  1. Titans looked absolutely atrocious yesterday. The running game was completely shut down (largely thanks to the offensive line, I didn't see one hole all day for any of the running backs) and the defense looked terrible. For as much as Jerry Gray talked about bringing back a similar style defense to the late 90s/early 2000s Titan teams, this defensive style looks a whole lot more like Chuck Cecil's - corners playing very soft, basically nothing but 4-man rushes, and hoping we don't get beat deep. I'm really starting to like Munchak and Palmer, but I'm quickly losing my faith in Gray and he was one of the hires I initially liked. Locker actually looked pretty good in a very conservative gameplan - he's a really good decision maker out there. If he could just get his accuracy together, he'd be one of the top young QBs in the league. That said, shaky accuracy for a QB is a pretty big deal.
  2. That's more depressing than any hyperbole I could make up about this offseason. I really hope that's not true. I have no problem with it if the rest of his post is accurate about pursuing Upton and legitimately good pitchers. There's really only one clear upgrade that would even be possible (3B) anyway and the options there are limited.
  3. College Gameday is in Knoxville this week! Finally a Tennessee/Florida game that's meaningful - the winner of this game has a very realistic shot at contending in the East. I really like Tennessee's chances. It'll be tough to pull out a win, but I think Florida is going to struggle to contain the Hunter/Patterson/Rivera group. Defensively, I think the best strategy will be to blitz Driskell heavily and hope to confuse/pressure him into mistakes. We're probably going to give up a couple big plays on blown coverages, but hopefully we can limit them and make up for the ones we do make by creating some turnovers. Hopefully the stadium will be packed out to and loud to add to Driskell's confusion.
  4. Who buried Tagliabue alive?
  5. Tennessee's kicking game is absolutely atrocious. Hope it doesn't cost us a game or two this year.
  6. Young is becoming a definite start for me. Tate is as well if Arian is more injured than they're letting on. Like I said to Smack, I like Locker's matchup the most, but NFL start #1 vs Belichick is a scary thought fantasy-wise.
  7. Thanks! Yeah, I noticed Arian was banged up. I'm hoping he misses, but it looks really unlikely. Hillis does have TD potential. I have been planning to start Smith, but the matchups scare me between Smith and Fitz. I don't like the idea of Locker in his first NFL start against Belichick, though.
  8. Haha, nope - it's a standard 10 team league. It was an auction draft that my internet crapped out just before it started and the computer decided I didn't need to bid more than $1 for any player. If you want a good laugh, my team is listed in the "Rate my FF team" thread - it's the worst fantasy team I've ever seen.
  9. I need to start 2 of these and I have 1 WR spot and 1 Flex spot open (feel free to laugh at me): Titus Young v STL Greg Little v Philly Kendall Wright v NE Ben Tate v Miami Peyton Hillis v Atlanta I'm leaning toward Little for sure for lack of better options for Weeden to throw to in Cleveland. I'm also leaning toward Young because of the Detroit offense and the St Louis defense, but Wright and Tate are kind of tempting. Also: Alex Smith @ GB Fitzpatrick @ NYJ Locker v NE
  10. Ouch, that would make for a hefty strategy change for me.
  11. I've been doing this for 2-3 years now (at least) and it's very successful. I'm in 4 leagues this year and in every one, my last pick has been a defense. I don't even try for any stud defenses anymore, partially because of unpredictable variance and partially because I'd rather have the better offensive player and go with merry-go-round defenses.
  12. The number of open spots is why I draft more than 1 RB, obviously, but there are fewer good QBs than RBs and the RBs tend to be more volatile (i.e. Peterson was a no-brainer #1 pick last year and I've seen him in the late 2nd/3rd rounds this year, CJ is similar but to a lesser extent, etc). I should add that this idea ends pretty quickly - Rodgers/Brees/Brady are the only QBs I'd consider taking over top end RBs.
  13. I'm the other way around - I'd much rather look for effective RBs in the mid rounds and get a QB early.
  14. Nice tune-up game for Tennessee prior to the Florida game. Hopefully we'll jump out to a big lead early and keeping piling on. And then hopefully Florida will lose at A&M.
  15. I've not heard that on the local end and I'd guess if that's the case, it has more to do with Wright being fully healthy and Britt still getting back to full health from the ACL injury. I like Kendall Wright quite a bit, but Britt can be one of the best WRs in the NFL once he gets healthy again.
  16. I'm not sure what to think about Wright at the moment, honestly. He looked good in the preseason, but that's the preseason. Ultimately I think he'll steal a few reps, but I think he'll be our 4th option behind Britt/Cook/Nate. By next year I think there's a good chance he jumps Nate and maybe even Cook, but for now I think Britt and Cook are bigger reasons for Nate's numbers to drop than Wright. Yeah, the first 4 games are utterly brutal but the schedule as a whole is why I'm pessimistic on the Titans making the playoffs. Talent-wise, I think we're as good or better than the team that won 9 games last year, but the schedule will nullify a lot of that improvement. I'm expecting about an 8 win season, with the potential for a few things to go our way and win 9 or a few things to go against us and win 7. I think we could see a breakout season next year with Locker having a full season as the starter and CJ, Britt, Cook, Wright, ATV, McCourty, etc having an extra year to get better. I'm starting to really like this coaching staff, too.
  17. I doubt it for two reasons: Kenny Britt and Jared Cook. Britt will be the #1 guy again when he gets back from suspension/injury and Cook may well be the 2nd option the majority of the season. I think early in the year while Britt is suspended/recovering, Nate will be the #1/2 target along with Cook, so I think he can post some pretty good numbers early on. But as the season goes along, I think his touches will drop as Britt and Cook get more. He'll still be a nice deep receiver, but won't be relied on nearly as much as he was last year (ideally).
  18. Not feeling good about Tennessee's first four games. I'll be pretty thrilled if we can go 2-2 in those 4. Looking forward to which CJ we get this year too - hopefully the one from 2010 instead of the one from 2011.
  19. Alabama is kind of on a level of its own, but the top end of the SEC West (Bama/LSU/Ark/maybe even Auburn) is really good. The SEC East, on the other hand, is pretty weak - Tennessee/Georgia/S Carolina/Missouri are probably top 15-25 teams and Florida could be in that group or it could be awful.
  20. Really good game by Tennessee tonight. The defense was pretty bad early on, but it seemed to settle in and consistently got pressure on Glennon, forcing him into 3 picks (4 actually, but the last one was a desperation toss into the end zone at the end). Cordarrelle Patterson is an absolute freak - big, fast, and had a huge half in his first FBS game. If he can play well from the start of the year, I feel a lot better about this team. The running game was also huge - 194 rushing yards is pretty amazing after averaging 90 yards/game last year. If we can run the ball consistently (100 yards/game would be great) and keep the Bray/Hunter/CP trio healthy, we could be better than the 8 wins I predicted.
  21. At that point, the defense just has to make a stop. I can understand the argument that it's unfair to expect the defense to stop an offense from moving 30-40 yards in this pass-happy environment, but the vast majority of the time with the new kickoff rules, teams would start from their own 25. If the defense can't stop a team from driving 75 yards, they shouldn't win the game anyway.
  22. What would be the problem with keeping the sudden death OT format as it is, but eliminating field goals from it? The times I've had this debate, most people had a problem with teams winning the toss, driving 30-40 yards, kicking a field goal and winning. This way, with the new kickoff rules, teams would have to drive 75 yards most of the time to win on the opening possession. It would keep the intensity of knowing that any missed play could end the game, while also evening up the odds for those who don't like the coin flip playing a major part. And if you don't like completely eliminating field goals, maybe only allow them inside the red zone or something. That would still force considerable drives to win games.
  23. Whether Dooley ultimately turns out to be a good hire or a bad hire, I'm glad Lane bolted when he did. I don't think I'd have felt very good winning with him at the helm.
  24. Haha, at least I didn't overpay for him, I guess.
  25. There's 10 in the league. I wasn't able to connect to ESPN's servers for the draft and a buddy of mine was watching the autopicks for me - he said my team literally did not bid more than $1-2 for any player, it was amazing. I've made a few moves and this is my current roster - not sure if it's better or worse, but at least it has upside: QB Smith Fitzpatrick (hoping he has another big start and I can trade him) HB Rashad Jennings Tate Hillis Benson Ryan Williams Mendenhall WR Titus Young Greg Little Mike Williams (TB) Blackmon TE Daniels Martellus Bennett K/D/ST Bryant Bills
