  1. more than 2003? I can't speak for him, but for me, at this point; yes. It's just so much fun to see these young guys doing the job. Christ, this is really alot of fun. GO CUBS!!!!
  2. 7 pitches for Webb. Way to get into the bullpen! Ouch.
  3. Since we'll need to play small ball with this lineup anyway, Sori decides why wait to start bunting?
  4. Consider it won and go about our day? Sure, I'm all for it!
  5. a post that captures why casinos make tons and tons of money Casinos make lots and lots of money because their patrons don't understand regression to the mean. Apparently, other folks don't either. For a board that has so many posters preaching objective analysis, they sure are terribly subjective and biased when it comes to their anointed villains and persona non gratas. Gambler's fallacy alert! Gambler's fallacy alert! Casinos make money because people simply lose more than they win? They can't be building 'em like they are because everyone's raping the house, that's for sure.
  6. Wind blowing in, and DBacks are low-power. If Marquis can't pitch well this game, we really are in trouble with him.
  7. I think he pitched recently, so that's not too much of a suprise. Demp should be ready tomorrow I assume.
  8. I heard it on Murph over lunch. Fonty hitting 3rd. Not much can be done given our current situation, so I'm not blaming anyone, but let's just say this game will be........interesting. I do like that Lou plugs Moore right into the starting lineup. Why not?
  9. So you essentially care only because Bonds is really good before/without steroids? No, I care because he wouldn't be breaking the record without cheating to get there. And the last thing baseball needs coming out of the steroid era (hopefully) is to have a steroid cheat as its face and image.
  10. I agree with the posters that say Bonds is a total jerk, but you do have to give him some credit as a great ballplayer. Before we get all excited about Arod breaking Bonds' HR record, do we have any proof that Arod isn't using something? We are in an era where every batting and pitching record has a cloud of suspicion hanging over it. His physique? Isn't that proof enough? Unless he is using a lean mass roid, but I believe that only benefits track athletes and such. There isn't an inkling that ARod has used roids. There's very solid evidence, almost to the level of total proof even, that Bonds did. If someone comes out with solid evidence ARod cheated, then of course I'll be against him breaking big time records. Of course.
  11. None of the Bonds apologist reasons make sense to me. It's all about the HR record, people. If Bonds wasn't about to become *THE* de-facto king of all baseball, the man, the guy who will be the face of all baseball until ARod breaks the record? Believe me, I wouldn't give two craps about the fact that he cheated. None of the other players who juiced are about to break the biggest record in all of sports. It therefore doesn't matter to me that others cheated. Like I said I wouldn't care about Bonds either if it wasn't for the record. I have nothing against Barry personally, I could care less if he's a jerk to reporters. Actually, I find some of his snide comments funny and mildly entertaining. No problem with his bad attitude. Big deal, he's not the first and won't be the last. It just really, really matters to me that the new King Of Baseball will be a proven cheat. And I think that's an incredibly valid reason to not like the fact that he's breaking the record. That said, I've accepted he's going to break it. But I don't accept he's done it legitimately. That's all, thx. Not wishing injury on the guy either.
  12. That's probably rather optimistic. Carp's no spring chicken anymore, and he's had arm injuries in the past. I feel pretty comfortable saying he won't pitch meaningfully in '08, either. We're coming up on August already.
  13. Agreed. I think we need to go out and get a real power bat now. Yes, we've needed power for awhile, but now it's critical IMHO.
  14. I wouldn't mind it, but again that's a rather large loss in power considering Floyd's a gimp, Rammy needs rest, and Lee is in suspension. We now need a power bat, ladies & gents.
  15. Not really. It doesn't matter how many times a player goes up and down during the year, it's still just one option. Yeah, I didn't realize that until this year either. Cubbies can shuffle to their heart's content if it's the same players being brought up & down. We have done it with different players a bit though. At any rate, I'm happy this is finally happening. Having Dempster back should cascade back through the bullpen, allowing Marmol to get some more rest. Maybe that's why Lou has been using him so much lately -- he knew help was on the way?
  16. Actually, the Cards have screwed this one up quite a bit. From not getting an MRI when he got his extension, to not having surgery when he first got the bone chips in his elbow, there are a lot of Cards fans not too happy with Dr. Paletta. Looks like they did mess this one up, kinda Cubbie-style. But Jocketty's clearly been one of the best GMs in the NL over the past several years.
  17. So how long is Ward out, anyone really know yet? With Floyd gimpy, Ward out -- there goes our bench power. All gone. I would guess with Jones heating up this pretty much nixes any chance of trading the Jockster. The power's got to come from somewhere, and Lee & ARam isn't enough.
  18. I gotta hand it to him, that's a nicely sarcastic comment. I'd like to know who "they" are, and when "they" said it, and "where". He creates lies just to BE an egotistic moron. Who's stupid enough to throw one back anyway? It can net you a brand new car, maybe 2 brand new cars, plus tax, plus insurance for 2 years. You're just looking for reasons to hate Barry. In case you weren't aware, Cubs fans in the bleachers yell at the opposing players all game talking to them, etc. I'm willing to bet my car that he was pestered like any other player  Well, even if the fans in the left field bleachers were heckling him and said they'd throw it back, he has to be pretty stupid if he didn't realize his homeruns were hit to right field and center field...not where those fans would have been. He probably was just making it up. I just thought it was an interesting, sort of funny comment. I'm still not recognizing Bonds' faux home run title. Not ever.
  19. I gotta hand it to him, that's a nicely sarcastic comment.
  20. good call. That really gets under your skin, doesn't it. Sorry dude, I say what I feel. It was looking real bad at the time. So I was wrong, I'm a big boy I can take it. Can you? Clearly it's your skin, I'm getting under. I'm happy our team won. And contrary to earlier this year, even if we're losing by one in the 8th, I think we're gonna win. Think what you want, I just thought it was a good call. How so? You were the one who jumped all over me. Why all the "stop posting like that" nonsense if everything's hunky-dory? You don't think I'm glad we won? That's silly. I'm clearly not the same kind of fan you are, and you have trouble dealing with that. So be it.
