Lou's first big blowup? I'll go 50. That'll get us safely past the honeymoon period.
  13. that depends on what you mean by power arm. hill tops out at around 92 but he will strike out a lot of hitters. if they stay healthy, both z & hill should have over 200 k's in 2007. Hill's not a power arm, despite the K's. He's a curveball pitcher. Z is a power arm. Wood is a power arm. Prior was a power arm. But Hill is not. I don't view Hill as a power pitcher, though his K's are great. To me, only Z has a power arm in the rotation. Hill,Marquis,Lilly,Miller are all going to have to rely on pitching craftiness to a certain degree. Not that it's bad. Could be a good thing over the long haul if it nets us more innings without having to dip into AAA and AA.

  15. even though he's not hitting much and it's only spring training but he does have 8 bb in 29 ab's so far along with a .405 obp. if he stays healthy i dont see why he couldnt put up .350 & .450 for a .800 ops in 2007. Obviously it's all guessing right now, and I'm rooting for Derosa, but he just looks like he's ready to tank. IMO. Because he's had 29 "poor" at bats this spring (even though his OBP is .405)? Or was this a prognostication by your Jump to Conclusions Mat? It's pretty much baseless guesswork. I just think he's been marginal his entire career, until he had one decent season @ 31 under ideal conditions, then he got a big contract. Doesn't seem like there are many examples of players who suddenly discover themselves in a hitter's paradise @ 31, then move to a less hitter-friendly environment and continue to be great.
  16. He's unlikely to regain enough power to rely on throwing his fastball by hitters. He's going to have to get hitters out by actually pitching well. We really only have one power arm left in the rotation, unless Gooz is given the green light. Hopefully it somehow leads to less injuries. I'll take more consistent 200 inning pitchers over power, as long as they get their outs. I think we've all learned being Cub fans that short term power pitching success doesn't equal team success.
  17. If it was just one random loss, I'd agree. This was a bad loss, at home, against a team we need to be able to beat if we're going to live up to the "contender" tag placed on us at the beginning of the season. It was also the 2nd loss in a row, against marginal/bad competition. So no, I don't think it's overreaction at this point.
  18. What the hell was this crap? I'm sticking with my original prediction from the first road trip of the year: early exit in the playoffs, as per usual.
  19. Hmmmm, I guess it's just because of the money that they would now cut Brown? I'm pretty sure Lovie and Angelo are acutely aware of what he means to this defense when healthy. Go back and look at the numbers: when Brown goes down, our run D begins to suck *IMMEDIATELY*
  20. Why do people keep saying this? Is it being reported in a newspaper or something? DirecTV most definitely DOES carry Comcast. And they aren't as stingy with it as cable is, either. I get it all the way up here in Madison  Our local cable company, Charter, would drop dead, kill 50 children, throw up all over Hillary Clinton, and sell their souls to the devil 10 times over before they'd give Madison residents Comcast.
  21. I'm glad we picked him up for significantly less money. So that's good. But he's heading into his 7th year. This is a player with considerable mileage. His numbers have been declining for the past 2 seasons. That covers both Washington & St. Louis. I'll buy into it because it's what----$2.7 mil/yr? That's not all that bad.
  22. Wuertz for Closer baybee! Really? I'd rather not.
  23. He can't hit righties. We might as well get used to it. Whats his purpose then? Hopefully? Bench IF

  25. I'd rather find a young player with upside rather than pay for Archuleta's retirement.
