  1. The fact that Pie needed to stay on the bench in that situation just further illustrates why Cedeno is a big concern. You can't throw Pie out there as a pinch runner every time. Sometimes, it's got to be Ronny. And he's brutal. I try to be nice, but this kid should be spared further embarrassing himself and sent back to AAA where he belongs.
  2. THIS....is beyond doubt. And THIS has been the cause of the problems through the years. Again...as the original poster stated....with a very few exceptions. Those of you in you in your 20's and 30's....buckle up....this team has been breaking peoples hearts for 90+ years. What you are seeing is not new. Its been the norm forever. That they havent gotten lucky and stumbled into a World Series along the way is astonishing. We're cursed. It's got to be.
  3. Lou not going to be much happier with the base running after today, that's for sure!
  4. He just cost us a game, and it won't be the last. He's not the only concern, but he's pretty high on the list. Every time he gets in the game it's badness all around.
  5. This club sure doesn't look like it's going to magically start hitting. I will say that. God am I ever glad I didn't pay for EI. Talk about $200 -ish bucks down the toilet.
  6. Lou will find a way to put Ronny on a bus. Dusty did everything in his power to keep Neifi a Cub. There's a difference.
  7. LaRussa gets more wins like this. If he's drunk he sure does know more baseball then many do when they are sober. The Cards just jimmied a win because they know the game, and we obviously don't. I've never heard of that rule -- but all the Cards do. Cub players obviously don't. There's your difference in organizations right there.
  8. No. It's an out because even on a walk you are entitled to take a base, but if you overslide then all bets are off an you can be tagged out. Ronny took more than he was entitled to.
  9. thanx. it's official. Ronny must go.
  10. I'll take you one step further. Ronny Cedeno is a crappy baseball player, and has no business in the major leagues. I'm sure he's a great kid. But he's the Sanjaya of Cubbie-dom. He needs to be gone. You've got Angel Guzman at AAA and this guy is in the majors, for Christ's sake.
  11. Alright. I've never heard of it before. Must be a rule then. That's the risk with having Cedeno run. His baseball IQ is about the same as a water boy.
  12. Hmmm, I can't see the game but surely on a walk it's a dead ball situation.
  13. WTH is goin' on? LaRussa trying to gt Izzy some extra time to rest?
  14. LOL, if Jacque would have K'd this place would have melted down
  15. Take the 'premium' out of the url and it's a regular link. Whew. I didn't rail on Hill. I was definitely thinking that his late season '06 doesn't *necessarily* translate into '07 success though. I thought the same of Theriot. Happily, it looks like both are on track as of now. Hope it stays that way. There's still more upside to explore with both guys, IMO.
  16. They better go over 4, that's all.
  17. Cashman looking like a genius right now. Seemed like the entire city of NY wanted ARod gone after last year. IIRC, it was Cashman who came out and said they wouldn't necessarily be unloading him.
  18. I don't see how someone couldn't be concerned. The guy is sucking. Just because he's pulled out of it in other seasons doesn't mean he will this year. He's also never been quite *this* bad in April, IIRC. Sure, I'm hoping he'll snap to it. I'm definitely concerned though. I think his velocity looks alright -- that's something good at least. Doesn't look to me like he might be injured or anything (knock on wood..........bad pun).
  19. Cool. I also remember a stats guy on Murph in the offseason who predicted a breakout year for Rich on the basis that his minor league numbers are some of the best in recent memory. The early returns are, he was right on. I don't remember his name though. iirc, he had the best jamesian game score last season, including sanchez's non-no. and yes, john dewan, a guy i don't usually like to hear from as he seems to turn away from meaningful stats and call attention to meaningless ones. I was pretty excited after listening to him. I make no secret I don't really follow the minors, so I wasn't aware of Hill's dominance (well, maybe a little but he was talking like Hill's minor league career was one of the greatest.......ever).
  20. Ooooh, the Sosa haters on this board are busily preparing their responses to this one.
  21. not picking on any particular poster - it's just fun to read this stuff given how the kid is throwing these days I hope that wasn't me

  23. who was the inside threat in the last bulls dynasty? Both Jordan and Pippen were able to post up. Thus taking higher pecentage shots. No one one this current team can post up. Therefore, both Jordan and Pippen were inside threats. Just like at the deadline there was talk of the bulls trading for Bonzi Wells because he was a guard who could post up and could provide a consistent inside threat. How often do you see anyone on this team back someone down like Jordan and Pippen did? Yeah, if we start comparing this team to Jordan's Bulls we're going to find the '07 ballclub falls short in more than one way. I think we should all remember that this team is not done building yet. A few sportswriters have noted that we still have a good cap situation, and we're getting another lottery pick this year. In my mind I'll be happy if we can vanquish the Heat and then take the Pistons deep. I'm not holding out much hope of beating both of those teams in succession this year. If we did that, I would be incredibly shocked -- pleasantly so. But this ballclub's not going anywhere for awhile. I don't see us sinking downward for a few years. Regardless of what happens this year, we should be back and even stronger next year. I don't think you can say that about either the Heat or the Pistons. Both are getting older, not better.
  24. Most encouraging thing I saw last night from Hill: At around the 6th inning, the Braves switched tactics and began swinging at a lot of first and second pitches, hoping to catch Rich trying to get an early fastball strike. Rich then adjusted his tactic, throwing more curves on the first pitch --- FOR STRIKES. This kid's good, folks. He's real good. And he's all ours 8-)
